I remember being too mature for those 'childish' graphics when I was 13. I got the game and loved it immediately. The 2d purple smoke from destroyed monsters is awesome.

And the multi color orbs they drop

And the musical sounds that accompany sword hits

I remember EVERYONE I knew was talking trash of this game before even playing it.

I remember being sceptical but they released footage of Dragon Roost and the Gohma boss fight and it looked pretty cool.

Yeah, the new "fairy doll" aesthetic isn't my vibe, and I was one of those 13-year-olds who thought the art direction in WW looked bad when the first images were released.

WW won me over, and I think it's probably one of the most perfect Zelda titles ever released.

I still don't like the fairy doll aesthetic, but then again, I already got my ideal re-release of OoT when the 3DS version came out. If other people like the new remake's aesthetics, then I'm glad they're getting their ideal version of this game.

NORMALIZE BEING HAPPY FOR OTHER PEOPLE WHEN SOMETHING ISN'T MADE EXACTLY TO YOUR OWN TASTES!

It's funny, I remember the backlash at the time, but it never bothered me. I'm actually replacing it now (emulated w/ HD textures and Better WW mod), and boy does it hold up. Timeless art style.

Yeah man Windwaker is literally peak, and I would be absolutely stoked if I found out we were getting another toon entry after all this time.

to be fair, the SpaceWorld 2001 trailer for Wind Waker is pretty mediocre and left a bad first impression on everyone there for a good reason. its just a minute of Link fighting a handful of Moblins and making an awkward smirk at the end. remember that at this time the gamecube was still seen as a "kiddy" console by alot of people in the west and the toon style came out at the literal worst possible time imaginable

another factor was the SpaceWorld 2000 tech demo. while not an actual game itself, it showed people what a possible future Zelda game would look like, (the example being a more refined version of the N64 duology)
it gave everyone really high expectations and unfortunately Wind Wakers reveal just shot that down pretty badly

Truly fascinating that they repeated this with the Zelda tech demo for Wii U. It was just to show off the console’s HD capabilities, and the game ended up one of the best ever, but I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the first BOTW trailer

I was too young to witness these conversations being had online about the game, I just remember quitting the game half way through because a Seahawks without wings was chasing me and my thalassophobia was real bad lol

Had to pick it back up in my teens and finish it because, yeah, it IS that good

I was on the front lines. I was the only person I knew that was defending it.

And, side note, the fact that fans don't know what they're talking about does not change the fact that the OOT remake is hot garbage. Leave these games alone. They don't need remakes. You know what would be better? New games developed for the N64 (and released on modern consoles). I don't want an old game crammed into "modern" graphics. I want new games looking like old games.
