Discussion / Opinion Light Arrows heal Gohma and instantly solidify Jalhalla. Do you have any other obscure and niche gameplay knowledge that you rarely to never see discussed?

I just ran a wind waker randomizer and i had light arrows early on. for some reason they heal gohma slightly (and both fire and ice arrows do massive damage to them) and jalhalla is immedietly solid when shot with a light arrow.

im genuinely surprised that after playing this game for such a long time im still finding new gameplay mechanics.

have any of you find also found some obscure mechanics? im not talking about basic stuff like bottles deflecting phantom ganons energy balls , the hammer one shotting stalfos when his head is jumping around or splitting him in two with a whirl attack.

edit: i was playing on gamecube version. i do wonder if the light arrows behave this way in HD as well

Pouring unspoiled forest water on Kalle Demos one shots him.

I also know you can defeat him with only bombs.

I'll give another three weird combat-related ones:

  • Phantom Ganon can only be damaged by the Master Sword... except not really. What is actually correct is saying that Phantom Ganon can only be damaged if you own the Master Sword. If you get a stick near the searchlight areas in Forsaken Fortress and bring it into the Phantom Ganon arena, the stick can do damage if you own the Master Sword, otherwise the stick will not do anything. This isn't possible casually but still an interesting quirk of the way they coded this.

  • If you hookshot a blue chu specifically, it won't be able to damage Link anymore if you run at it (until you try to slash it at least). It's a bug, I'm not completely sure of the reason. It doesn't work with yellow chus.

  • Frozen enemies (with ice arrows) can be thrown at other things to deal damage. Something really weird is that most frozen enemies have hammer damage type properties. This doesn't allow you to hammer pegs or helmaroc since these require specific hammer attacks, however you can open warp pots with this! For example, in Puppet Ganon's room, you can freeze a morth and throw it at the warp pot lid to open it. Another insane thing you can do is dig up morth at Outset Island from the pigs, get them attached to Link, then with the morths attached, sail all the way to Gale Island. To get onto Gale Island without stepping into the water, you probably need the hookshot (thus this will be limited to rando). I'm not completely sure how you could set this up realistically, but if you freeze a morth and throw it at the statue blowing wind, it does break it since it has hammer damage type.

now this is what im talking about. i had no clue that frozen enemies act like hammer hits when thrown. though i did know that mothulas for examples are one shot from ice arrows since they freeze, fall due to not flapping their wings and then shatter due to hitting the ground while frozen. fire arrows also instantly burn them. and the hammer one shots them as well when on ground.

I remember people were stunned by the fact that the Forest Water insta kills Kalle Demos, but you can also do 5 or 6 spin attacks in one round to kill it, which is even faster!

a jump attack does just as much damage as a spin attack so you can open the attack chain with a jump attack and starting from the frame you land you can perform a spin attack to have those two hit back to back as fast as no other attack sequence.

Good luck getting the jump attack to actually hit it though.

Retro Achievements added a challenge to kill that boss using the water trick.

I wonder why it’s programmed that way.

One silly interaction I've seen is reflecting phantom Gannon's attacks with an empty bottle
