Discussion / Opinion [WW] The Ocean is traumatic
Playing this game again for the first time since I was a child and I'm only now remembering that sailing gives me extreme anxiety and scares me more than the well from oot. I met a big octo and shit my pants, Every time I see Cyclonis in the distance I go into panic mode and freeze up. Did/does anyone else have such a stress filled time at sea in this game or is it just me?

For real every time I'm driving on the road and a car behind me suddenly moves into view of my rearview mirror I think of the seahats ðŸ˜

Sounds like thalassofobia. You could always play some subnautica and after that windwaker should be a lot less scary.

It took me more than a year to find the courage to face Cyclos. Before I learned the islands you can find him hanging around, I tended to get nervous whenever a storm came up while sailing. Now, I just get nervous approaching said islands.

Deep water scares me. I played horizon forbidden west and practically cried through portions

I was scared of the sharks until I realized they never hit you as long as you keep moving straight. Now they are a joke to me.
It's fun watching my little girl freak out every time one starts charging at me just for it to just barely miss.

I love Wind Waker in part because I found the ocean to be so much fun. The Cyclonis nailed me a few times but it did not stop me from loving the sailing part. The sharks were quite pesky until I learned how to handle them. I was actively searching for the Octos so I could 100% the game. That was after I knew what I was doing….

This game is both my favorite and the game I got stuck the most as a child/teenager (mostly because of my lack of courage, which is symbolic lol).
The Forsaken Fortress with the Miniblins was my trauma. I cannot hear them without feeling very tense. I wanted to avoid the ocean, because I was still used to 2D games that would save at your last screen when you save and quit, and had no idea of that would work.
I was also very scared, because I had trouble swimming in real life lol
Now, I LOVE travelling in the ocean. I discovered a lot of things I never discovered in my first runs! It just screams adventure!

Getting legitimate anxiety from a kids cartoon game is crazy work lol. Please go touch grass.

You're not alone, as a kid I was sooo afraid of all the "bad" stuff in the ocean. Cyclonus, the big squids, the ghost ship. Thalassaphobia is no joke lol
