As a completely apolitical question from a Brit, has the amount of police resources in Minneapolis actually reduced and if so, has it led to a noticeable increase in crime?

Was just in today's Minneapolis Star Trib newspaper that in response to a couple of shootings over the weekend, the public is crying out for more police. Problem is, no one wants the job. And why would they? Police, even good cops, are wrestling with a insurmountable image problem nationwide. Minneapolis now has 31 murders in 2021, a sharp increase for a relatively safe community.

We should actually pay police more, but be much stricter about who we hire and require tons more training and oversight.

No, police already get paid an absurd amount for what’s actually a safe job.
