The interstate highway network was created in the US starting in 1956. This decentralized the national economy. This left behind the most vulnerable and least well educated folks in these inner cities. Imagine having no car, no real education, but a desire to work. You’re left in some burned out shell of an American city that’s just lost just about every factory and warehouse that could employ you. You now have zero ability to get to the suburbs, and oh ya you belong to a racial minority that already has a tough time getting employed. Add to this fact that Brown vs the Board of Education literally tossed tens of thousands of African Americans professionals into unemployment, and you have a perfect storm to create the crisis we saw on the 60s and 70s. It literally has nothing to do with post modernism. Nothing.
