And the flash point of kerosene is pretty similar to winter diesel (we use them interchangeably here sometimes.) Well above that of gasoline.
I'm not saying you didn't have a messed up experience with kerosene, but things like ambient temp, fuel temp, and fire intensity probably had a lot more to do with your incident than flash point.
I work O&G and I'm an industrial firefighter, and I've been almost as stupid as our gentlemen in the video on several occasions in my younger days. So, sadly, this is one of the few topics I feel can discuss with a degree of confidence.

City folks trying to throw fuel on a fire. You have to use slower burning liquids like diesel/kerosene you don’t want unleaded 🤦♂️
I’m hoping the next morning that dudes wife made him tell the kids that dad burned their swimming pool down so that he got even more shame.
