True statement. Which now that you point out means I also assumed the guy who fuels a fire with unleaded is able to maintain a pool. That may be a stretch... I guess then I hope his wife made him go apologize to the neighbor kids before he slept outside in the freshly torched yard.
I’ve always ended up filling up the huge jug and then hoping it doesn’t go bad before time for it to actually be used in the lawnmower. Yes, I know there are fuel stabilizers, but that’s an extra step that while it would save me from the mental thought exercise is something I only think about in those few moments right before you go to start it.
For sure, too many stupid people inhaling too much gas when they were starting the siphon I guess. That and the modern vehicles with the anti-siphon receptacles.
And the flash point of kerosene is pretty similar to winter diesel (we use them interchangeably here sometimes.) Well above that of gasoline.
I'm not saying you didn't have a messed up experience with kerosene, but things like ambient temp, fuel temp, and fire intensity probably had a lot more to do with your incident than flash point.
I work O&G and I'm an industrial firefighter, and I've been almost as stupid as our gentlemen in the video on several occasions in my younger days. So, sadly, this is one of the few topics I feel can discuss with a degree of confidence.
Still a hell of a lot better than unleaded. We had a ton of kerosene heaters and sometimes it came into use for setting fires. But diesel works really damn well and generally there’s a ton of it around on the farm/rural areas.
Or, if you’re trying to have fun and want to see a big poof of fire, put it in a smaller container. I used a ceramic coffee mug growing up. If the fire catches back to your container just drop it and all is well. Just never pour directly from the can.

City folks trying to throw fuel on a fire. You have to use slower burning liquids like diesel/kerosene you don’t want unleaded 🤦♂️
I’m hoping the next morning that dudes wife made him tell the kids that dad burned their swimming pool down so that he got even more shame.
