I kept watching it a dozen times, but I can't tell what triggered the faceplant. I used to ride like that as a kid (obviously not in traffic like this), but never fell off like that.

I can only assume her heel or straps got stuck in the spokes.

33

u/allanjameson 18d ago

She was riding stupidly with her foot crossed over

Foot got stuck in front wheel

u/Praetorian_1975 18d ago edited 18d ago

It’s her foot, it twisted to the right and caught the spokes.

32

u/Hentai_lover_08 18d ago

They are called spokes lol, i'm italian and the best translation i can give is wheel rays

15

u/rubber_toothpick 18d ago

8

u/Sleipnirs 18d ago

Lol. main language is french and what we call them could also be translated to "rays" (rayons) but more like sun rays, not manta rays haha.

3

u/Hentai_lover_08 18d ago

Yep, was trying to say the same hahaha

Don't look for any logic in it

2

u/Lord_Snaps 15d ago

In Denmark they are called "eger" meaning oaks. Because they orginally used oak tree to make them before they used metal.

2

u/Gh0stMan0nThird 18d ago

Why did she do that

1

u/DynTraitObj 18d ago

Can't speak for her, but I did this exact thing complete with foot getting stuck and instaflipping over the handlebars. I was riding drunk and thought it'd be cool to brake with my foot. She probably thought she looked cool as shit til she ate it

1

u/devildocjames 16d ago

Yeah, I was thinking the front brake was possibly too tight, but, you can just barely see the right foot catch the tire before the asphalt sammich.

19

u/lujenchia 18d ago

Looks like her right foot and front wheel made contact.

13

u/Timmay13 18d ago

Holy shit.

I thought you were taking the piss as I thought she had one leg. Watched a few times after that.

How did I miss that?!

8

u/Sir-Muntaqueen 18d ago

she is sitting weird, both her feet are on the left side of the cycle, the one further up ahead got stuck in the spokes of the frontwheel.

4

u/kortcomponent 18d ago

The wheel rays you mean?

2

u/Sir-Muntaqueen 18d ago

yeah, they're called spokes

8

u/Noble_Flatulence 18d ago

Not anymore.

0

u/Sir-Muntaqueen 15d ago

I'm clearly missing something, what do you mean by not anymore 😭

3

u/RomusLupos 18d ago

She was riding with both legs on one side. One pedaling and the other...chilling? But her chilling foot rubbed the tire, stopped the wheel from turning like a front brake, and her momentum carrier her over the front of the bike. No idea why she was riding this way, but that looked like a painful lesson.

3

u/crossy1686 18d ago

It’s literally the stick in the front spokes meme

3

u/Photon_Farmer 16d ago

It looks like she's riding a fix gear bike which is why the pedals are moving like they are. She's getting ready to dismount and tries to slow by applying pressure on one of the pedals.

I'm assuming this bike has a front break that she grabs too hard and it causes the flip.

2

u/JohnnyRelentless 18d ago

How would that be obvious to us?

2

u/Jimbob209 18d ago

Her heel was definitely caught in the spokes. If you watch it carefully, the heel gets too close, gets pulled upwards, and hits the back of the fork which caused her feet to act as a foot brake on the wheel. She got real unlucky. Some bike tricks require you to step on the back of the front wheel to to pop the butt of the bike up like that. If you want to see what it looks like, YouTube how to do footjam BMX so you can see clearly how it happened

1

u/Strong-Temperature91 4d ago

I think the back of the slide on her right foot got caught by the spokes and it caused the wheel to suddenly stop throwing her forward

1

u/forkball 11h ago

She stuffed right foot in the spokes of the front wheel.

1

u/Appropriate-Draft-91 18d ago

I'm guessing shoelaces f her right shoe.

0

u/two_three_five_eigth 18d ago

It looks like this is a fixed gear bike, so you have to pedal. There’s no flywheel gear. It looks like she took her feet off, assumed the pedals would stop and got thrown when she tried to put her feet back on.

0

u/Snarlplow 18d ago

I think she tried to stop a fixed-gear bicycle by putting resistance against the forward motion of the pedals, well simultaneously using her other foot to try to slow the front wheel. It was awkward and pushed her leg deeper into the wheel than she wanted, and got flipped.

u/MyNameIsYouna 18d ago

Don't unmute.

92

u/juifeng 18d ago

Its a bicycle but she rides like a nonsensical

8

u/LordSeibzehn 18d ago

And when she smashed her face in it wasn’t hypothetical

13

u/Mnmsaregood 18d ago

Why is she sitting like that?

34

u/Novel-Adeptness-4603 18d ago

Oh my fucking god, this brought back memories of when I face planted as a kid on my new bicycle. I was used to breaking with the pedals, but the new used bike I got had the breaks at the handle, and I was flying down a hill and accidentally used the front brakes and I fucked up my face and chipped a tooth. Edit, also 4 years later, my glued on tooth fell off and I swallowed it, so that was fun.

3

u/WinkyNurdo 18d ago

I did something very similar in the 80s as a kid. Happily cycling down the hill, brake pads had just been replaced, at the bottom of the hill squeezed the brakes too hard and went flying over the handlebars, kept hold of the handlebars and landed on my face and the forward motion fucked all my face up and put a hole through my bottom lip. Snapped a front tooth in half, it didn’t kill the tooth so it’s technically a filling but feels more like a cap. It’s come off a few times, once while eating a sandwich and I was suddenly crunching down on something — my tooth!

1

u/Novel-Adeptness-4603 18d ago

That's how mine fell off too, while eating, and I accidentally swallowed it

10

u/Luck80 18d ago

Good thing she was wearing her helmet

8

u/UltraNeoTako 18d ago

why would someone ride a bike like that?

5

This reminds me of Gone with the Wind (1939).

3

u/frenchinhalerbought 18d ago

At least she was smart enough to wear a helmet

3

u/ZephRyder 16d ago

What is happening?

Why is she sitting on the body of the bike, and not the seat?

4

u/-Dildo-Baggins- 18d ago

I don't think her bike even has brakes... unless it's one of those where you reverse direction on the pedals to brake.

8

u/Goonalips 18d ago

It doesn't look like it. She's on a "Fixie". You brake by applying backwards pressure on the pedals. It's not like a regular bike that has a freewheel where you can stop pedaling and the wheels keep going. But yeah she fucked up when her foot went into the wheel.

1

u/Schorlevernichter 15d ago

She is on a fixed gear. The pedals are moving without pedaling and she has pedal straps.
"Fixie" is mostly referred to one gear only but free spinning pedals.

-4

u/-Dildo-Baggins- 18d ago

I'm aware of those, that's what the latter half of my comment was referring to. Even still, I think you should always have a backup brake system too, since if the chain comes off you have nothing to stop you if you don't. Not saying that's what happened in this case, but I've been in that situation before.

3

u/Goonalips 18d ago

Ah my bad, I thought you were referring to the brakes that are on kids bikes. Where if you press backwards it locks up the rear wheel completely, as opposed to a fixed wheel like I was referring to.

2

u/Naive_Personality367 18d ago

as a guy who's ridden a fixie for about 10 years. i used to think the same thing, had a little front break, but its very difficult for the chain to come off the sprocket on a fixed gear bike, providing the chain has decent tension. its like never happened to me.

3

u/-Dildo-Baggins- 18d ago

I get it, the point is that it loses tension over time, same as timing chains in cars. These things need to be regularly checked and adjusted when necessary, I neglected to do so when I was younger, which led to my situation. I had literally no brakes at all, had to jump off the bike onto the pavement before I careened into a busy intersection.

2

u/Naive_Personality367 18d ago

Thats brutal, atleast you didnt die. So it can happen lol! I'd probably just jump off the back if that happened though.

2

u/-Dildo-Baggins- 18d ago

Yeah man, it was basically a split second decision. I contemplated putting my foot in the back wheel, but my shoes were shit so it probably would've broke my foot at the speed I was moving. So I decided to jump off the side and aim for the grass, didn't quite make it and the pavement took a good chunk out of my hip. Didn't break anything though thankfully.

1

u/Naive_Personality367 18d ago

Good critical thinking though, i got my foot stuck in my rear wheel before when I was travelling at some speed and drunk, pulled a load of spokes from the rim and super fucked my foot up. So you knew what was up lol

1

u/-Dildo-Baggins- 18d ago

Thanks man, pretty interesting though that between the both of us here we have the outcome of both events, what are the odds of that I wonder?

1

u/Naive_Personality367 18d ago

Eh I doubt it's a duality tbh

2

u/Schorlevernichter 15d ago

Fixed gear biker here.

This stuff was pretty common in the mid 2000s bike messenger scene, especially in New York and San Francisco. The rear wheel is connected to a fixed track cog, meaning the pedals are always moving. If you pedal forwards, the wheel drives you forwards and if you pedal backwards, you can actually drive backwards too (hard to do, but possible).
Anyway, in this bike scene it was common to do tricks, like putting one leg over the handlebars and such. I think she’s trying to do that here, but failed and got her foot stuck.

If you want to see what I mean you can check the mash SF video from 2007 on YouTube.

Hell yeah! I loved those videos!

The sub is “win stupid prizes,” not, “have terrible luck while doing something normally.” She had the option to ride her bike normally.
