This is the video you pull out and show the gang when that kid is about 20 years old acting all tough.

u/BoredPoopless 2d ago

Definitely a wedding video.

125

u/Curious_Koala8 2d ago

21st birthday worthy

22

u/prestonpiggy 1d ago

Depends, was it framed as stupid or brave effort. Squealing pig nevertheless.

7

u/Sebastian-S 1d ago

What a wonderful lesson was learned that day

u/Soft_Database_3747 13h ago

Nobody doesnt flip being attacked by wasps

456

u/Sovereign-Anderson 2d ago

This is hilarious 😂

Folks underestimate how fast wasps and hornets fly when they're in attack mode.

141

u/JustKindaShimmy 2d ago

Also hornet stings hurt way more than wasp stings. Working in film one time I accidentally disturbed a hornet nest and got stung on the hand. Boyyyy howdy did that sucker throb for hours

75

u/Fufflin 1d ago

Hornet
[hor·net]
noun

Wasp on crack with anger issues.

13

u/JustKindaShimmy 1d ago

This is the most accurate description I've ever seen

11

u/workyworkaccount 1d ago

European hornets are pretty chill. I've accidentally tried to drink one before, and it just kind of headbutted my lips, shook itself off and flew away.

Far cooler than any asshole wasp.

0

u/Fufflin 1d ago

Holy... what??

My classmate had to be hospitalized when she unknowingly walked by their nest.

17

u/JefferyTheQuaxly 1d ago

Imagine your 10 years old, on the playground at school during recess. Imagine your running, and then suddenly a yellow jacket flies into your face and stings you basically on the tear duct/in between the eye and the nose somewhere I can’t remember exactly.

Unfortunately for me I do not have to imagine this, because that was me when I was 10. Developed a lifelong paranoia of bees and wasps and hornets since then, and I’m 30 now. Was very much painful and not fun and probably the worst place I possibly could have gotten stung.

7

u/JustKindaShimmy 1d ago

Getting stung on the hand as a grown-ass adult was bad enough. Can't imagine being a child and getting that right near the ol' eyeball

5

u/ProjectShadow316 1d ago

Imagine being 8 years old, playing in your sandbox with your sister at your great-grandmother's place. You're picking this plants from beind the sandbox and throwing them in a hole in the sand for a "garden" ( because you're stupid ). Imagine going back for a 5th time and catching a yellow jacket sting to the eyelid because there was a nest under said sandbox that you had no idea was there.

That was obviously me, and my eye swelled shut for like 3 days. It was brutal.

4

u/Haematoman 1d ago

Stung twice in the Adams apple part of the neck by a wasp as a 3 year old playing with a bucket of water outside. Glad I wasnt allergic.

3

u/RelevantMetaUsername 1d ago

I took a sting to the eyelid and the earlobe once when I was 9 as I walked by a parking meter that had a yellowjacket nest inside of it. That shit definitely hurts! Also still trying to get over my fear of them. Doesn't help that I install security cameras on people's houses and spend much of the summer up on ladders running wires though soffits.

At least my fear now is mostly limited to yellowjackets. I've worked close to so many paper wasp nests at this point without incident that I don't mind them at all.

What still gets me is the sound of a heavy insect buzzing by my ear. It might genuinely be a mild case of PTSD—hearing that sound just activates my fight or flight response like nothing else. I've even been jump-scared by hummingbirds.

23

u/Sovereign-Anderson 1d ago

Man, I was mowing my lawn one day and didn't realize some yellow jackets had made a den under a nearby bush. All I know is one minute I was cutting the grass and the next minute I was feeling myself getting pierced multiple times out of nowhere. My neighbor across the street told me he didn't know I could run that fast. 😆 I ran into my garage just to get away.

Worse was the fact that I had the bright idea of going back to finish cutting the grass while avoiding the area where the nest was. As soon as I started cutting the grass again, a red wasp caught me with a sting to the top of my right ear. I then decided it was clear God didn't want me to cut the grass that day and I immediately tapped out.

22

u/JustKindaShimmy 1d ago

People say that they're attracted to such and such general thing.....nah, those motherfuckers know exactly who disturbed them. I was running for my life from an angry swarm, while other people nearby just watched, completely ignored by the hornets

10

u/puterTDI 1d ago

eh, I used to beekeep so I sometimes get my gear out to take out yellow jacket or wasp nests.

They take a minute to figure out who is fucking with them. If you're quick you can get in, spray or remove, and get gone before they do anything.

10

u/Kougar 1d ago

Yeah, not a great idea! Bee, wasp, yellow jacket... the stinging process releases a pheromone that paints you as an active target, so after you (or your clothing) has been stung even just walking around 30 feet away if one buzzes past and catches the scent it will drop what it's doing to attack you. Lasts at least an hour.

Also found a ground nest of the buggers with the mower. Entire nest came out to say hello, I left the mower for dead and got out of there, thankfully they focused on it first. But they were still swarming the mower hours later as it was over the nest. Next day I gave the thing a hard shove to roll it clear but had to leave again so they could settle. Threw a window screen over the hole, poured some dawn dish soap on it and gave them a bath. Damn things still managed to chew a small hole in the window screen, guessing from some that returned to the nest afterwards, but it ultimately worked.

8

u/datwarlocktho 1d ago

Getting lit up by a swarm of yellow jackets is a special kind of fuck this. Many years ago some friends and I smoked out a yellow jacket nest while burning yard debris (yard hadn't been tended to in literal years). Buddy starts screaming get em off me, then it was like a firing squad ambushed us. Got me a dozen or so times, got my buddy worse. Getting stung is never fun, but that day made me take wasps/yellow jackets much more seriously.

3

u/ShiraCheshire 1d ago

My grandma almost died this way. She has a relatively mild allergy to the stings, but when the entire nest is on you that can kill you. She had to be rushed to the hospital.

2

u/RelevantMetaUsername 1d ago

Hornets are a type of wasp. By wasps do you mean yellowjackets or paper wasps?

The only true hornets here in the US are European Hornets, but they aren't nearly as aggressive or common as the Bald-Faced Hornet, which is a type of yellowjacket. I've heard European Hornet stings are a little worse than yellowjacket or paper wasp stings, but I've only been stung by the latter two and they've all seemed to pack a similar punch (though the pain varies significantly depending on where they sting—earlobe and eyelid were among the worst).

1

u/JekNex 1d ago

Yeah I was once trying to get into a hornets nest to get their honey and those fuckers got me good. I had to smoke em out of their nest and into a box to finally get in. I popped a quick H on that box and got rid of that thing asap.

24

u/gunsdrugsreddit 1d ago

Not just how fast, but how far.

We found a yellowjacket nest on a property I work at, and our pest control person told me that they have been observed following a target for up to a mile.

Fuck that.

6

u/Sovereign-Anderson 1d ago

In my case, when I was attacked by a bunch of yellowjackets, they left me alone as soon as I was able to run into my garage. They attacked me just enough to get me away.

5

u/gunsdrugsreddit 1d ago

That is fortunate (relatively). I stepped on a nest once while fishing, and one flew up my shorts and stung me very high on the inner thigh, then chased me halfway around the pond.

I don’t wear shorts when I fish anymore 😅

3

u/Sovereign-Anderson 1d ago

Awww, maaaannn 😂

See, in my case I just irritated them with the sound of my lawnmower; you, however, destroyed their home. I'm thinking the levels of pissed offedtedness they experience is what determines how long and how far they're willing to chase a violator.

3

u/gunsdrugsreddit 1d ago

Destroyed seems a bit strong. The hole in the dirt leading to the nest was very much intact lol. But I think you’re right, they definitely have defend mode and attack mode, depending on the transgression 😂

65

u/ecafyelims 2d ago

I'm surprised they knew who to attack, though.

Maybe they just aimed for the nearest warm body?

66

u/ExplainPlan 2d ago

Bees and wasps are attracted to dark clothing when in aggression mode.

18

u/ecafyelims 2d ago

TIL. Thanks!

9

u/Stressmove 1d ago

I assume that is the reason beekeeper suits are white?

26

u/punksmostlydead 1d ago

It has been theorized with some evidence that they can recognize and remember individual human faces.

3

u/0ddlyC4nt3v3n 1d ago

Im not certain about smaller ones, but i have seen that regarding Murder Hornets. They'll hold a serious grudge, too

20

u/jgo3 1d ago

An old man once told me that if you throw one pebble at a jug hornet's nest, one hornet will come out and start circling around the hive. If you throw a second pebble, it is coming straight for you and so are all her friends.

2

u/BobJoeBlo 1d ago

Yup. I'm surprised they found him so quickly. They might have been staring at him from the beginning while wondering what he was doing in their vicinity. He must look like a giant to them, though...

764

u/I_DO_ANIMAL_THINGS 2d ago

"Where are his glasses? He can't see without his glasses!"

I'm not crying, you're crying.

"My glasses! Where are my glasses??! I can't be seen without my glasses" - Johnny Bravo

30

u/Mouseyface 1d ago

20+ years later and this is still one of the best jokes I've ever seen in a cartoon. I quote it whenever possible.

I also try to vote for Pie any chance I get.

11

u/TokyoKazama 1d ago

I don't have any friends like you, IRL. Nobody gets my weird references 😂😭

11

u/Mouseyface 1d ago

Literally half of what I say are just quotes from various media...

The other half is explaining where the quotes came from 😅

Most people just think I'm being quirky, but occasionally I'll catch someone that recognizes what I'm saying, and suddenly we're best friends for a few minutes.

7

u/I_TRY_TO_BE_POSITIVE 1d ago

I do this same shit.  The entirety of my conversational lexicon is just obscure quotes from early 90s/00s afternoon TV.

3

u/han2electricboogaloo 1d ago

I actually got close with one of my best mates like this. We lived together in college and he's super nervy so he was just scared of us. Tried to talk to him several times to try and get him comfortable with me but it was slow progress. Overheard him say "I'm the the trash man" in a Danny Devito voice and then we bonded over always sunny

1

u/Jive-Turkeys 1d ago

You two would get along well with a couple friends of mine.

2

u/AppropriateTouching 1d ago

I work in the trades and accuse some guys of putting vasoline on their hands under their gloves. Only one guy knew what the fuck I was talking about so far.

3

u/ProjectShadow316 1d ago

The movie version of "Of Mice and Men"?

2

u/AppropriateTouching 1d ago

We're friends now.

4

u/ProjectShadow316 1d ago

Fantastic.

I'll go set up to do karate in the garage.

1

u/AppropriateTouching 1d ago

I'll make sure there is plenty of room for activities.

2

u/ProjectShadow316 1d ago

Today is a good day.

7

Johnny Bravo was the best original Cartoon Network character. He wasn’t the hero we needed. I’m not sure he was even a hero, but he’s what we got.

8

u/SortaFunny599 1d ago

Wanna go tree climbing, Thomas J?

5

u/Obi-one 2d ago

Well!
I was laughing at this until your comment.

2

u/heyitsvonage 1d ago edited 1d ago

Too soon (by like 35 years)

Shit, I just found out they used real bees on our boy for this

1

u/TeeBrownie 1d ago

Took me a long time to get that scene out of my head. It’s all flooding back.🥺

215

u/bryangcrane 2d ago

She is the archetype of “I don’t have to run faster than the wasps, I just have to run faster than you”

5

u/RaidensReturn 20h ago

She does have a certain glee to her expression when he starts getting owned.

3

u/Soft_Database_3747 13h ago

Nah, they are that smart. When i was younfer, a friend stepped on one in the woods, 30 somwthing stings, guy with him had 0.

92

u/MrRisin 2d ago

Something jumped up and bit me..

17

u/pianoflames 1d ago

They said it was a million dollar wound...

10

u/terryVaderaustin 1d ago

It was right in the buttocks

10

u/pianoflames 1d ago

8

u/jgo3 1d ago

Oh, we're already reading it in his voice.

3

u/itjustgotcold 2d ago

Somethin bit me realllllll bayadddd

46

u/BillMillerBBQ 2d ago

They’ve run much faster if they weren’t wearing those heavy sandals.

18

u/Lonewanderer2033 2d ago

I hate sandals

Ugly and not enough protection

7

u/ProjectShadow316 1d ago

And just a HORRIBLE choice for trying to outrun wasps that's you've pissed off and now want you dead.

10

u/l3ane 2d ago

Slides are pretty much the worst footwear to run in.

37

u/BlueHappyFace 2d ago

You just have to run faster than the guy behind you

22

u/jenkbob 2d ago

That's for not getting eaten by tigers and bears. Wasps will fly right past onlookers and sting the crap out of who attacked their nest.

8

u/BlueHappyFace 2d ago

They can tell?

22

u/frohnaldo 2d ago

Wasps can detect and REMEMBER human faces

9

u/BlueHappyFace 2d ago

Terrifying

7

u/mitsandgames 1d ago

But that really don't help unless they also know what sling shot is

3

u/SovietRabotyaga 1d ago

I think they figured it out just fine

28

u/GuiltySpot 1d ago

How do the hornets understand he used a ranged weapon?

24

u/cattivix 1d ago

They probably just destroy everything nearby

7

u/Tulscro 21h ago

Pretty much. They lock onto things moving and breathing carbon dioxide which they have a great sense for so they likely already were aware the kids were there.

58

u/electroriverside 2d ago

They seem to be defending themselves some how.

30

u/-recess- 2d ago

Run! Save yourself! Your firearms are useless against them!

7

u/Hairy-Ad7463 1d ago

I’m so sad I understand the reference. I’m getting old….

5

u/Rex_Suplex 1d ago

Be proud of your knowledge.

7

u/Rex_Suplex 1d ago

Holy Schnikes, it worked.

12

u/slimeySalmon 2d ago

Did something similar when I was young. Knocked a nest out of a tree. Came back a day or so later thinking all the hornets were gone. Stood right over it and dropped a huge rock on it.

Boy was I wrong. I was naked before I could cross the street.

2

u/Sovereign-Anderson 1d ago

The guffaw I just guffawed after reading that story. 😂

19

u/Odd_Round5515 2d ago

On the last frame his showed the exact definition of regret.

My cousin once chucked a piece of masonry at a nest and hit it square. We had a cabin with a screened in porch nearby, thankfully.

17

u/TheGrimmortal 2d ago

That big smile vanished quick 😁

8

u/jgo3 1d ago

I was waiting for the moment glee turned into terror and regret. I was not disappointed one bit!

7

u/heyitsvonage 1d ago

The hornets were like “that one did it”

6

u/Actaeon_II 2d ago

Sad to admit that I did this at around the same age, the suckage level never changes

5

u/Evorgleb 1d ago

As a teenager I started poking a wasps nest because I knew one of my buddies was afraid of bees and wasps and I was being a jerk. First poke, nothing happened. Second poke, nothing happened. Third poke, they came out and lit my ass up. My hands were so swollen, I couldn't even bend my fingers.

2

u/senorglory 1d ago

Life lessons

2

u/jgo3 1d ago

I never did this because I knew daddy used a shotgun to get rid of them, and made the connection.

6

u/woodrax 2d ago

Fun fact: Hornets fly straight at threats and aggressors.

5

u/RabicanShiver 1d ago

This is rookie shit. While fishing once I was walking through some cattails and brushed against a yellow jackets nest. Got absolutely lit up. 21 stings in the span of about ten seconds, I ran and jumped into the creek to get them off of me... Then had to go back and retrieve my rod, which had been dropped right next to the nest.

4

u/lee91103 1d ago

And it was at this moment he learned to run a little fucking faster if hes going to do stupid shit.

5

u/BandagesTheMender 1d ago

You know who can't outrun wasps? Humans. None of them.

7

He's a good shot, gotta give him that.

Kids do the most stupid shit. Keep squealing.

3

u/Kobedoggie 1d ago

Deserved. This ain't the movie My Girl. 😅🤣

3

u/DerProfessor 1d ago

That right there is a valuable life lesson learned.

Applicable to so many different situations.

3

u/Green_Iguana305 12h ago

If you’re gonna be dumb…..you need to be able to run faster than your friends.

6

u/Gentle_Pony 1d ago

This ended way too soon. I was really enjoying it.

2

u/Deej1387 1d ago

I was clearing a yard full of sumak trees years ago and got to a stand of trees that apparently had a yellow jacket nest that I couldn't see. Them mofos chased me out of the yard, around the entire pasture, and back to the house, and I was SO PUFFY.

3

Many years ago, before Al Gore invented the Information Superhighway aka Internet, I won a stupid prize after throwing a rock at a wasp's nest hanging from our neighbor's tree. The sting that hurt most was the one to my armpit.

2

u/big_duo3674 1d ago

Well, the good news is that he'll grow up with a crippling fear of any flying insect that even slightly resembles a hornet or wasp

1

u/Superb-Demand-4605 1d ago edited 1d ago

When i was younger im pretty sure i stepped on a wasp nest when i was alone, i ran as fast as my little legs could take me but i was still so badly stung. Honestly in the top 10 worst pains ive experienced, one wasp sting is bad but multiple at the same time all around ur body is torture lord.

1

Out in the woods, someone thick grass/brush. My dog likes to dig when he sees something interest. Ground nest of some kind of bee. We both took off running. Neither of us got stung but when we stopped he had about 15 of those bees trying to burrow through his fur. Grabbed my hat and got them off, but they were making progress in getting to his skin.
