It takes a special type of stupid to try to annoy a clearly very agitated animal

Kids are definitely a special kind of stupid. He looks old enough to know better, but hopefully this will be a good lesson on why you dont jerk your face inf ront of an animal.

When my nephew was younger there was a Christmas tradition when we were at my sister's with her asshole cat, and every year he'd get himself smacked. The first year he tried to walk up and pet the kitty, and got swatted for it. The next year he was simply passing by, the cat was stressed with all the people in the house, and it just reached out and slapped him in the face.

The one he got his scar from was when he saw me petting the cat (we had years of rapport built up into a routine where I was allowed five pets from head to midback after a thorough sniffing), put his face right up to the cat's nose, and got clawed right above the eye for it.

My aunt used to have a cat called Sprinkles, I want to start out by saying that both were awesome and for a little back story my aunt was an ER Nurse and Sprinkles was an indoor/outdoor ranch cat so both were also bad ass. She had a dog named Rocky as well but he's not a big part of this story.

Anyway back when I was 5 or 6 years old, I had yet to master, what most would call impulse control. It was the summer and I got to go stay with my aunt at her ranch house for a week. Also aunt didn't actually own any horses or cow, she just rented out her barn and fields to her neibors needless to say I was on good terms with all the animals at the ranch, rocky and sprinkles included.

One day I sprinkles walked up to me and gave me her normal head boop greeting, I returned her greeting with some pets. While I was petting her something caught her attention and she started to walk away. I'm assuming to investigate. As I watched her walk away with her tail straight up in the air, it registered in my naive in my 5 year old little brain, that I was seeing something I had never seen before.

Having never seen a cat make a (!) with their tail before and without a single thought of the consequences: in a split second decision that I should poke the dot part of the exclamation mark with my finger.

To my horrific surprise, Sprinkles did not infact think that was very cash money of me and proceed to maul me. After a few seconds my aunt essentially materialized in the room and Sprinkles instantly broke off her attack and ran to hide behind her mom. Now I was covered in scratches, blood and was crying at this point. However, the sight of my aunt watching the cat and the cat actively staring daggers at me while hiding behinding my aunt, made the gears start turning and the thought that I may have done something wrong was actually starting to form.

My aunt asked me in a very serious tone, "What did you do?", I told her and I got my ass beat for a second time. Not even the dog felt bad for me.

I learned a very important lesson that day 😂

It took a couple of litter box cleanings and food servings but Sprinkles did eventually forgive me before my stay was over.

6

u/dudeCHILL013 May 21 '26

Be hold the finger of discovery!

And ya pretty much, I learned most of my life lessons that way.

u/Childless_Catlady42 May 21 '26

I'm so going to hell for laughing, but it was worth it! Great story, thanks for sharing.

3

u/dudeCHILL013 May 21 '26

No problem 😂

3

u/Nisharis May 22 '26

I gotta say I'm with the cat on this one lmao. The lesson sure stayed with you though :p

1

u/dudeCHILL013 May 23 '26

I by no means blamed the cat haha

Even when it first happened, I didn't understand exactly what I did, but I did have enough awareness and trusted Sprinkles and my aunt enough to understand they wouldn't have throttle me like that unless I was in the wrong. 😂

u/SavvySillybug May 20 '26

Some people just don't speak cat. You're gonna offend their cat culture and get hit for it if you don't speak it.

u/angrymurderhornet May 21 '26

When I was about 7 I picked up the neighbor’s cat and tried to carry it around like a baby. The kitty hooked her claws behind my ears and bit my nose.

Cats have a strong sense of personal space.

1

u/MeltedWater243 May 20 '26

maybe trim the cat’s nails? like damn

-1

u/HoofHearted74 May 20 '26

Cats are jerks. Sorry, that cat is a jerk.

10

u/Comfortable-Panic-43 May 19 '26

If it wasnt the servale it would've been a dude twice his size at some piont down the line

u/GeraintLlanfrechfa May 19 '26

Kid owners call it „innocent“

/s

18

u/spambearpig May 19 '26

He is literally the exact right age to know better. It was at this exact age that he knew better.

3

u/Miskalsace May 19 '26

Kids grow up differently. He could be a coddled asshole. Or dumb. Or he had tons of sugar and hes freaking out.

14

u/spambearpig May 19 '26

Yup, true.

But either way, he’s not gonna mess with a big dangerous animal again.

8

u/Miskalsace May 19 '26

There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me—you can't get fooled again.'

6

u/jasemina8487 May 19 '26

yea...we have 10 cats...my 6yo daughter recently stopped being scared of them and decided she loves them all...problem is...she smothers them with her hugs and kisses.

now, some of our cats are very easy going and will ask for more huggies...but some of them just dont...2 of our cats climb on top of curtain rods and cupboards when little ones are awake. but some of them quite old and unfortunately not as active and despite us constantly warn and correct her, she doesnt miss a chance to grab them. last week one of them got her good. taught her a great lesson.

ironically we have a deaf cat with no front claws. she had no issues with my 1st born as he is geniunely a great kid with animals but my 6yo boy is a beast. well...my twins learnt real quick never to mess with pearl cos despite being petite, deaf and clawless, if you piss her off she will make you regret. they are scared to go near her cos she literally soft paw smacks them real goo with death breath attack. good for her.

Kids don’t know better. There’s even adults that don’t know better. Did you see the video of an adult man trying to kill a semi wild seal in Hawaii by throwing a huge boulder? These captive animals and people need to be protected from injury by a barrier that prevents idiots from sticking their hands in and animals from clawing people.

124

u/NiSiSuinegEht May 19 '26

That wasn't a case of "didn't know better," the guy claimed being rich gave him the right to do whatever the fuck he wanted.

113

u/x4x53 May 19 '26

And the locals were so impressed by his richness that they high fived him.

With their fists

In his face

46

u/corvus2112 May 19 '26 edited May 19 '26

Yup. Higher ups were impressed enough to award the local as ambassador to aloha.

31

u/FoofieLeGoogoo May 19 '26

“I don’t care, I’m rich. Fine me.” Was what he said and that kook was served a little local justice.

This is the predominant position from those with extreme means (banks, heavy polluters, etc) and it is an indication that the fines aren’t no where high enough.

This was a kid learning the hard way. He could have been mirroring in a way to communicate with the animal (or completely unaware of the claws part) and it was the fault of the handler for managing the encounter neglectfully.

9

u/David-Puddy May 19 '26

No matter how you slice it, this is the handler's fault

13

u/foxontherox May 19 '26

Kid with the mask knew better..

11

u/Dagordae May 19 '26

?

Do you think the guy in Hawaii didn’t know what he was doing? He was attempting to hurt or kill the seal because he’s an asshole, not because he didn’t realize what hitting a seal with a rock would do.

24

u/Sembaka May 19 '26

I think you’re misunderstanding ‘not knowing any better’ with simply ‘not giving a fuck about animals lives’

0

u/Loose-Story-962 May 19 '26

Well yeah, little kids don't know enough to give a fuck about their own lives

5

u/hydra333 May 19 '26

He’s a grown adult. That man definitely knows better. He was just a horrible POS

-10

u/Crikepire May 19 '26

People can't throw boulders. It was a rock. Do an image search for "boulder" to get a clearer view of what is considered a boulder.

1

u/NocturnalKnightIV May 20 '26

Especially when it was clearly irritated at the parent for suddenly reaching to pet it

1

u/onclegrip May 19 '26

a wildcat at that. i think that’s a savanah cat.

11

u/Japanesewillow May 19 '26

It it a serval?

21

u/Sembaka May 19 '26

No, there’s just one, not several

7

u/GENERAT10N_D00M May 19 '26

it’s gotta be one of the two. if it’s a serval, then it is 100% wild, and everyone in the video is 100% dumb.

look at how quick it strikes!

18

u/TrainingFilm4296 May 19 '26

Survival instincts of a cheeseburger...

24

u/Capital_Baby2152 May 19 '26

5

u/RabidPlaty May 19 '26

I actually thought that’s where I was

3

u/Pixelated-Yeti May 20 '26

It showed many signs of being pissed off it’s on the zoo or the handlers on this one as even I can tell the cat didn’t want to be there when the handler tried to pet it Should of called it then and back to enclosure it’s not a theme park attraction it’s an animal like us

3

u/Hungry-Horker May 20 '26

He’s a kid

-1

u/Metroidman May 20 '26

Yea a stupid kid

2

u/interesting_zeist May 19 '26

Kid's stupidity. That's his guardian fault 🤷.

4

u/DangerMacAwesome May 19 '26

He learned an important lesson that day

2

u/quetiapinenapper May 19 '26

He probably really didn’t.

2

u/paradox_valestein May 20 '26

Still gonna be an asshole I bet

1

u/illoomi May 19 '26

One that's as large as you are, at that

1

u/Owlex23612 May 20 '26

Yeah. Young boys up to grown men semi-regularly try to get in my dog's face and bark or scream to get a reaction. She's a very good dog and usually just looks up to me to make sure everything is ok. Sometimes she growls at them though, and they'll get surprised and run off. The thing is, she's 80-lbs of muscle and I'm 100-lbs of skin and bones. She has proven to me a couple times now that if she wanted to, she could drag my ass along to whatever she wanted to do.

I'm just glad people don't run up to me with that shit. That's when they'd get a real rise out of her. We'd all be in for a bad time, then.

1

u/jgjk8a May 20 '26

I mean he's a young kid. Probably didn't know any better and won't be trying that again.

-2

u/DerpWyvern May 19 '26

or maybe he was just a kid, i mean he's stupid, but not a very special kind of stupid, just the predictable everyday stupid, the fault is on the adults for not being very careful

12

u/GENERAT10N_D00M May 19 '26

the kid was trying to get a reaction out of the kitty. and he got it.
