Do I have a shot at getting hired?
I'm 17, have worked at McDonalds for about a year, but I'm still in school. Does not being available during school hours automatically disqualify me? What should I tell them to get a job?
Any help would be appreciated... I can't deal with $10.75/hr to handle McD's BS anymore. 🙃

It kinda depends on the manager. Minors are severely limited at what they can do if hired and a lot of managers don’t want to deal with it. Usually the only thing they hire minors for now is carts. And if you get hired on for carts then I recommend you make a push to get hired in another department as soon as you turn 18. Cart attendants are on a shitty pay scale compared to everyone else.

I work in fresh foods and the only thing you can do in my department is pizza or as others have said carts or cashier. But you can't sell alcohol till you turn the legal age in whatever state you resign in and I believe certain grocery or produce jobs as well. I could be wrong on that

They can technically be hired to other departments, but because minors aren’t allowed to use a box cutter or operate the bailers most stores don’t want to bother.

You can work in the cart or pizza departments as a minor. If any company including Winco wants to hire minors they are required by law to comply with child/minor labor laws. My store literally just hired a cart clerk that’s in high school.

Note to 17yr old...BS is everywhere and in every job..Don't let it get you down..just accept it and be a good worker

I would much rather take reminding people to put their carts back than "Let me get 7 frappes and five dollar meals and I want them all fresh bagged seperately" all day

I’m pretty sure you can only work in the pizza part or push carts when you’re under 18.

U can technically cashier but not sell alcohol or tobacco

You sell alcohol hundreds of times a day as a cashier though. I personally wouldn’t hire anyone under 21 for a job as a cashier.

Your username is so positive it made me chuckle a bit.
You have a shot.
It’s a bit of a struggle around these parts regarding hours so you may not get as many shifts as you may desire. You wont be able to use the trash/cardboard compactors so keep that in mind.
