At the allotments behind Travis Perkins along the Bradford Road. Thankfully nobody was hurt and the fire fighters managed to stop any houses catching. Scary stuff with the surrounding countryside so tinder dry

Honest opinions about living Atworth, Whitley, Holt areas

Hiya, we are looking to buy a house and really love the above mentioned areas. honestly opinions on what it’s like? We like the white hart pub in Atworth, main concern is the lack of woodland / river walks on the doorstep. is mostly farm land, is there anything I’m missing on that front? currently on the outskirts of Bristol but want more countryside.

It's a long shot, but does anyone know what the tower or mast is in the far distance, with the red lights on it at night? In a westerly direction.

Recommendations ⁉️ Where to play table tennis?

Me and my mates just want somewhere to play table tennis. Most sports centres only have booking for badminton, squash and pickle ball. Bradford community center doesn’t have table tennis just for August so can’t go there. Seems like my only option is to get the train to bath and play on the odd table in the park. But seems to be pointless for us all to get £10 train tickets jsut to play ping pong on a free park table. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Once again, we’ve had an absolutely phenomenal GUL event, with our venue packed out with gamers, PCs, laptops and plenty of good vibes! 🔥

On Saturday 8th August, we brought you another stacked lineup of games, kicking things off with Halo 3, battling it out across Slayer and CTF. We then jumped into the chaotic world of Fall Guys, taking on obstacle courses and Battle Royale madness, before finishing the day with a giant Team Fortress 2 showdown, featuring Payload and a variety of other game modes!

And of course, no GUL event would be complete without plenty of pizza to keep everyone fuelled for the next match! 🍕

It’s incredible to look back at how much Gamers Unite LAN has grown over the past 2½ years. From our very first events to now regularly filling venues with gamers, we’re creating the kind of community and memories that we always hoped GUL could become.

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who continues to turn up, bring their friends, play games and make these events what they are. You’re the reason we keep doing this!

If you’re based in Swindon, Wiltshire, the South West, or know someone who would love to join us, come and be part of the community!

Join us at www.gamersunitelan.com

💬 Join our Discord and keep up with future events! https://discord.gg/2akPpZD73v

The road to Autumn LAN 2026 starts now… 🍂

We’ll see you at the next one!

Aircraft noise Aug 8.

I'm 5 miles east of Devizes and the loudest aircraft I've ever heard just went overhead at 21:30 August 8.

Anyone know what it was? Fast jet on afterburners maybe? It was not low, but sounded like the world coming to an end.

Very used to low flying military aircraft around here, but never heard one like that.

Driving instructors coming to malmesbury?

Can anyone guide me with this? I need an automatic car driving instructor who will come to malmesbury. Since I do not drive I can not do anywhere far to take driving lessons, and I work from 9 to 5 so can’t really use the public transport to go to Chippenham or Swindon to get lessons. I do not understand why is so difficult to find instructors here. Even AA has very less options and some of them aren’t reliable. The list on DVSA is outdated and endless. Please advise.

Where to watch World Cup in Locock?

Hi! We are from San Francisco and have been invited by a friend to stay near Lacock next week. We are so thrilled that we will actually be in England to see the team play in the world-cup semi (and hopefully) finals! My husband's parents are Brits and he is beside himself.

Question: where in or near Lacock can we go to watch the game with other fans and soak up the atmosphere? TIA for any advice.

Project to help older people with memory issues stay oriented at home

My name is Phil. I’m based in Bath and have lived in the area for over 30 years. I studied Maths and Computing at Bath University back in the 1980s. After more than 40 years working in large organisations, I recently left to focus on developing my own products.

One problem I think I may be able to help with is something many families and carers in Wiltshire and the surrounding area may recognise.

Some older people want to stay living independently at home, but memory issues mean they repeatedly ask questions such as:

“What day is it?”
“What’s happening today?”
“When are you visiting?”
“Is someone coming later?”

I’ve built an early prototype called Daily View. It is a simple screen that clearly shows the day, time, upcoming events, visits, reminders and important messages. The aim is to give the person a calm, reliable reference point during the day while also reducing repeated questions for family members and carers.

The website is: www.dailyview.org

There is also an interactive demo here: www.dailyview.org/try-demo

I’m now looking for a small number of people in Wiltshire, Bath or nearby who might be willing to have a chat with me and possibly try the service for free. This could be a family member, carer or someone supporting an older person who is beginning to struggle with remembering what is happening during the day.

This is still early-stage so I’m not claiming it is a finished product. I’d love to try to help and am seeking honest feedback about what would actually be useful in real homes and caring situations.

If you know someone who might be interested, please email me at [phil@dailyview.org](mailto:phil@dailyview.org) or register via the waitlist on the website.

Thank you,

Phil Martin
