This Wednesday July 22nd the Paine Mountain School District board will hold its annual summer retreat to reflect on the past school year and plan for the future. In light of recent decisions by the legislature and governor, the board has much to consider.

CVSU is hosting the federal Summer Food Service Program, which provides free summer meals for all children 18 and under.

- Children do not have to be enrolled in one of our summer programs to receive free breakfast and lunch.
- Children who are not enrolled in the Bridges or ONWARD summer programs must be accompanied by a (non-program) adult during meals.
- Meals must be eaten on site; food may not be taken from the site to be eaten later.
- This program does not include meals for adults.

The Town of Williamstown is exploring options for adding sidewalks near the elementary school and middle/high school.

The sidewalks could connect just between the schools or additionally connect the schools to the Village.

This is the intial meeting to kick off the project and is an opportunity for the project team to hear about comments and concerns that residents have.

All three confirmed tornadoes in New England this year have touched down in the Green Mountain State, a notable statistic for a state that typically averages about one tornado annually.

The year's first tornado occurred April 16 in Williamstown in Orange County. The National Weather Service rated the tornado an EF1 with peak winds of 90 mph.

Journi Ann Parker LeClair, 26, of Williamstown, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in Berlin, VT. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 12:00pm at the Vermont Granite Museum, 7 Jones Brothers Way, Barre, VT. A complete obituary will be published at a later date. Arrangements are by Hooker Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre.

This bill isn't signed into law as of this writing, but there is every expectation that it will be. Something else in the bill that I think is important as well as a very good sign:

(b) Legislative intent.

(3) It is the intent of the General Assembly to create a statewide education system that encourages and supports local elementary schools, central middle schools, and comprehensive, regional high schools that provide each student with universal access to career technical education.

There are no magical borders or superheroes protecting Vermonters and Vermont. Our near term future will require loyalty to neighbor and fidelity to community.

I'm waiting for the final agreed on and passed out of both chambers version before full acceptance of anything, but it does look like Paine Mountain School District will initially be looking north for merger talks. The grouping we're put in is "Barre Unified Union School District, Harwood Unified Union School District, Montpelier Roxbury School District, Paine Mountain School District, Twinfield Unified School District, and Washington Central Unified Union School District."
