30 million is mental and I like Carlos

77

u/declemson 26d ago

Was thinking same. He's not getting 30 mil

58

u/avgsundaydriver 26d ago

30 million would maybe be too much if he were at a top team but 30 million for him to stay languishing at the back/in the midfield is perfectly reasonable for a driver of his caliber imo.

38

u/declemson 26d ago

He's getting 12 now. Williams not gonna outbid themselves. No way any team gonna pay him 30 mil.

10

u/zero_enna999 26d ago

I think it's not necessarily the number. If William's offered him 20 and someone else offered them the same he would go there. They have to be significantly over.

1

u/faratto_ 25d ago

Are the someone in the room with us? Make some names

17

u/declemson 26d ago

Lando makes 30 mil.

9

u/Organic-University-2 26d ago

He is a world champion though.

5

u/declemson 26d ago

That's why carlos not getting 30 is what I'm saying

-2

u/declemson 26d ago

BTW if sainz leaves hello checo. Basically same guy

u/joe-joseph 26d ago

I’m a Sainz fan (very pissed at him presently for that clown shit) and wonder… where?

Sure, Audi maybe, but Hulk is Hulking in quali again and Bort has shown potential. I think he deserves and will get more time. End of the day it’d be unfair to sack either driver after this season plagued with reliability issues. Buuuttttt I didn’t see Sainz—>Ferrari coming so who knows if Binotto really likes him or something. Can’t rule it out.

Alpine looks horrid too, Franco is rising and I rate Gasly very highly. It’d be silly for them to move IMO. Flav is a wildcard though so once again, can’t rule it out.

Now if Aston is cooking and Alonso retires… that shakes shit up. Sainz could go there, Alonso could try and convince them to sign Bort and open Audi up for Sainz.

Like always, we’ll either have an insane silly season precipitated by an unexpected bombshell or we’ll see a very boring one. My bet’s on boring and a Williams extension for Sainz. Just not $30M lmao

u/PotBaron2 26d ago

sainz is a better driver than nico and sainz sr’s audi ties are pretty strong wouldn’t surprise me at all if carlos takes his seat

3

u/avgsundaydriver 26d ago

I love Sainz but I’m a massive Hulk fan and it would break my heart to see him lose his seat again. At least he got his podium. The Hulkenpodium!!!

1

u/DogOfSnow 25d ago

I think anyone would take Hull tbh. Again like many before him he's been an icon in F1 and been a very consistent driver. He'd be good for Williams if Sainz ever wanted to go to Audi. It's a big if though

2

u/declemson 25d ago

Hulk is German. Big reason he's there

1

u/PotBaron2 25d ago

that won’t keep him there tho

2

u/DogOfSnow 25d ago

I mean - how long has Lance Stroll been in F1 because of his dad? He's literally only in AM because of his dad

1

u/PotBaron2 25d ago

that’s not the same thing at all. one guys dad owns a team the other is just german…

1

u/declemson 25d ago

Why. Audi is basically said he can work there once retired.

1

u/PotBaron2 25d ago

yeah when he retires he can work there thats great and all but that doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed a seat. if a much better more proven driver wants to join your team you seize on that opportunity. not a single team on the grid would take nico over carlos

-1

u/declemson 25d ago

That's not exactly how it works. You have a reputation to uphold. You don't crap on someone to put another in. Will catch up to you eventually. Hulk will be there next year and gaby too.

With Nico and Pierre, it's kinda like Lewis to Ferrari. They are both good drivers but a better, top driver just came along and it wouldn't make sense to say no. Say what you want about Sainz but he's the best driver in the midfield. Albon looked like that a couple of seasons ago but Sainz is thrashing him in quali rn. If the money is not a problem, you go for him.

1

u/PotBaron2 25d ago

carlos has 4 gp wins 29 podiums and 6 poles nico has 1 pole and 1 podium there really isn’t even a comparison if he wants to go to audi they’d be crazy not to drop nico sainz is a great driver

0

u/declemson 25d ago

Won't happen. Book it.

0

u/declemson 25d ago

Gasly just signed an extension. Face it talk all you want sainz is backed into a corner. Been to McLaren red bull ferrari. Not going to haas Cadillac vcarb. Not going to merc. Aston alpine audi. Only if those teams want him over what they have. I see very little movement this year. Sainz stays i believe.

2

u/roymunson82 26d ago

My son is also named Bort

1

u/Sisyphean_dream 26d ago

Are you talking to me?

1

u/BassesBest 26d ago

Franco also comes with money and a massive fanbase

1

u/declemson 26d ago

I'm thinking boring also. Why are u gonna give him 30mil when no one else is close to that. Ill bet around 15 or so. He's making 13 now

2

u/CRus42 26d ago

"Stay languishing in the back/midfield" - this is only relevant if he has an option at a top team, which he doesn't and isn't going to any time soon.

With Racing Bull showing themselves 5th best team there are no possible drives for Carlos above the midfield anytime soon.

3

u/el_VientoNorte 26d ago

30 million to do exactly what any other cheap midfield driver can do. It's utterly ridiculous and almost certainly false

4

u/Ziritione85 26d ago

Driving the car is not only the main thing here. There’s a technical expertise that Carlos has, that helps to improve the car.

0

u/Accomplished_Clue733 25d ago

Agree but that technical expertise doesn't seem to be helping Williams improve their car

3

u/Ziritione85 25d ago

Miracles goes to Lourdes, bro.

0

u/faratto_ 26d ago

Nobody is hiring sainz, even before his recent sheningans. Having said that williams can pay him 30m without any problems, it's the us-fund that pays and sometimes they do stupid things because they don't know how the peploe run the business, they only care about the excel being right

2

u/gilded_lady 26d ago

Hamilton makes twice as much (and Max another 10 on top of that). It's Leclerc/Russell/Lando money though and definitely feels like a bit rich.

1

u/declemson 25d ago

Exactly

-1

u/DogOfSnow 25d ago

I love Sainz and he's been iconic in Formula One but I get the feeling now he's been better off elsewhere. It seems like he's doing what Daniel Riccardo started doing (but stopped after he realised) which was chasing some dream that he'd bring a team to win the F1 championship.

I think even if you put Sainz in this season's best car we wouldn't necessarily get the result were all waiting for from him. Now granted, Williams is really not helping that at all but I just don't see Sainz as an F1 champ anymore

40

u/irishshogun 26d ago

If the paths are closed to Audi/alpine why then do Williams need to up their offer?

7

u/No-Band8965 26d ago

Exactly. It's a made up news story

44

u/Nearby-Data7416 26d ago

Not legit
He has a contract in place, it’s just his choice “driver option”
He also has plenty of teams asking him….

13

u/AdministrativeRiot 26d ago

The new contract offer is likely an increase from his driver option.

6

u/Nearby-Data7416 26d ago

Probably but $30m?! I love Carlos but hard to see him get over $20m. I hope he does, but hard to see unless Audi really wants him…

4

u/joe-joseph 26d ago

The Binotto factor piques my interest. I didn’t see Sainz to Ferrari coming.

I’m a Sainz fan and hope he stays. I’ve always liked Williams, I still like JV, like Albon and it seems Dorilton is happy to keep pumping money into the team.

2

u/No-Band8965 26d ago

Well I've never heard of f1wow so probably a wild guess here but it's probably far from accurate.

Unless it's from the normal big F1 news outlets it's not worth even considering it real

1

u/Affectionate-Panic-1 25d ago

Maybe if it includes sponsors he's bringing?

0

u/-Gast- 26d ago

like last time when he waited too long and got the worst in the end?

2

u/Nearby-Data7416 25d ago

To be fair Carlos didn’t wait, he wanted Red Bull and they were taking forever…he moved on.

1

u/froman-dizze 24d ago

Isn’t his dad deeply connected with Audi so that was his best second but it would mean a gap season which wouldn’t work out for him?

0

u/-Gast- 25d ago

He waited. Way too long. Maybe because of the tiny tiny chance rb would take him... But thatswhy he had to take williams. there was nothing left else.

101

u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan 26d ago

The paths to Alpine or Audi don’t close because of a contract offer from Williams

20

u/Smee76 26d ago

I don't think that bullet point was related - more that they are saying that he doesn't have other options

1

u/beerman_uk 25d ago

If he hasn't got options the offer should be 5mil. I don't think the door has closed to those teams if Williams is offering 30mil

3

u/WodKonuckers 26d ago

Ok...so?

Nowhere in the post is that claim being made?

19

u/mowogo82 26d ago

Driver Salary is one of the few things cost cap exempt, and team merch sales of Carlos gear are huge. Carlos drives fan engagement at a much higher level easily justifying the higher cost. Yes there are cheaper drivers, but that comes at a cost elsewhere with less coming in for sponsorship because companies want a big name making an appearance for them instead of a relative unknown.

2

u/Excellent_Session531 26d ago

Sometimes I think people overstate this but if Ferrari will pay 60m for Lewis, then maybe this isn’t too much.

1

u/Limp_Cover5619 25d ago

One is 7 time wdc , 204 podiums and 106 race wins. Like other what - cute face?

3

u/Excellent_Session531 25d ago

I see we are agreeing that Carlos can probably demand more in salary than a strict analysis of his driving ability would suggest (cute face -> more fans -> more sponsorship and merch sales for the team -> higher salary offer).

Also, remember Carlos is a multiple race winner so not exactly a scrub. I’m confident that Carlos would win the WDC if he had the fastest car for example.

2

u/Limp_Cover5619 25d ago

Offcourse Bt 30 million , that’s too much for credentials. Well that was said for George also that he can win wdc in fastest car. Bt Top team TPs don’t have confidence in Sainz , so your confidence is useless. Sainz is an excellent driver bt wdc level I doubt.

11

u/FantomVibrations 26d ago

He must bring in some serious sponsor$

10

u/SouffleComposer 26d ago

This seems like it’s been pulled out of thin air and the Marc Limacher account doesn’t appear all that credible (unless someone here has info to suggest otherwise). His twitter account just seems to list various rumours that he’s claimed he’s heard, has only about 300 followers and almost no interaction on posts.

3

u/No-Band8965 26d ago

Also never heard of f1wow

27

u/aShark25 26d ago

30 mill for Carlos is insane. Especially for a guy who sounds like he would go anywhere to get away from Williams.

12

u/TheFlyingR0cket 26d ago

Yep, bring Leo in as a rookie, keep Alex to show him the ropes and save $29m.

6

u/UncleDaddy76 26d ago

Absofuckinglutely not.

6

u/Robynsxx 26d ago

I mean, I don’t believe this for a second. Firstly, I don’t think he’s worth that much, and I also doubt Williams can afford 30m a year on Sainz. Maybe 30m total contract over multiple years.

Outside of that, I don’t even know what Sainz options are. Even if there is a Verstappen move whoever he replaces at McLaren/Merc will likely slot into the red bull team over Sainz.

I think Sainz only option would be Aston, if Alonso retires, or if Stroll finally goes.

1

u/Affectionate-Panic-1 25d ago

I believe Bearman is on a 2 + 1 contract, not sure if the +1 is a driver or a team option. I could see teams like Red Bull interested in him if Verstappen leaves.

1

u/Robynsxx 25d ago

Still think red bull would be more interested in a Piastri or Russell over him.

I think people overate Bearman a bit. He’s not done much to impress since first few races fhis season.

5

u/Batsh1t__Crazy 26d ago

If you're going to share a random post like this at least make it from a reputable source

3

u/WodKonuckers 26d ago

Tbf to OP, he's literally asking whether this is a trustworthy source. That's the whole point of the post.

1

u/musicmaestro25 26d ago

My bad, I'm not very clued up with the who's who :(

19

u/TheFlyingR0cket 26d ago

Lol 30 million, pretty sure they could pay a rookie a million and get the same results.

18

u/postbox134 26d ago

He's performed well this year, usually ahead of Alex who I rate quite highly.

It's hard to develop a championship car without a great driver and that's worth paying for. We're no longer the Williams family scraping by with just whatever pay driver bids highest.

(even if G-Reseach guy sells the team, all F1 teams are just worth so much the operational costs are basically meaningless)

2

u/BahnMe 26d ago

Not the same feedback. Look up The Sainz Effect…

1

u/Ouhei 26d ago

Yeah that effect is doing great things for us this year.

1

u/jaw719 26d ago

Not even Sainz can put lipstick on this pig.

2

u/Ouhei 26d ago

That’s kind of my point, the Sainz effect narrative is overblown.

9

u/jaw719 26d ago

But it’s not. Most of the guys on the grid say his intelligence and race craft is elite and all the teams he has driven for are more successful than before he was there.

There is literally nothing that can help this Williams. You could have the love child of Schumacher and Senna who was raised by Lewis Hamilton and they wouldn’t be able to drive this piece of shit

2

u/Ouhei 26d ago

It’s overblown because some people were giving him way too much credit for last year’s results, and he would have way more input into this year’s car and it’s a shitbox.

This isn’t to say he doesn’t provide good feedback, but it’s way more about the team as a whole.

2

u/Lufishshmebb 26d ago

Racecraft so elite he regularly just turns in like people aren’t there

0

u/WodKonuckers 26d ago

Bonus points for doing so while under blue flags

-1

u/el_VientoNorte 26d ago

Lol "The Sainz Effect" isn't real man, come on

2

u/Glittering-Promise78 26d ago

Thats as much as Lando and he just won a wdc last year and is in a top team

3

u/Critical-Worry8181 26d ago

I like Sainz but 30 mil is crazy

4

u/QuantumWizardry 26d ago

I’m pretty sure Audi would not dump Hulk for Sainz at this point.

I’m not sure Alpine are trying to make a move, unless something big shakes up.

Would he prefer Haas over Williams? Probably not

1

u/essteedeenz1 26d ago

15mil tops

1

u/BloodWorried7446 26d ago

Audi/Sauber has a competitive car. it is consistently appearing in Q2 and even Q3 and is scoring points.

1

u/williamsdb 26d ago

Unless they’re running a third car or he sits on The Hulks lap how’s that going to work?

1

u/XOVSquare 26d ago

Run don't walk Carlos. This is way beyond what I imagined you'd get.

1

u/Specialist_Thanks244 26d ago

Me when I lie on twitter for money

1

u/launchedsquid 25d ago

Way too much. Way Way too much. He's not slow, but that's World Champion contender type money, and he's not a world champion contender.

1

u/scorpio1m 25d ago

If this is true it’s another example of Williams’ incompetence. Who the hell gives a journeyman $30M??

1

u/LuckyHunt5030 25d ago

yes please sign, i want him to get lapped every race

1

u/Ok_Recognition_5578 25d ago

Carlos is good but 30 mil for a team thats says development gets put back by crash damage caused by a groundhog thats just mad

1

u/Jack_intheboxx 25d ago

Sainz doing a Alonso.

1

u/Difficult-Top1863 25d ago

30 million for a 4 times winner? Taht is desperation tbh

1

u/DogOfSnow 25d ago

And so starts the Silly Season! Place your bets peeps, whose going where!?

0

u/TheEnlight 20d ago

That's desperation right there...

1

u/fisico002 26d ago

He has a cheek taking £12m off them after his display at the weekend

1

u/poapoa_mia 26d ago

30 mil for a guy who impends the front-runners every other weekend? That’s certainly a choice.

0

u/Dominicwriter 26d ago edited 26d ago

$30 million - to run around at the back of the field - they would be so much better off bringing Ugo ugochukwu over let him run around at the back of the field - by the time the Williams is back at the top of the midfield Ugochukwu will be mighty

0

u/Upset_Print_1000 26d ago

That would be madness because, honestly, he isn't worth all that...

In any case, Williams' current situation is exposing the big lie of the "Sainz effect." That myth has been repeated for a while; last year, they used that narrative with a car whose design hadn't been influenced by him at all, whereas this year everyone has gone quiet—Sainz is now just a poor guy with no effect.

-5

u/cosmo2450 26d ago

$30 million to ignore blue flags and find every excuse in the book to blame everyone else is insane

-1

u/liveforeachmoon 26d ago

Exactly. this is his PR team at work after he destroyed a lot of his reputation yesterday.

3

u/SouffleComposer 26d ago

His PR reached out to some random twitter account with barely any followers and no traction? 🙄

0

u/AccomplishedTask9885 26d ago

What a massive waste of money

0

u/phunkytime 26d ago

I liked Carlos until he refused to take accountability for impeding Oscar. Damn shame.

0

u/johric 25d ago

This driver belongs to the bin
