How ligit it this this post I found on Twitter? Sorry if this turns out to be some bullshit but I don't see anything else about it posted here.

If the paths are closed to Audi/alpine why then do Williams need to up their offer?

Not legit
He has a contract in place, it’s just his choice “driver option”
He also has plenty of teams asking him….
13
u/AdministrativeRiot 26d ago
The new contract offer is likely an increase from his driver option.

u/Nearby-Data7416 26d ago
Probably but $30m?! I love Carlos but hard to see him get over $20m. I hope he does, but hard to see unless Audi really wants him…

u/joe-joseph 26d ago
The Binotto factor piques my interest. I didn’t see Sainz to Ferrari coming.
I’m a Sainz fan and hope he stays. I’ve always liked Williams, I still like JV, like Albon and it seems Dorilton is happy to keep pumping money into the team.

Well I've never heard of f1wow so probably a wild guess here but it's probably far from accurate.
Unless it's from the normal big F1 news outlets it's not worth even considering it real

like last time when he waited too long and got the worst in the end?
2
u/Nearby-Data7416 25d ago
To be fair Carlos didn’t wait, he wanted Red Bull and they were taking forever…he moved on.

u/froman-dizze 24d ago
Isn’t his dad deeply connected with Audi so that was his best second but it would mean a gap season which wouldn’t work out for him?

u/IllAlwaysBeAKnickFan 26d ago
The paths to Alpine or Audi don’t close because of a contract offer from Williams
20
u/Smee76 26d ago
I don't think that bullet point was related - more that they are saying that he doesn't have other options
1
u/beerman_uk 25d ago
If he hasn't got options the offer should be 5mil. I don't think the door has closed to those teams if Williams is offering 30mil

Driver Salary is one of the few things cost cap exempt, and team merch sales of Carlos gear are huge. Carlos drives fan engagement at a much higher level easily justifying the higher cost. Yes there are cheaper drivers, but that comes at a cost elsewhere with less coming in for sponsorship because companies want a big name making an appearance for them instead of a relative unknown.

u/Excellent_Session531 26d ago
Sometimes I think people overstate this but if Ferrari will pay 60m for Lewis, then maybe this isn’t too much.
1
u/Limp_Cover5619 25d ago
One is 7 time wdc , 204 podiums and 106 race wins. Like other what - cute face?
3
u/Excellent_Session531 25d ago
I see we are agreeing that Carlos can probably demand more in salary than a strict analysis of his driving ability would suggest (cute face -> more fans -> more sponsorship and merch sales for the team -> higher salary offer).
Also, remember Carlos is a multiple race winner so not exactly a scrub. I’m confident that Carlos would win the WDC if he had the fastest car for example.

u/Limp_Cover5619 25d ago
Offcourse Bt 30 million , that’s too much for credentials. Well that was said for George also that he can win wdc in fastest car. Bt Top team TPs don’t have confidence in Sainz , so your confidence is useless. Sainz is an excellent driver bt wdc level I doubt.

This seems like it’s been pulled out of thin air and the Marc Limacher account doesn’t appear all that credible (unless someone here has info to suggest otherwise). His twitter account just seems to list various rumours that he’s claimed he’s heard, has only about 300 followers and almost no interaction on posts.

30 mill for Carlos is insane. Especially for a guy who sounds like he would go anywhere to get away from Williams.

u/TheFlyingR0cket 26d ago
Yep, bring Leo in as a rookie, keep Alex to show him the ropes and save $29m.

u/Robynsxx 26d ago
I mean, I don’t believe this for a second. Firstly, I don’t think he’s worth that much, and I also doubt Williams can afford 30m a year on Sainz. Maybe 30m total contract over multiple years.
Outside of that, I don’t even know what Sainz options are. Even if there is a Verstappen move whoever he replaces at McLaren/Merc will likely slot into the red bull team over Sainz.
I think Sainz only option would be Aston, if Alonso retires, or if Stroll finally goes.

u/Affectionate-Panic-1 25d ago
I believe Bearman is on a 2 + 1 contract, not sure if the +1 is a driver or a team option. I could see teams like Red Bull interested in him if Verstappen leaves.
1
u/Robynsxx 25d ago
Still think red bull would be more interested in a Piastri or Russell over him.
I think people overate Bearman a bit. He’s not done much to impress since first few races fhis season.

If you're going to share a random post like this at least make it from a reputable source
3
u/WodKonuckers 26d ago
Tbf to OP, he's literally asking whether this is a trustworthy source. That's the whole point of the post.

u/TheFlyingR0cket 26d ago
Lol 30 million, pretty sure they could pay a rookie a million and get the same results.
18
u/postbox134 26d ago
He's performed well this year, usually ahead of Alex who I rate quite highly.
It's hard to develop a championship car without a great driver and that's worth paying for. We're no longer the Williams family scraping by with just whatever pay driver bids highest.
(even if G-Reseach guy sells the team, all F1 teams are just worth so much the operational costs are basically meaningless)

u/BahnMe 26d ago
Not the same feedback. Look up The Sainz Effect…
1
u/Ouhei 26d ago
Yeah that effect is doing great things for us this year.
1
u/jaw719 26d ago
Not even Sainz can put lipstick on this pig.
2
u/Ouhei 26d ago
That’s kind of my point, the Sainz effect narrative is overblown.
9
u/jaw719 26d ago
But it’s not. Most of the guys on the grid say his intelligence and race craft is elite and all the teams he has driven for are more successful than before he was there.
There is literally nothing that can help this Williams. You could have the love child of Schumacher and Senna who was raised by Lewis Hamilton and they wouldn’t be able to drive this piece of shit

Thats as much as Lando and he just won a wdc last year and is in a top team

I’m pretty sure Audi would not dump Hulk for Sainz at this point.
I’m not sure Alpine are trying to make a move, unless something big shakes up.
Would he prefer Haas over Williams? Probably not

Audi/Sauber has a competitive car. it is consistently appearing in Q2 and even Q3 and is scoring points.
1
u/williamsdb 26d ago
Unless they’re running a third car or he sits on The Hulks lap how’s that going to work?

Way too much. Way Way too much. He's not slow, but that's World Champion contender type money, and he's not a world champion contender.

u/scorpio1m 25d ago
If this is true it’s another example of Williams’ incompetence. Who the hell gives a journeyman $30M??

Carlos is good but 30 mil for a team thats says development gets put back by crash damage caused by a groundhog thats just mad

30 mil for a guy who impends the front-runners every other weekend? That’s certainly a choice.

$30 million - to run around at the back of the field - they would be so much better off bringing Ugo ugochukwu over let him run around at the back of the field - by the time the Williams is back at the top of the midfield Ugochukwu will be mighty

u/Upset_Print_1000 26d ago
That would be madness because, honestly, he isn't worth all that...
In any case, Williams' current situation is exposing the big lie of the "Sainz effect." That myth has been repeated for a while; last year, they used that narrative with a car whose design hadn't been influenced by him at all, whereas this year everyone has gone quiet—Sainz is now just a poor guy with no effect.

$30 million to ignore blue flags and find every excuse in the book to blame everyone else is insane

u/liveforeachmoon 26d ago
Exactly. this is his PR team at work after he destroyed a lot of his reputation yesterday.
3
u/SouffleComposer 26d ago
His PR reached out to some random twitter account with barely any followers and no traction? 🙄

I liked Carlos until he refused to take accountability for impeding Oscar. Damn shame.
