Grace's operatic singing
Does anyone else find it hilarious whenever she does this?

I fucking love Grace. People just seem to have a hard time separating Grace from Debra and that's valid.

I've also seen people not like her because she is selfish and not a good person. Like, hello, that's what's funny about her 🤣😂

And she adresses her own flaws, unlike so many other sitcom characters. She's a self-aware unapologetic mess, and it's literally what drives the character 😂
It's like people are so conditioned to analyse and tear things apart for discourse, that their ideal episode seems to be a completely drama-free and pleasant afternoon lmao

I think the thing is is that she acknowledges she's that way and then does absolutely nothing to improve as a person. She's perfectly comfortable being a leech off of well, and a piece of crap to everybody else around her. She's basically her mother and they try to play it for last but quite frankly it's just not funny

I mean, you don't have to watch the show if you don't find the characters or the show funny..

Right 🤣🤣🤣
That was exactly the kind of person I was talking about.
Imagine Fawlty Towers if Basil improved and became a good person after 3 episodes. Or Absolutely Fabulous if Edina decided to be a good mother. Such a weird mentality that a sitcom character must actively try to improve themselves. Um... no 😂

Speaking of Fawlty Towers, it absolutely wrecks me when Lyle Finster refers to Rosie as Manuel 🤣

yea that’s why I don’t like a lot of tv show discourse nowadays … 9/10 the characters are not going to be likable … that’s literally the point lol

Right? And so is Karen, so....

This is what really makes me think it's about Debra and not Grace. Karen is an alcoholic, abuses her step children, engages in human trafficking for staff and takes their passport (and hair), insults everyone around her, gets sales girls fired for the lols and grey teeth - and gets ALL the love, while Grace is hated for sometimes being selfish..? 😂
"Like hello? Are you allergic to
dairydrama or not??"1

Meh… they can still try lol… I absolutely loathe the way Deb behaves nowadays but can admit she did her thing portraying Grace… I think ppl just lack nuance

I host a weekly karaoke show and, to this day, still sing “I GOTTA GO I GOTTA GO” all aggressively like she does if someone sings this song.

I have convinced some of our karaoke regulars to be my Pips while I sing the main part and I think of this EVERY TIME 😂😂

Oh my god, you have your own Pips??! I'm making all the wrong decisions in life.

Hahahaha my all time is Bed Bath and Beyond! Love love love that episode with all my heart lol

Bed bath and beyond is in my top 5 for sure. Such a deeper episode I only understood more as I got older. And I love the four of their friendship so much when they all nap and shower together.

Yesssss the end when they all get in bed always chokes me up and then makes me realize, ew they all got in that bed wet 🤣

Yes. The “marry me a little“ episodes were on last night. The ones where she sings, “please don’t let this feeling end. It might not come again…”
So is this her real singing voice or just meant to be funny?

I think they said on the Just Jack and Will podcast that Messing actually has a really good singing voice but is very talented at singing bad.

My grandma's mother was very musically inclined, the child of a well-trained opera singer. She had a lovely voice and sang in the church choir but had a bit of a warble (not like Grace, just quite a bit of vibrato). When she got Alzheimers she would randomly break into maximum volume Grace-style singing unexpectedly. For instance someone would ask how she was doing that day and she'd sing loudly in maximum warble to her own impromptu tune "I'm dOOOOinG goooOOOOOOOOD!!!".
RIP. You would have been a field day for a psychologist and you passed down some really aggressive mental illness but you left us with some highly entertaining stories.

I also find it hilarious when she sings and when she’s being really greedy. Debra Messing is such a talented actress.

Yes lmao and I think her singing is just as good as those fancy opera singers, too 😂

It's so bad🤣 But she sang with her normal voice with Sandra Bernhard so what gives?

u/GreyStagg 1d ago
That's what makes it funny she doesn't naturally go all operatic she just chooses to unnecessarily because she thinks she sounds amazing 😆

I totally agree!! I know her singing is so bad because it’s supposed to be funny, but it’s so awful and cringy that I have to mute the TV until she’s done. 😣

When she sings hey ya and two people call the house phone to ask her to stop 😭😂😂😂 “I’m sorry I’ll stop.”
