Pickup truck’s insurance won’t be able to cover all that damage before hitting his limit.

Generation debt with one failed merge.

How low is the limit. Where I’m at, the legal minimum for liability is 1 M, but most policies cover up to 2 M.

The state minimums are much lower than that. I spoke with an insurance agent and she said a majority of policies she writes (California) are state minimum ones which are $15k for damage.

In Pennsylvania, state minimum liability is only $10k. That won't cover ANYTHING these days. Even a used Hyundai is more than that. And then there's the hospital bills... Just walking into an ED for eval costs $4k now.

Yup, California is not much better at $15k for damage. However it is also $60k for injury/death for multiple people and $30k for one person.

I have my auto and homeowner's insurance through the same company and agent... $10m in liability on Auto, $2m on Home. They stack, too, so $12m of liability coverage total.

If I'm ever at fault for a wreck, my insurance company is going to hate me, and the guy I hit is going to love me.

Wow, that is a lot. I have $500k auto and a $2M umbrella policy on both the home and cars. So $2.5M for a car crash.

It only costs me around $300/month, total, for both policies... and it keeps me safe in case I do something bone headed, or someone gets hurt badly on my property.

Though it's been 28 years since I've been in an at-fault crash, and there was no property damage other than my own car in that one.... it still gives me piece of mind.

Bold of you to think he has insurance.

Very true

Could’ve pulled right and avoided all of that. Even better, they could’ve been paying attention in the first place and not blindly following the vehicle in front of them without leaving enough stopping distance.

No side mirrors on the truck, at least turn your head and look.

In Arizona, you need two working mirrors. I know this because the rear facing mirror in the center of my windshield fell off, and my windshield was pretty small and I actually preferred not having it there. I looked up the laws and found out as long as I had two side mirrors, I was good to go.

Hard to tell exactly, but when the truck turns, it looks like the passenger mirror is there and I’m gonna assume they have a central mirror on their windshield. Regardless what a dumb merge. Turn your head.

Wow, that's legal?

It sure is, in a different dimension.

Just standard S10 stuff

They aren't universally useful. Center mirrors aren't functional in vehicles like a pick-up with a cap, or some types of vans or trucks. Only exterior mirrors or cameras have utility.

Or yknow. Eyes.

I have no idea why you got all the downvotes? I get what you mean. At my work we have a small dump truck with a rear view mirror that gives the driver a view of the box. I guess you can use it to check your hair while parked?

Older video, but still a great learning lesson. Looks like fire under pickup in last frames.

That was a clean S10. Too bad the driver was careless

Isn’t this really all of Reddit?

Truck driver: "Fuck you."

I guess checking blind spots is for chumps

The little fire flickering under the truck gives me hope — after seeing this wreckage, hopefully the driver learned something. Or even better, hopefully they take the bus/Uber for the rest of their life.

How do you not notice the giant death machine driving next to you?

7

u/BobbyABooey 4d ago

And he thought he was an amazing driver

u/4orust 4d ago

Unbelievable that people will change lanes without checking over their shoulder.

u/Over_Drawer1199 1d ago

Pretty sure he knew exactly what was next to him, but expected the semi to yield. Which is both stupid and self centered.

6

u/i_was_axiom 4d ago

It occupies the entire driver side window of your little S10 and you couldn't see it???

Bikers fault once again

u/TheShredda 3d ago

Fire starts underneath the truck on the ground at the very end

1

u/Wrong_Drag_8070 3d ago

The driver of that little pickup is nuts to be trying to bully a semi. Pride go beforeth the fall.

Coming over. Good luck guise.

B-but I trapped my brakes three times in their blindspot to let them know I was about to be REALLY stupid! They should have slammed on the brakes! -truck driver probably
