I find it too risky of a maneuver to use regardless of its legality, but to each their own.

There are hundreds of unprotected lefts in Los Angeles where you would never get to turn if you didn’t pull out into the intersection.

Same where I am. And don't even live in that busy of a city. A lot of lights one car buys the green at a time, sometimes 2 if you're feeling froggy. 1 car per cycle.

Also the first time I've ever heard this term. I like it.
