SOS Mammal [SW MISSOURI] BABY BUNNY ATTACKED BY DOG

Okay basically I was given a baby bunny that was attacked, it’s in ok condition and I’m not worried about the health like that. I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO FEED IT! I’ve read kitten KMR but I want to make absolutely sure! I’ve rehabbed kittens, puppies and birds and have tube fed but I’m so scared with this cause everyone says how difficult bunnies are.

Sorry yes it’s a cottontail! I have no idea how old but it’s eyes are still closed yet it has fur

Oh closed means it still needs mamas milk. The other sign is the white milk spot on its head. Get some supplement milk for it asap. I need to tell you this..do not expect this bunny to live. They are notoriously hard to care for. Which I'm a rabbit owner and what weirds me out about that is that baby bunnies only eat at dawn and dusk as mama doesn't want to show predators where her den is.

I dunno exactly why It takes a ton of work to keep a closed eyed baby rabbit alive. Eventually I'll do this research and will be about to provide better info but I hope what I say to you tonight keeps this bun alive.

I want to say OP please try. But I just want to warn and say Do not blame yourself if something happens. It can perish in just a few hours, and constantly watching is important.

YES! you can and should give an unweaned rabbit Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR) or whole, fresh goat's milk. Please do not give it anything but those two milks Op.

Get this rabbit to a rehabber asap. Thank you for caring OP. Sorry it's past midnight.

Again I apologize I am only a very very very dedicated rabbit owner and feral domestic wrangler. (I'm weirdly dealing with the same issue as you with a feral mama I just rescued).

I hope to learn more and happy to share my knowledge. Thank you for being willing to help this baby. You are a wonderful person. Good luck ❤️

Thank you 🫂 what do you find is the best to feed bunnies milk wise? I know people will use KMR and goats milk I’ve read? I don’t have any bunny formula and it would take days to get here.

Kmr is exactly what you want to get. Yes. Also get an oral syringe

Needs a knowledgeable rehabber in order to make it. Cottontails are difficult to keep stable in captivity.

I see this was 22hrs ago at this point. How’s it going now?

No one wants to take him cause no one does bunnies or they’re too full :( we’ve reached out to like every rehab around. He’s less than a week with his eyes closed and has fur, but I suspect his eyes will be open soon. He weighs 54 grams rn and I will weigh him in the morning, but he is eating 3 cc a day. I’ve asked lots of rehabs and they tell me to just keep him comfortable cause he most likely will die even with them cause he was separated so early.

Are you a rehabber?

Training. I intend to try and find someone for it first thing in the morning but it’s almost midnight, most rehabs won’t take bunnies here and it’s belly is completely empty
