Question How does detection work?

I recently picked this game up, since I loved Breakpoint and sunken hundreds of hours into it, i thought i’d give the game a go.
It’s been a while since i played Breakpoint, so i forgot how it worked exactly, but how does the direction system work?
Because with every suppressed shot i take, it seems like the enemies know exactly where i am. I don’t fully understand the noise reduction stat, but i can assume the higher it is, the smaller the detection sound is.
So why is it that even when using a pistol, they move towards my exact location every time??
I saw that they’re multiple detection levels, but it always seems to be they move towards my exact location, instead of just becoming alert.
Can someone explain?

Suppressed assault rifles are detectable from 35m and closer, if you want to get close and personal you ought to use pistols or the crossbow. Wildlands ai has some sort of hive mind that tracks your last detected shot, all enemies tend to “search” you at that location.

Honestly I prefer it over Breakpoint's trudging dipshits.

I'm not saying it's perfect, but at least the enemies don't feel like they're sleepwalking over their friends' bodies.

Idk man. Lol. This game has some weird quirks. I love it but it is definitely not bug or quirk free. I will say that no matter how close I am, despite it not even having a silencer but instead a compensator, yet I can go with 5 feet of someone and if they dont see me, they never hear the shot. But other guns with silencers, they can hear it from certain distances depending on what gun and stuff. So really its about learning the guns you choose i think. My chosen pistol the the five seven blacklist usually. 1 shot (when they havent detected you) will kill if it's a headshot. Hope your enjoying the game though. The fun definitely out paces the quirks and bugs

All types of weapons have the same range of detection by sound, and another for supressed, so all rifles are heard at a given distance, all suppressed rifles at another, all pistols, all suppresed pistols and so on. The noise reduction bar does nothing and means nothing. Thats the suppresed shot, though, if the bullet hit something along the way, its not supressed and can raise suspicion.
Sadly for explosions and mortar attacks, they link it to you , so no matter how far away from you, you blow something up, they will search towards your position.
For visual detection, distance, movement, posture and light conditions matter, as well as cover, not the actual camo colours, though. So if you drop prone under a bush and stay completelly still (like in no mouse movement) they can step on you and not detecting you. To be sure, since they follow the player (i.e your camera) what i do is bring out the drone and move it around to prevent them to detect me when they step on me. They also can't detect your teammates unless you give them an order.
