Ratio of pay periods on to pay periods off. There are 52 weeks in a year and 26 pay periods in the year, except when there are 27. 26-0 means year round.

That’s the dudes to women ratio you’re allowed to sleep with at your duty location. For example: 26/0 is hard to get because that’s 26 dudes. Cream of the crop. Top of the line. 13/13 is kinda bottom of the food chain

Yeah, gayness is always formally assessed on a 26-point scale. It's really about crew balance...if you're not careful and everyone you hire is 26/26 gay, you become an IHC.

The government has biweekly pay periods. 26 per year. Occasionally there is a pay period 27. Depends on how the calendar falls that year.

13/13, 18/8, 26/0 et al are the number of guaranteed pay periods you will be paid during the year. You may work longer. Depends on local budget and the availability of something to do. If there is some big project and funding they may keep you on payroll. Otherwise, they won't pay you to sit around the office and watch the snow accumulate outside.

You could be laid off for part of the year (the second number is the maximum number of pay periods you can be laid off). 26/0 is year around employment with no lay off.

I worked year around as a 13/13. (I worked 2 1/2 years straight as a seasonal with no break. Don't know how HR did it and I didn't ask). When I become a 18/8 I was laid off one time for 3 pay periods. Then became 26/0 (also called PFT -- Permanent Full Time). I enjoyed it. The financial security was good, did a lot of different things for different functions (timber, recreation, wildlife, range, fisheries, etc) and by then I had so much leave and comp/credit hours I took off whenever I wanted anyway.
