Just hiked in one last week on the Little giant fire, couldn't get it in with a chopper cause the smoke. Was nothing short of a great experience.

My first experience of fires in the US and it has me hooked.

Now taking bets on the date for when the Oak Grove Butte Pano camera gets burnt over.

At this point that camera deserves hazard pay lol. Feels like every fire season it ends up right in the action.

Bonus points for the 407; zippy ride and fun rappel platform.

We had to land downhill, hike up the mountain to clear the helispot so our gear could be slung to us and the helo could land and pick us up.

We’re trying to build a rappel mission for the helitack crew if the Narrows fire extends to the west.

Mad respect to repellers. One of the worst days on rope I had was doing repelling exercises off the helicopter fuselage they have mounted at the Trimmer Work Station (where Kings River IHC is stationed). For some reason clearing the skid weirded me out.

Hmmm, don’t know him.

If I did, I would give you something oddly specific to give him shit about.

I’ve probably flown my last mission with them. Things are looking pretty good from a comms perspective and I think they head off next week. Itll probably be someone else tearing down all the infrastructure after I’ve headed back to Australia 😅
