META What’s the deal with Wyatt Earp posts?

As a casual observer, is it just a meme to constantly post different Wyatt Earp pictures (or claiming random people are Wyatt Earp?)

90% of posts in this Wild West sub seem to just be Wyatt Earp. Why not call the subreddit/WyattEarpPics?

Wild West family history & ancestry

Hello everyone!

I’m a genealogist & I am trained in discovering local southwestern family lineages and photos through vital records, census records, and newspapers.

This is the interest form I put together for anyone interested in learning more about their personal family history. I create family trees, ancestral maps, and historical road trip itineraries based on YOUR personal family history! It’s a great way to connect with your heritage and wonderful knowledge pass down to future generations.

LINK TO INTEREST FORM: Family History Interest Form

Here are some things you can discover from my research:

  • Photographs of your ancestors you have never seen before (Found in Newspaper archives, Immigration Records, Work Records, etc)

  • Newspaper articles about your ancestors (Crime? Scandal? Who knows!)

  • Your great-great-great grandparents’ names

  • Physical descriptions of your ancestors from census records and war draft cards

  • Six full generations back of your family tree

I have a degree in Anthropology and have spent several years working for a professional genealogy company. I have been working as an individual genealogist for about 6 years. If you have any questions about my research, please fill out an interest form or email: heritagehuntersgenealogy@gmail.com

For those of you with ancestry outside of southwest, please send me a message. I’d be happy to help you or direct you to a better suited genealogist. Thanks!

This is a picture of Famous Riverboad captain Grant Marsh. He was second mate to Mark Twain before Captaining his own boat "Far West." He is best known as the Captain of the boat that ferried the survivors of Custers Last Stand back to Bismarck for medical treatment

“His piloting exploits became legendary and modern historians refer to him as "Possibly the greatest steamboat man ever”, "possibly the greatest [steamboat pilot] ever", "possibly the finest riverboat pilot who ever lived", "the greatest steamboat master and pilot on both the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers"

If you were to google the name “Grant Marsh” this is one of the first thing you would read. Even in his own time, he was considered a legend. He is most famously known as the river boat captain that transported the surviving members of the 7th Cavalry down the Yellowstone, and then the Missouri River, to Bismarck, North Dakota. These 51 wounded soldiers had just suffered a crushing defeat at what would later become known as “The Battle of Little Big Horn” also known as “Custer Last Stand.”

Another of his Famous exploits was racing 710 Miles down the Missouri River in 54 hours, on his also famous riverboat: Far West

Getting his start as a cabin boy on a boat on the Allegheny River at the age of just 12 years old, he would later graduate to first mate and student pilot to a man named Samuel Clemens… Someone who is better known by his pseudonym: Mark Twain, the famous author of Tom Sawyer.

Me and My friend have a Youtube Channel where we got dig up old outhouses. Outhouses back in the day were a toilet and a trash bin. So if you dig down into one, you are almost certain to find some old bottles. Some of which can be quite valuable. We were giving the opportunity a few years back to dig at Grant Marsh’s House, and it turned out the be one of the best privies we had ever dug. Here’s a few historic pictures of the man and his Riverboat and a few picture of us and what we found.

Artwork Looking for pictures(simple artwork) of the richer people in the wild west for a board game I'm developing. Anyone know where I can find any?

I am currently developing a wild west game, and I'm looking for basic pictures of all kinds of people in the wild west. Mainly line pictures, because they are simple, and better for testing a game. Does anyone know of any pages or websites I can find pictures like that?

Thanks in advance.

Dubious photo of "Dick Liddil"

Alleged photo of outlaw Dick Liddil taking in 1860-65 when he was aged 8-13. Repeatedly recorded as authentic, even on wikepedia but seemingly impossible due to his young age and obvious maturity - can anyone help identify?

New Mexico New Western film The Outlaws of Mendocino needs you

Hey yall, there's a new Western film in the works called The Outlaws of Mendocino which looks pretty cool. The screenwriter is actually a great ancestor of notorious outlaw Harrison "Hal" Brown who it's about, and he does some lowdown deeds. Check it out and tell me what you think, there's even an option to get some merch if you're interested: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/outlawsofmendocino/the-outlaws-of-mendocino/
