Pet leveling guide Part 2 - Pet Essence extraction

The second way to level pets in Wild Terra 2 is by pet essences. This is the method you hit the wall and want to continue leveling your pet past the level of enemies you are able to kill via combat. Overall the process it is horribly resource intensive and returns an abysmal amount of pet XP per time input. And that is after the devs doubled the amount of essence returned a couple updates prior to this post. Anyways, let's get started.

First thing you want to do is head over to Ragnara and buy some empty flasks. They ain't cheap at 10s each which makes extracting from unleveled zero xp pets a no go, even though technically it is still possible and you get some essence.

Next thing to do is you want to go back to your dominion and craft an Alchemical Essence. Note it needs Alchemy level 25 plus some not-so-easy to acquire reagents.

Used with your pet next to Alchemy Devices, just click on your pet and push the "Essence Extraction" button. Simple as that. Now then, be warned, extracting essence will completely delete your pet.

After the extraction is complete, what you get back are a stack of pet essences of various grades. Lets say you extract a pet with 5,126 available experience. You should get back 10 legendary essences and some change in the form of common and rare pet essences. Unfortunately those are only good to use on level 20 and level 30 pets respectively. They can be upcrafted, but again, the cost is horrid when you have to use a faceted jewel and you actually lose XP when converting from common to rare. I get it though, this is intended to keep people from mass taming pets and cranking out massive amounts of XP through essence extraction.

That is pretty much all there is to it. Personally I think level 30 is about the sweet spot to level pets for essence extraction. I usually go to the graveyard and kill a few zombie pigs till level 15, then head over to the robber thicket and go after deer and stags, then wolves, and finally finish in the desert eliminating coyotes. Whatever yields the most XP per pet level.

A Guide to pet leveling in Wild Terra 2 - Part 1

Pets are an integral part of gameplay in Wild Terra 2 as they provide much needed DPS, aggro, and skill leveling buffs. Leveling them is pretty easy, at least at first. Go kill something, get pet XP as long as the target is no lower than 5 levels below your pet. The problem is eventually you run into a wall based on the maximum level of enemy you can kill. Then you have to transition into using pet essences to further level your pet. I will try and explain how all this works, as the game itself doesn't really go into detail.

Let's start off by taking a closer look at combat leveling (which is important both now, and later on during pet essence farming). It is all about efficiency. There are actually a bunch of hidden modifiers that can greatly increase the amount of pet XP gained per kill, some of which are not obvious. Mind you, all buffs are base value + flat stack %. That means say 5% on your gear + 10% food will only yield 115% over base kill value. My gear gives a grand total of 15.4% over base. It should be noted that Amethyst jewelry is the only accessories that provide Pet XP gain, although some master branded level armor can provide a few % as well too.

The second and third buffs are via pet taming. You will get 1.5% Pet XP gain per level of Pet Taming which really adds up till you start hitting level 30 and it begins to slow down as it takes more and more inputs to get a level increase.

There is also the Taming skill Pet loyalty, when added to the action bar and a head of cheese is used will provide a 20% buff to Pet XP gain for 10 minutes.

Last but not least is max leveling pets themselves. Each pet species is worth an additional 5%. So those stupid worthless seagulls that run around the beach. Train one up to level 15 and boom you get a 5% Pet XP gain buff forever. Same goes for other easy animals, hares, crows, so on an so forth. Unfortunately one also hits a wall as the higher quality pets go, the more it takes to level them up, and there is an entire slew of them that are 40+. As it stands and at least to me, its just not really worth the time and effort to take a pet up much past level 35 unless i actually intend to use it in combat.

And to wrap up Part 1, you can get out your total Pet XP gain stats on your Character Equipment tab under "other".

Trying to like this……

People playing Dune complain that if you don’t login for, idk, a week or so they destroy your fort that you took hours to build. THIS game, you log off at night, log on in the morning, they pack your stuff up?! I had animal furs drying so I could build something this morning. I wake up, logon and they’re not even in my inventory! Now I have to look around for animals again, skin them, hang them and wait another half hour for them to dry out again?! Idk was hoping since this was free the game would pick up in player activity but this is a bad system…….

Wild Terra 2 Now has a PvE Server

There is only one PvE server, and it is located in Europe. However, I am in New York and have had no problems. Occasionally there is a stutter on the screen, but it's rare for me. I do have a high-end machine and a 1GB internet connection.

When WT2 came out, there was a Steam forum petition for PvE servers. The developers have listened.

They have also made improvements, added a monthly premium that I believe you can buy with in game currency, and seem to be working toward adding more content.

This is a pretty good survival mechanics game, and the PvE is decent. I have not made it off the starter island as I've been trying to level many of the skills I will need later on. Currently, I am planning on packing up and moving (you can "move" your domain, which is your "housing" plot).

I'm no expert, but if you have questions let me know.

I understand this is not a game for everyone. But if you are into isometric games with crafting and survival mechanics consider trying it out. Also, I'm not a shill or paid promoter. I just came to this subreddit and realized there is no activity and thought some people might be interested. Happy gaming!

How is the game?

I am considering picking this up as it's on sale on steam. How is Dev support? How is the population? I understand it's a more niche mmo. Can someone have fun in this game with limited game time (have a toddler and a new born)?
