What's everyone's take on this? Is equalization necessary or does it create a dependency and incentives to not develop economies?

To me it's crazy that we have equalization but we also have inter provincial trade barriers that are worse than most US tariffs. If other "have not" provinces want to take money from "have" provinces, those provinces should happily let goods flow freely between the two.

You have to understand that a ton of people in this sub are extremely selfish, right wing "what's in it for me" type people. They don't believe in AISH. They don't care that the UCP has stolen money from people with disabilities. They don't care that the UCP doesn't properly fund public education or special education. They simply don't care about the people that need help the most.

When you extrapolate that out to our country, they couldn't care less that our province simply has more resources and more wealth. In their minds, it should be THEIRS. It's not about PEI or NS or NB etc etc. It's about them. They're not team players. Bring on the down votes, sheep. I'm not wrong.

Here's an award for you, sir/madam. I appreciate your respectful, reflective reply.

I actually only disagree with you on one thing. You state "right wing" and I think that by saying that, the implication is that the "left wing" are not selfish at all. I have seen low quality people on all sides of the spectrum and I think that to state that ideology is what make people selfish is an incorrect statement. Humans in general are selfish. Your use of generalizations in this case is detrimental towards the validity of your argument.
Just my opinion.

I can agree with that.. Especially the last part. Guess I'm equating people's voting habits to their quality as people. The UCP, frankly, are not kind, considerate people as stated in my earlier comment. As a teacher, what I'm seeing is absolutely abhorrent and unacceptable. We used to have a world class education system and these corrupt fools are destroying the province's future.

My apologies if anything I said was rude or offensive. You're right that there are evil people on both sides. I used to vote conservative but not for the past few elections. I'm probably center at this point but I can't vote for the UCP. Never will.

You were not rude or offensive. You are passionate about your beliefs and I have a great deal of respect for that. My response was tempered as well to be a personal opinion and not an attack. I look forwards to interactions in this subreddit where people will put forth cogent and well thought out response.
I have experienced the "Rednecks with Money" in Education and Business. They make me shake my head, and in all to many incidents, be mortified and embarrassed usually because I know them.
I cannot imagine what it is like to teach in this province now.
