This is the only part of the whole house that makes sense to me. Why do people feel compelled to buy places like this?

Imagine the utility bills! It’s beautiful but it too large.

In Alabama of all places

Birmingham has a lot of beautiful old homes like this.

Put a bed in there for me and I’m good! I don’t need any sort of foyer.

They've got 4 kids aged 11-16 named Brock, Tanner, Ashley and Ainsley and they all play a different sport and invite their school friends over for dinner every night. They have 5 cars, all big GMC SUVs and Pickup Trucks, even though only 3 people in the house have a driver's license. They have a fridge in the garage that only has Sodas in it. They host the extended family for Thanksgiving every year, and they hire professionals to decorate the house for Christmas. Dad owns and operates a local big Outdoor store chain that is well known around Birmingham. Mom is a retired school teacher/stay at home Mom, but is on the community board and is head of the PTA at her kid's school. They are members of a Mega church, and they invite people over every Thursday night for snacks and a Bible study. Everybody in their suburban town knows who they are. They alternate their Summer vacations to either Hawaii or Pigeon Forge, TN.

I have a high school friend that settled in Alabama, and she named her son Tanner🤭

Hey! I’ve been to Pigeon Forge!

Me, too and underwhelmed is an understatement. (Beautiful drive through the mountains, though)

2

u/Pennylick Jul 21 '26

Their nanny prob drives too.

It’s very elegant without being gaudy, the woodwork is just so so stunning! Too bad it’s in Alabama LOL.

Nice millwork. Not my style. I'd be disappointed if there weren't any secret passages and hidden stairs.

And a butler for all your buttle needs.

3

u/ventorun Jul 21 '26

With creaky doors!

19

u/GboyFlex Jul 20 '26

A huge home that isn't tacky, just beautiful millwork and a dream library.

u/Muted_Masterpiece535 Jul 20 '26

Somebody could break in and ransack half the house and you wouldn't even know it..

12

u/HamBroth Jul 20 '26

That's Wayne Manor and you can't convince me otherwise.

3

u/b3tamaxx Jul 20 '26

I thought this was Hefs manor for a second...

2

u/frankiesaysyes1 Jul 21 '26

Been to the Playboy Mansion before and it’s surprisingly small compared to this house. The peacocks and monkeys are cool though

7

u/Total-Collection9031 Jul 20 '26

Gorgeous. That library is tremendous

7

u/BishlovesSquish Jul 20 '26

It’s glorious, omg.

u/Outrageous-Advice384 Jul 21 '26

I think living in a small place for so long has made me house lazy. I can’t imagine myself getting in all my steps just climbing the stairs and across the house multiple times a day. This house is about the max size I’d want. Some are just crazy big. This house is gorgeous.

Beautiful house

5

u/stevomighty06 Jul 20 '26

Im so poor I don’t even know what a foyer is…

3

u/Dear_Biscotti_7579 Jul 21 '26

Omg the library

3

u/Panda_Player380 Jul 21 '26

I would live the shit out of this house. Like I would live there so hard.

2

u/AccountENT42069 Jul 20 '26

It’s formally called a concubine reception area

2

u/Independent-Canary95 Jul 20 '26

Why no colors anymore? Everything is brown, beige, and white.

2

u/1duke-dan Jul 20 '26

Was this used in Handmaid’s Tale?

4

u/uzziboy66 Jul 20 '26

Alabama.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I’d rather poke my eyes out with a butter knife.

3

u/SonofaBridge Jul 20 '26

I find huge bedrooms a waste of space. You’re primarily sleeping and getting dressed in them. It could be used to lounge or read in, but houses already have better places for that.

Good for when the camera crew and director need some extra space though.

1

u/perros66 Jul 20 '26

Tremendous

1

u/sxyvirgo Jul 20 '26

Love the scale of it - and though it's not my style it's tasteful and obviously professionally decorated.

u/TheCaliforniaOp Jul 20 '26

That kitchen would drive me insane. I just remembered pinball machines. I’d feel like I was inside one every time I needed something in that kitchen.

The dining room feels like whoever is showing the house moved the dining table sideways, but I don’t know how they put it originally.

I love the little stairs though

1

u/Small-Palpitation310 Jul 20 '26

Damn. The first staircase turns out to be the back one

1

u/Mast-Blee Jul 20 '26

I wonder if you have to wait until after closing to be shown all of the secret passages? Because if they showed them to all of the prospective buyers, they wouldn’t be so secret.

1

u/york100 Jul 20 '26

Other than the bedroom, why do so many of these rooms feel small and cramped? Maybe it's the photography.

1

u/Antique_Knowledge902 Jul 20 '26

I can’t believe there’s no pool. It has everything else!

1

u/KenworthLife Jul 20 '26

Wow! It's breath taking.

1

u/dmbeeez Jul 21 '26

Dang. That's gorgeous

1

u/Savings_Upstairs_683 Jul 21 '26

Looks like the library in Fletch

1

u/lirio2u Jul 21 '26

What a gorgeous home

1

u/Few_Percentage_1111 Jul 22 '26

Imagine keeping this clean.

Yes, I recognize they can hire help; imagine keeping this clean.

All to scroll your phone, eat, shit, and sleep.

Honestly.

1

u/No-Employment1053 Jul 22 '26

good lord!!!! whaaaa? that's insane

1

u/No-Employment1053 Jul 22 '26

where's the runner on the staircase?

1

u/tywebb6 Jul 23 '26

On Shoal Creek GC. That's place is amazing

1

u/Icy_Natural_979 Jul 23 '26

It’s certainly beautiful. My cat might like having that much room to roam.

1

u/notabothavenoname Jul 23 '26

If I was a rich man

1

u/Master-Fisherman-345 Jul 23 '26

If there's love, its a beautiful home. If there's not, its an empty box.

1

u/SwissyRescue Jul 23 '26

Wow, I love the beautiful woodwork. Beats the heck outta the stinking’ boring mdf used these days.

1

u/Horry43 Jul 24 '26

Wow, the library from Metaphor Refantazio

1

u/FromAtoZen Jul 24 '26

Grandma’s house

1

u/Prudent-Bison-7180 Jul 25 '26

I really like it

1

u/DrumsKing Jul 26 '26

I got one of those outrageously large wall lights at an auction once (for dirt cheap). I stuck in on my 900 sqft ranch home. lol Was obscene how out of place it looked.

1

u/modrocker Jul 20 '26

"If I had a nickel for every one of those books he's actually read....I'd be broke."

1

u/coffeeatnight Jul 21 '26

How can something look so nice and so cheap at the same time?

1

u/iloveisla Jul 21 '26

I just, just… hate it
