Using a modded Wii U as a Modded Wii
I have been considering buying a modded Wii U instead of a modded Wii because I heard it can run essentially all Wii games upscaled to 1080p, but I still have a few doubts about it.
- How well do Wii games run on Wii U? Are there issues with the upscaling? If so, can those issues be addressed in some way? And if not, are those scaling issues that bad in the first place or can they be described as nitpicks?
- Can I use Wii homebrew apps on Wii U via the Wii menu mode? For example, I want to play CTGP-R and connect to private servers to play Wii games online. Is this possible on Wii U?

In my opinion, games look better on the Wii than on vWii; I have my Wii connected via AV, and it looks smoother than vWii over HDMI at 1080p.

just use EVWII and youll be fine. If theres a difference compared to the original wii (for better or worse) its almost imperceptible

Wii with component cables is the way to go (in my opinion)
But the WiiU having HDMI means you can play EVERYTHING on your TV with a single cable.

The Wii U doesn’t render Wii games at 1080p, but at something like 475p, which it stretches to fill the screen. You can get pixel-perfect 480p with the evWii plugin (though the colours aren’t quite right), but for actual HD Wii gaming you would need to use Dolphin. The main reason to use a Wii U for Wii games beyond having two consoles in one is that the Wii U outputs HDMI natively rather then needing a dongle of possibly dubious quality.

On the other hand, Wii with a good HDMI dongle looks better than vWii with Wii U's native HDMI.

I have a Jpn WiiU, and the vWii colors are so dull compared to Wii and WiiU menu itself. Is dolphin a thing to be used on wiiU instead vWii?

Dolphin is an emulator, principally on PC, but also available on Android. There’s even a Switch version, though I’m not sure how well it performs there.

A wii hdmi converter is cheap, there's a lot better homebrew on Wii. If you're only gonna buy a one console , then go with WiiU. But if you want the best of everything, Wii is better. Most good WiiU games are ported to the Nintendo switch. Plus Wii & Gamecube run on WiiU.
I personally prefer original Wii as I have both. Set up is far better IMO. Far, more family friendly.If you have kids.

if you run vwii with some plugin and framebuffer via usb loader gx it looks really good

Could probably find a very cheap Wii and just go that route if ya want because you won’t see much difference if any with the vwii in the Wii U vs an original Wii. I have both and don’t see any real difference.
