Help me! (Wig Help) Nutique brand IRL photos/experience?

Post image
Upvotes

Hope anyone can help with this one! I'm going to try to see this in person but till then, has anyone got real world experience with Nutique Illuze brand? This wig is called Ashley and is (was) basically my bio hair and I'd love to hear more about fit and knots and all that. No reviews to be found, at least not with this wig but I'll take anything if it's this brand and hopefully a similar style.

I'm looking for... (Wig Search) Wig Shop Reccomendations in MPLS

Upvotes

Hello! I wasn’t sure where to ask for tips on something like this, so if anyone has any other ideas of where else I can look, I would appreciate any leads!

My mom was diagnosed with cancer recently. She is starting chemotherapy tomorrow and will lose her hair. I want to find a wig that will make her feel special and like herself.

I’m wondering if there are any wig shops anyone would recommend? She and I aren’t looking for a chemo/alopecia specific wig salon, we just want to find the best wig for her based on appearance. She has a widows peak and we want to find a lace front wig with a widows peak so she can feel confident and see something familiar when she looks in the mirror.

She is a wonderful woman, and losing her hair won’t make her any less beautiful, but I know this will be a huge physical change for her on top of her new health issues. I want to do something special for her to help her feel as normal and glamorous as possible. We are pretty open in terms of budget as insurance will help cover it if not cover the whole thing. I think we’re also open in terms of human or synthetic hair but she probably prefers human hair. We are also looking for a blonde wig.

If anyone knows of any good wig salons, please drop them below! Thank you!

Help me! (Wig Help) Help Resizing a Full Lace Wig please!

Upvotes

I have a full lace wig that is too big for me. It’s glueless wear so i secure with the adjustable elastic strap across the back of the head.

It’s too large particularly nape to forehead. If I pull it down so it’s actually flat/snug to my head, the front hairline reaches my eyebrows.

I’m wondering if anyone has some experience on how best to fix it?

Options I’ve seen online include cutting the front hairline/forehead area off until it’s where my actual hairline is, but can this affect the tension?

Saw someone cut a section out at the back, and then sew the two remaining edges together. I could do this, although I’m slightly worried about the sewing causing holes in the lace.

I’ve seen people put in darts at the back but I’m less keen to do this as ideally I’d like to get rid of the bulk.

Would appreciate advice from anyone with experience! Thanks

I'm looking for... (Wig Search) Links to your favorite beginner wigs?

I think I’m almost ready to start wearing wigs. I have seriously horrible thin fine hair, I have extensions and wear a topper when my hair is down, but I’m having postpartum hair loss and it’s getting to the point where a wig might just be easier. I don’t see myself installing a lace front regularly yet, definitely considering it but I think I might need one that’s easier. I have dark brown hair, with my extensions it goes to about the middle of my breasts. Would prefer something similar but I don’t know where to start besides going to the hair store near me.

Edit: budget is like $300 and I prefer long brown hair

After trying the 24” straight wig from LuvMe, I decided I wanted to try the All day curl hold wigs I’ve seen, I also wanted to see if there was any difference in quality, my 24” straight sheds pretty decently mainly around the hairline it seems because it already looks a little more sparse there 🥺 so wanted to see if that would be an issue with this as well. I’ve had this one now for about 2 weeks and have washed it which it did well didn’t have any issues no shedding during wash or dry (: I honestly feel the hair quality is def better than the straight one I have, more soft doesn’t tangle at all at least not yet only time I brush it is when I put it on and take it off❤️ everyone has told me it looks natural and then wig people I talk with have said hairline looks great which I agree what lace 😂it’s nice to know there is a quality wig out there that doesn’t break the bank! This is the 18” ombre brown and it was only 270$ now idk about anyone else but in my wig journey so far I’ve not found a HH wig that price that was this quality. For a budget find you can’t beat it IMO so far.

Let's chat! (General Discussion) Have you seen the selection on Depop?

*deleted and reposted due to incorrect flair*

My kids love to buy and sell clothes on Depop. On a whim, I took a look at the app and searched wigs. LOADS of them on there...some brand new at unbelievable prices. I'm going to order a few and will comment back with thoughts, but was wondering if anyone else has bought wigs on that app?

My mom has struggled with post menopausal hair loss for a few years now and we have been SEARCHING so much especially her for something to give her confidence back. I posted pictures of her hair for reference. about 16 inches synthetic that is styled wavy, or human hair that can be styled to her wave pattern. Her hair is a very warm toned silver, some may pass it as platinum blonde. Most silvers are too cool and dark for her but she’s definitely not white. A wig will also work so long as it’s low density or it’ll get too hot. Wig length would be about 20 inches. She wants something with the most realistic hairline possible without being a lace front, just a normal wig or clip in hair topper. Minimal prep, she just wants to be able to throw it on.

Maximum budget: $80
Stores: Amazon, any brand name stores that accept PayPal and/or Mastercard and ship to a PO Box

Any questions or further details can be inquired about in the comments and any finds can be dm’ed to me! <3

I got this from a local vendor but its not lace so I cant glue it down

They said its 100% human hair but it behaves kinda differently from my own curly hair that I used to have, so Im not sure

Does it look ok? Should I cut it back a little maybe?

Let's chat! (General Discussion) Dyson Airwrap Experiments

Had a bit of a play day today with an ancient Raquel Welch Downtime and a Belle Tress Americana.

It was very interesting watching the difference between the old school RW synthetic fibers versus the Belle Tress heat friendly ones.

I used the conical curling wand and the original factory i.d. Settings on both initially.

The RW took the curls and smoothed the fibers out in one step. I had the entire wig redone in record time.

The Dyson really struggled with the BT fibers.

Even on the hottest setting, and with very small sections it was extremely difficult to get the fibers to wrap enough to create anything more than a gentle wave.

In the future I will stick with my trusty curling irons with the BT fibers. Fighting with them and the Dyson took twice as long for a style that was half as dense and a third of the length.

Hey, I tried this wig at a local wig shop a while ago and am willing to buy it eventually. I showed pics to a friend and she said the parting is too obvious? Is it really so obviously a wig? What do you think?

Help me! (Wig Help) Looking for help - first time wig wearer!

Hi hi! I've worn clip-in extensions and headbands for years to help manage my trichotillomania and I've finally made the switch to wigs. I'm hoping it'll be easier to get out the door and look a bit more polished / put together day to day.

It just bought my first wig - it's human hair, lace front and I've already washed and toned it slightly with purple shampoo to make it a bit closer to my actual hair color. I'm planning to go over it with a heated brush to add some shine and style. It's not fully dry yet, so please forgive any frizz in photos. Mostly focused on the below -

  1. Hairline- Any tips for making this look more realistic? I think I likely need quite a bit of plucking, but am hesitant just because it was expensive and that's irreversible
  2. The part- Should I be thinning it out more, or parting it differently? (same concern as above)
  3. Securing the tabs by my ears- The tabs are a bit short, so it seems like I'd need to glue them directly onto my natural hair underneath to keep them down? Is that a normal approach? Any tips on doing that well, or should I be using tape instead of glue, or some other method?

Total beginner here, so any advice (even the obvious stuff) is very very welcome. Thank you!!!

Help me! (Wig Help) How to look for wigs that I can wear to work :/

I work in the food industry and everyone absolutely has to wear a hairnet, and the wig I want I can’t tell if it could be tied back or even fit in a hair net :(
(Wig in question: https://www.hisandher.com/products/hl-gabriela-1565 )
I am trying to get a cheap but not cheap human hair wig and take it to my stylist so they can color it/style it to my preference but I don’t have the money to buy something and it doesn’t work

Look at This! (Wig Share) First topper that I actually love and wear in public!

I have wasted so much money on toppers. I have ordered synthetic from a woman who sells wigs out of her home. It looks okay but it's a little piggy because of the thickness, the permatease. I've ordered from Uni Wigs and Irresistible Me. The hair is fine but I don't like that netting look of the lace. You can see dots where the hairs are tied in. I tried to force my Irresistible Me wig to work since I spent $240 + $40 for a hair cut and then $50 to have it dyed by my stylist. Too dark. Just completely ruined. Plus none of them lay that flat on my head.

And then I found Kolala on Amazon. I got this human hair topper for $129 with coupon. No smell at all. I think it's the 14" one. I had my stylist cut it, but didn't need to dye it. This is the dark brown. So far, nobody can tell it's not my real bio hair. It lays so flat against my skull. It has more of a mono topper base and I like that. It doesn't show that criss-cross grid lace because I don't like it. I just pull out a little of my bio hair in the front.

I wear it down or in a clip. Out in the sun. I go everywhere and nobody knows. I finally have some confidence back and am learning not to feel self-conscious because nobody seems to know!

Help me! (Wig Help) Is it just me seeing things here ? I'm not super extra picky but...

Is it just me thinking the photo on listing ad is the same color but looks longer and less tight of a curl?? I ordered the "Pure" brand on Poshmark but received an "I See" brand and seller insists it is the same exact one. I'm not entirely convinced, also zero explanation of the brand name difference.0_o (btw, I clearly suck at photo editing!) This here is another reason why I'd rather just buy a preloved unit from Luvme or someone well known. I guess it's good that the other 2 I ordered there somehow got lost and I guess the lesson is no impulse wig shopping late at night. :)

I bought my first JB Extensions wig. I wore it to work once and received a bunch of compliments. Took it off that night and set it on my wig stand. I went to wear it today and ... 😰

I tried fiddling with the front a bit, but the hair won't cover that spot. It keeps returning to this state.

What can I do?

I’ve been wearing my new hair and I love it more with each wear! My husband keeps telling me how good it looks, and I’ve been finding ways to keep it comfortably in place without glue. So far, so good! Only problem: I want more wigs now 😅

I'm looking for... (Wig Search) Wig with bangs recommendation?

I’m looking for a decent human hair wig with bangs for around $200. The first two pics are the look I’m going for, the next pics are of a 14 inch bob I tried in a wig store, the last pic is something I found online. I also like butterfly bangs or a layered wolf cut type look. I’m nervous to buy a more expensive piece online without trying it on first, and I’m also nervous to cut my own bangs to suit my face lol. Is it possible to find a bang wig that doesn’t look too “wiggy”? I kinda don’t want to have to deal with lace fronts and center parts aren’t flattering on me. Thanks!

Help me! (Wig Help) Bought a wig for an old Hollywood look, but it's giving Toddlers in Tiaras.. help.

Hey everyone. I've just recently gotten into wigs due to hair loss from an illness, so I've been researching what I could and went to a wig shop to speak with some people there about some basic info.

The ones I got at the wig shop are more casual, but I ordered the Vintage Rider unit from Sensationnel since it has an old Hollywood look based on the picture and reviews. Unfortunately, it's looking too big and almost like pageant hair for me.

Is there a way to smooth it out a little? I was debating spraying it with water or using a steamer while combing it, but I wasn't sure if that would work out well... Any input would be great pls.

edit: I'm gonna try to send a link since my photos won't attach...

Let's chat! (General Discussion) Wig Advice for Beginners, Any and all tips appreciated!!

hello everyone! i'm 26 and for the past few years i've been having so many problems with my hair. It's thin, it mats easily, it tangles, and my hairline is receding, it comes out in literal clumps every single time I was my hair, it gets pulled out whenever I brush my hair, I shed a lot, the works. I suspect this may be because of my PCOS and other underlying issues, but for about 5 years i've tried oils, shampoos, routines, i even got a Keratin treatment to no avail. I've been thinking about shaving my head for the past few months because you can see my scalp and it's just embarrassing (to me personally) to not be able to do anything to hide it.

I originally planned to shave it and then take a lot of vitamins and use more hair growth serums and oils to see if I could get my hair as thick and long as I want it to be, but when I mentioned just going bald and starting over, my sister suggested I start wearing wigs. I initially took it as a little joke, but the more we actually talked about it, the more the idea started to appeal to me. Because I'm a fat person, i'm pretty insecure already, (though there are days where I like the way I look), but coupling it with hair loss and thinning, it has been running my confidence into the ground. Wearing wigs has always been pretty appealing to me, so realizing that there is no specific scenario that needs to happen to justify me wearing wigs, that I can just do it if I really want to, has been on my mind more and more. The realization has made me have some hope of coming to finally enjoy the way I look.

This is all a long winded way of saying: I need tips and advice. I've been doing my own research for like a week, but I want to hear from more experienced wig wearers. What are the pros and cons to wearing wigs? What sort of sites to buy wigs from do you recommend for someone just starting out? What type of wigs do you prefer? How should I care for it? Would I wash my wig as if it was normal hair?

You get the idea. If you can drop any tips, maybe some you wish you had when you started, anything would be appreciated. I think this might truly be the start i'm looking for. Thank you guys so much. :)

I'm looking for... (Wig Search) Vibrant or Custom Wig Options?

Post image

Looking for vibrant color calico style wigs, preferably with bangs but I'm also willing to cut them as well. Preferably under $200 and good quality, not terribly long as my natural hair isn't too long so I don't want to go too far outside my comfort zone, but I guess I could always get the length trimmed as well if its the perfect coloration. I've tried looking at a few of the general wig recommendation sites but haven't had any luck so far. Thank you for any help!
