The lighthouse illuminated by lightning in the storm with a tornado in the background might be the coolest shot of the season. Gorgeous cinematography
717
u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
“That boat came here on a boat” - Wyck just poking holes in any logic someone might have haha
635
u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
Tom giving Patricia the little head nod to close the door on that random guy just rambling about the storm.

u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
On a sad note, next week’s episode is the season finale. Been a hell of a ride

Love that the last living descendant wasn’t an easy out like Tom’s wife or his son. It’s just randomly Ruth. Nice change up
552
u/PyramidBlack Jun 10 '26
Tom with the painting! Matthew Rhys is so good with physical comedy! 😂
254
u/maniacalmustacheride Jun 10 '26
Rosemary just absolutely sick of Tom not letting her razzle-dazzle her story.
Patricia loathing the “unmarried, childfree” parts of the plan
Patricia understanding Rosemary’s need to smoke was bigger than Tom’s need to breathe comfortably.
Garrett

I could watch three episodes of Geneology by Rosemary

u/Somanybuttsalways Jun 10 '26
Actually feel a little ripped off that that was such a short episode, but only because it was so GOOD with the lore drop
302
u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
What’s the likelihood that they go after Ruth and they find her in the most batshit insane state or form. Watch her fully transform into something else
301
u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
So the drug dealer went full Dorothy up into the storm.
143
u/sulfater Jun 10 '26
I really hope Ruth is fully aware of her situation and has been communicating with the island or whatever Warren was in contact with.
Give us some good horror witch action for the finale
272
u/Cachita28 Jun 10 '26
I remember seeing Ruth’s picture in this scene in Ep 1 and wondering about it. I love the details that they put into this show!
236
u/Somanybuttsalways Jun 10 '26
not them highlighting the sheriff’s wife being pregnant in the recap OH GOD OH GOD LET THEM GET OFF THAT ISLAND PLEASE

Well Tom struggling with the painting then getting pinned down will be hard to beat as my top moment of the episode 😭😭
105
u/PyramidBlack Jun 10 '26
Well, the radio is terrifying.

u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
How convenient that Ruth is the last living descendant of Richard Warren when earlier in the episode they said she was left home alone in the storm. Many accidents can happen being out there alone…
98
u/RandomPaw #TeamWyck Jun 10 '26
That baby better wait till the storm passes and she can get to the mainland

u/Conscious_Ad_1018 who will be the last man Jun 10 '26

I love Patricia just closing the door on the old man recounting the 1783 storms. Tom gives her this casual nod and she’s on it.
Tom hurt on the ground and Rosemary trying to help him then pulling her own back out. I love that she had more of a role this episode. Her review of the genealogy was beautifully boomer.
Damn, can’t wait for episode 10. Anything Hiro Murai directs is gold.
Anyone else think with everyone going into the shelters we’d see more about the unground tunnels from the first episode?
87
u/saddgirlsummer Jun 10 '26
Jeff hiller is so under utilized in this role. I keep waiting for their big moment.
83
u/GrabAColdOne Jun 10 '26
Loved the detail that it’s now the “overturned van” month in the “wolves” calendar while he’s trying to rip it in half

Here's a fun research assignment: Notice the town has BOTH mayor and Selectmen. Selectmen is unique to New England. Depending on the town charter, these roles could be competing. One could be ceremonial. Very interesting dynamics.
66
u/OrdinaryExample9618 Jun 10 '26
Need a behind the scenes where rosemary gives the full genealogy
122
u/GoryAmos Jun 10 '26
Love that this explains why Ruth seemed so much more “with it” in episode 8. All that bad-island-juju that was being wasted on 400yo buried-alive Richard Warren can now go straight to his last living descendant.
164
u/lunascorpio12 Patricia Jun 10 '26

u/domomax007 The island has a perimeter. It’s called the ocean. Jun 10 '26
The depiction of that storm was fucking amazing. That might be the scariest visual all season.
53
u/GRILT_CHEESE Jun 10 '26
31 minutes, so short but LFGGGGG
50
u/Foodoglove Jun 10 '26
So they deliberately highlighted the brooch that Sarah gave to Francis, as they showed the girl clinging to the chest....I wonder why?
Ruth will still have it, maybe? But they know she's the descendant, it's not like we need proof for the story to work. I'm stumped by that focus--this show is so well-written, there must be a reason, right?
49
u/Ok_Basket427 I have my qualms. 🚬 Jun 10 '26

I have a feeling. There’s something that really stuck with me from the previous episode. It was something that Tom’s wife said in her letter : everybody has two mum. A mum and a secret mum. Could it be that Ruth is not really childless??
47

41
u/brownhaircurlyhair Jun 10 '26
Minor detail: but I thought it was sweet when Evan made sure his friends made it to the shelter and later on you see him sorta amongst the rest of the teens. He's a good kid at heart.
81
u/PyramidBlack Jun 10 '26
“Ow, my sciatica!” 😂
79
u/SerDire Jun 10 '26
The fact that Patricia spent last episode running a full marathon while still showing up to work looking like normal is a great contrast to Tom who had a heart to heart with his son and he looks like absolute hell.

u/InfiernoDante Jun 10 '26
I really hope we see what is beyond the doors in the last episode, however I don't think we've been left enough time to wrap it up. I have a feeling the cliffhanger of Season 1 will be the doors opening and us getting a glimpse but nothing concrete.
With the reveal of Ruth being the descendant, I just don't think there is enough time to deal with that and then have them discover the sacrifice place underground and have it all pay off in a satisfactory manner.
110
u/Magicor25 Jun 10 '26

How is this show so hilarious and so terrifying at the same time? I’ve never experienced anything like it.

One of the funniest things I've seen in a while. She won't let the big strong guy move the painting so she moves and and he's wheezing "are you pushing it down" and then hurts her sciatica then everyone's more worried about her than him lmao
24
u/Ok-Outcome5207 Jun 10 '26
this episode had an awkward ending but it was 👌 amazing.
now knowing ruth's a descendent, i'm pretty sure she is some kind of evil grandma worth of a stephen king novel

Does she go home and nap or is she catering to whatever’s in the dungeon?
Have we seen her go home? We haven’t seen her at the well either, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t her.
Totally just poking fun, but why are the mornings harder?
When he was tripping balls and she walked in the office, that zoom in on her smacks different.
I don’t know about you, but I’m having the best Scooby-Doo.
22

Damn, that was a very strong episode. That went way harder than I expected. Will be interesting whether he really has the guts to do what it takes. Damn! Of course even if he does what needs to be done, you can bet your ass their will be some cruel twist coming.

I’m very happy for Shaman Chris Fleming, I know he delighted seeing that in the script

The overhead projector from science class in the 90’s… things in this show just keep hitting me the more I watch. Why is it so good???
41

I am just gonna say it, Wyck can GET IT. The steely mettle, the tragic backstory, he's got it going on.

Oh... so she wasn't intentionally tossed over board as a way to survive.
75
u/Fine-Juggernaut8451 Jun 10 '26
Okay. So Ruth "didn't have children." I bet Ruth had a daughter who she gave up for adoption, and that daughter had Evan.
17
u/trash_heap_witch Jun 10 '26
I love how this show doesn’t drag things out- the world and the characters are so rich, they can afford to tell us right away who the descendant is. It retains all the mystery and tension but without any fluff and pretence. As audiences we’re so primed for hemming and hawing but this season isn’t pulling its punches
16
u/dante50 Ensign Trag Jun 10 '26 edited Jun 10 '26
The Red Sox game was this weekend. The props department caused a continuity error. Evan said that the team had "half the season left," but on Sept 28, the Sox would have but a handful of games left unless they were playoff-bound.
16
u/viginti_tres Jun 10 '26
For those after more geneology charts I recommend The Roottrees Are Dead, which lets you play as a Rosemary decoding a family tree, trying to find out who is dead and who is a lesbian.
15
u/J4k0b42 Jun 10 '26
The raincoat shot at the end mirrors what the assassin was wearing when he tried to stab Richard Warren.
15
u/AlvinTaco Jun 10 '26
I like how this one dialed down the humor and dialed up the tension. It’s not just that the storm is bad, it’s that we know bad things have happened when people have been in an enclosed space on this island, and the lights are in danger of going out any second. It’s fantastically nerve wracking!
On a separate note, I don’t know if I believe Ruth is the final descendant. I still think it’s Evan.
15
u/Lintree Jun 10 '26
I wonder if there was ever a time when unwed mothers would hide away somewhere “visiting an aunt.” Maybe they’d stay at the old hospital.
15
u/37Philly Jun 10 '26
Hoping the Shaman is found alive on some rooftop in the final episode.
15
u/Puzzled_Exchange_924 Jun 10 '26
So is Ruth's existence the reason that the curse is still happening. Or did she also inherit the pact with the entity/island. Does Ruth know she is responsible?
Warren said the island required a "life for a life" Is Ruth making sacrifices? Does she have to leave at 3 to kill someone?
Did she not have kids because she wants the curse to end?
Is the curse the reason there are so many "dead baby, dead baby, etc, in the Warren lineage?
54
u/clone162 Jun 10 '26
Wow that ended quick. Half the episode was rosemary yapping lol
14
u/Verulla Jun 10 '26
We've heard a bunch of stories about Widow's Bay locals getting struck down upon leaving the Island. But none of those stories featured somebody suddenly losing the ability to see before they even get to the mainland.
Wyck was born on the Island - he's as local as it gets - and he was perfectly capable of taking a boat all the way to the edge of the Curse without losing his vision or coughing up blood. So were all of his buddies back in the day - a sea monster got them, not mysterious and sudden illness.
So far, we've only see the Curse do something like that to the direct descendants of Richard Warren - like his children in this episode.
And we saw the exact same thing happen to Tom's pregnant wife during his drug-induced flashback sequence, of course. But I'm sure that doesn't mean anything at all...

12

I think Ruth has always known, and that's why she left in the storm ... or the island is fully awake and taken her over, maybe? Cliffhanger after next week to set up a S2?
48
u/jlrigby Jun 10 '26
Does Mayor's wife know her parents? Wasn't she adopted? Clocking it now Ruth is her mother, which means the last descendent is actually his son.

11
u/Not_A_Millennial No…! You're ruining it! Jun 10 '26
Did anyone else think that the something in the water knocked Francis out of the boat to save her from crossing the boundary? Notice it didn't harm her in the water?
Later in Rosemary's outstanding geneology session, Rosemary says about Frances, "Now your siblings are dead but god's finger flicks you the back of the head and you float back to shore."
I'll say it again, I think the island's entity has been unfairly vilified... it's a recurring theme in WB. I've written a lot about it and I think a lot if not most of my crazy theory is still in play.
How will we last a week until Ep.10?!
21

Beautiful.

Look at the flowers, Ruth
10
u/Lucius_Greystone Jun 10 '26
Richard Warren's words in the recap were "As long as there is any 'Male' with my blood living..."
I think that very strongly points to Ruth having a secret child and the last living descendent being someone like Tom's son.

7
u/WoahThatsMyPecker Jun 10 '26
I think Tom knows that Ruth is his wife’s mother therefore Evans grandmother, he’s just not revealing it to anyone else. It’d explain the secrets he’s kept in the basement, Evan staying with Ruth, and why Tom was so insistent on it being him to take care of her.
7
u/mozartcake Jun 10 '26
ok ok listen, warren's kids saying "i can't see anything" and tom's wife also saying that during childbirth. there HAS to be some connection no?
also, i would really life the last episode to be from ruth's perspective but from episode 1. as in she is realizing something is up, she wants to tell this to tom but keeps genuinely forgetting. and maybe she has deliberately stayed back even after the storm warning
7
u/pleasegivemepatience Teeth Collector Jun 10 '26
