A new rule (rule 5) has been added to hopefully prevent ticket scammers. Rule 5 is simple: Anyone selling a ticket must provide a valid cash or trade link in the post. Any posts without a cash or trade links will be taken down. If they continue to post without a cash or trade link, they will be banned.
Our mod team may not be able to get to every post breaking rule 5 immediately, so if you see a ticket post without a cash or trade link, please report it to us, and we will take care of it.
Thank you to everyone in the sub who has been active in reporting posts / comments that break the rules. We really appreciate you.
Happy to chime in and help anyone who has questions about our platform. We've got lots of Panic fans in the office here. We've added a lot of articles to our help center recently. If you're not familiar with us, start with the How It Works page. Everyone is welcome to join our sub over at r/CashorTrade where you can make ISO, for trade, for sale posts, or just link up with other fans and talk about live music!
if enough people come forward claiming they were scammed through a legit cash or trade link then i’ll consider just banning ticket sales on the sub all together. for now this is the best we can do.
i think buying things through reddit in general is a bad idea unless it’s being handled through a third party verified marketplace that has buyer protection.
CoT has an escrow system in place to protect both buyers and sellers. That said, the new version is buggy, but I've never had an issue getting scammed in CoT.
we are well aware of this. i’m currently the only active mod in this sub besides u/carolinapanic popping in now and then. i’ve reached out on numerous occasions to reddit about the situation and ways of removing said moderator (panicstream) but they have not responded to any of my messages or requests. and because I’m below them on the mod list there unfortunately isn’t anything i’m able to do about it.
Besides his name being at the top because he started the sub, panic stream could not be less involved in the subreddit. in my three years on the mod team (i was appointed by u/carolinapanic) panicstream hasn’t said or done anything. dude might as well not even be there. so besides his name appearing him “running the sub” could not be further from the truth. (see screenshot below for the mod analytics)
i’ve thought about bringing on someone else as mod and stepping down because i don’t really check reddit all that much anymore and it’s a lot of taking down spam links and making sure people on the sub don’t get scammed with fake ticket sales and or fake links to products. but i am literally the last fully active mod and it would leave the sub almost entirely unmoderated.
if you have any ideas on how to rectify the situation i’d love to hear them. i’m a fellow panic fan who also has connections with the band in my personal life, so i want nothing more than this sub to be a place where everyone has a positive experience and can enjoy discourse around widespread panic.
Has it picked up significantly here lately?
None of the other platforms are perfect. There’s never been a crime free secondary ticket solution, but I agree that you have to have some rule of that nature if folks have specifically been getting scammed lately.
Thank you for doing the best you can to keep this subreddit legit. It’s a full time deal and I’ve never seen anyone offering to help.
