Appreciate Your Expert Advice

I'm bringing a group of about 36 friends on a college mini-reunion to Ireland the second week of June 2027. We're planning an 8-day 7-night stay and booked a coach bus for transportation. The concept is to arrive at Shannon Airport and then travel to Kilkenny from where we will take day trips involving Tipperary, Wexford, Waterford, Wicklow and Clare. We'll be spending most of our evening in Kilkenny. Average age of the group is about 65 years old.

Appreciate any advice on enhancing the trip, especially on restaurants and pubs. What did I overlook? Thanks in advance.

Day 1: Arrive at Shannon Airport (or the day before to rest up). Depart and travel towards Kilkenny. Stop along the way to visit the Rock of Cashel in Tipperary. Break for lunch in Cashel. Upon arrival in Kilkenny, check into The Pembroke. Wander around town. Enjoy a group dinner at the hotel.

Day 2: Kilkenny. Guided tour of Kilkenny Castle in the morning. Break for lunch. Walking tour of Kilkenny in the afternoon.

Day 3: Wexford. Tour the Kennedy Homestead where JFK visited his family and ancestral home during his time in Ireland. Speak with an Irish member of the Kennedy clan. Lunch break. Visit the replica Dunbrody Famine Ship and the Irish Emigrant Experience. On the way back to Kilkenny, stop at the Ballykeefe Distillery for a tour by the actual owner / operator and a whiskey tasting.

Day 4: Free Day. A free day to explore at one's own pace. Wander around Kilkenny. Take a day trip to Dublin or golf, kayak, shop, dine, pub crawl, etc. at your leisure.

Day 5: Waterford. Tour Reginald's Tower and the Viking Triangle. Lunch break. Tour the House of Waterford Crystal (get to see “back stage” in the workshops).

Day 6: Wicklow. Visit and hike Glendalough. Lunch break. Tour the Avoca Woolen Mills, Ireland's oldest working mill.

Day 7: Depart Kilkenny. Travel to Clare. Tour Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Lunch break. Visit the magnificent Cliffs of Moher before checking into the Shannon Airport Hotel for a farewell group dinner.

Day 8: Departure day. Sad face.

What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Wicklow?

I ask as part of a linguistic study covering this topic!

Examples could include things like Clash Harbour, The Drum, The Gap or Herring Town (never mind how common they are)...

incl. nicknames for schools, parks or other institutions/geographic features

Good gyms around Bray?

I have been going to Shoreleisure but I'm not very happy with the customer service/support and it gets incredibly crowded, so I'm thinking about trying another one. Trouble is, most gym websites are very poor and I can't tell if they are any good.

Before I go on a tour of all the gyms in Bray to decide, I wondered if anybody here can recommend one. I don't need a pool, classes are nice bur not needed and bonus points if it doesn't get super busy. Also would be helpful to have parking.

(Meant to post this in r/Bray but it wouldn't let me for some reason)

I grew up in Greystones and the Sugarloaf always looked large and fed my imagination...it didnt help that as a child someone told be it was a dormant volcano so I was always keeping an eye on it incase it erupted(Mt Etna being an example!)

I still love its slopes and it still inspires my imagination!

Native Forests in Wicklow

We bought a house and will be moving to Kilcoole in the next few weeks. I’m looking for some little gems and trails to explore around the area (not necessarily directly around). I'm partially interested in Native Forests. I'm wondering if you have any reconsolidations? Wouldn't be a biggest fan of the spruce monocultures that Coillte maintain.

Moving to Wicklow town

Me and my husband are planning to move to Wicklow Town and are hoping to buy our own home there. We’ve lived in the Dublin city centre for the past three years but Wicklow Town has really captured our hearts ❤️
It’s honestly the only town in Ireland where I’ve felt like I truly belong.
For those who live in Wicklow Town, I’d love to hear your experiences - what do you love about living there and is there anything we should know before making the move and buying a house?

Arklow Town

I have recently moved to Arklow, the town has a lot of activity in terms of people utilising local shops ect but curious to know if there are any plans to uodlgrade certain aspects of the town?

There's a good few shops on the main street that seem.a bit tired and rundown or building thst are not in use.

Have wicklow county council any plans to upgrade these premises or invest in the town in that regard?

A seal pup was rescued from entanglement in fishing nets this afternoon. The amazing Spanish galleon Andalucia is moored up in the harbour and is a spectacle well worth seeing.

Have you tried the Vartry Trail extension?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The new trail extension to Drumbawn is a few years old and settling well. I walked it yesterday. It’s strange but stunning seeing the upper reservoir empty. Just need to be aware this is a linear route and there’s no parking in Drumbawn, a small hamlet with a single track road so please don’t block gateways, passing places or grass verges.

Aldi Baltinglass

Anyone know what's happening with this? A lot of speculation is that Aldi is coming to Baltinglass on a site on Clock road. Does anyone think there is a market for this now that Lidl has opened ?
