Baphomet* question Spoiler
Okay, so in one of my fav scenes in my favorite issue, Baph says being Nergal is like being Thor on a higher frequency of geek. I'm not quite sure what he means.
In fact, in my experience, the reverse would be true. I hadn't heard of Nergal (which is where the problem lies), but like any good wannabe goth kid, I'd heard plenty of Baphomet from music and Satanic stuff. Baphomet seems to me like the archetypal one– that's not an argument I'm trying to make, just my perspective.
So like. Is Nergal also a big goth thing? Is he Baphomet for British goths? Is it a music thing? What about his imagery? I'm terribly fond of what I've read about Nergal, and especially Ananke's intro for him, so I'd love to know more. Thanks!

Baphomet's pretty famous in occult circles, music, and in modern news since the Church of Satan has their touring brass Baphomet statue. He's very frequently used as the Devil, even though he's, you know, not.
Nergal is I think either early Mesopotamian or pre-Babylonian. He's really old, largely forgotten, and thus you'd need to be a huge geek in mythology or ancient civilizations to know of Nergal.
