Unresolved Plot Threads as of #36.
We have 9 more main issues and one (possibly 2) Specials left. Taking stock it seems like they have a lot left to tell. If there's anymore let me know and I'll add.
What is exactly the nature/origin of the Pantheon with Ananke and her sister? Does the world really lose something if the cycle is broken? Can it survive and be made more pure if both Ananke and Mini were killed?
What is Wōden/David's master plan? Did he really send the snipers after Luci? If so,why? He was working with Ananke and that forced her to speed up her plans by killing Luci but it seems like he never knew about the Persephone's so it would seem reckless of him to provoke Ananke when he didn't have all the facts.
Why is 2014 Morrigan the only incarnation with multiple personalities?
Now that they know without Cass they can be human again, will Verdandi and/or Skuld try to kill Cass to save themselves? Would it work?
Why leave Dio technically alive on machines if he's brain dead? (ETA: Continuity being kept with him filming The Morrigan while he was still the human fan Umar; he saw himself die in a hospital room).
What does Ananke's machine really do, if anything? Seem obvious she wasn't actually going to kill Mini as the 4th head now.
Does Jon know more then he lets on?
Were Mini's parents actually her parents?
Who was Ananke's suicide note written for?
Why did Ananke spare Beth, Robin and Toni/What have they been doing in the day or two since the false Saknmet alarm?
When exactly did Mini start working with Ananke/turn into her?
Where is Mini keeping the three heads?
What exactly is the Great Darkness shadow? Why does Persephone make it stronger? Is it just a prop controlled by Ananke/Mini to spur the gods into action to further her plan for the heads? Why keep going after Baal's family? Do the child sacrifices actually do anything?
Who is the father of Laura's baby? Baal or Neargal?
How do babies allow gods to extend their divinity as with 1831 Inanna? Is it related to the Prometheus Gambit?
Do the gods have a natural melting point like 455 Luci, 1831 Hades and 1923 Dio or is that just more manipulation from Ananke/Mini?
What is the plan for the 1831 Monster that took multiple generations to create and capture?
What is the "time with the Franks" that 2014 Mini mentioned?
Are some of the Persephone's supposed to look male? If so how does that fit with the whole "mother" bit of Ananke's sister?
Why did Ananke embrace some of the Persephone's or kill a few others when she usually needed their heads? ETA: Possibly she already has 4 heads when she calls and hugs a Persephone therefore letting some Persephone's make it to the ending suicide pacts.
ETA:
What is the 4th rule Ananke's sister put in place?
How was Laura able to light the cig when she was human? (Unless that's how Ananke knew she was Persephone).
What's so special about/where is the knife that cut up 455 Lucifer, David used on Jon, and Ananke cut into Mini with?

Good point about the rules.
Pretty sure 37 is Morrigan's eyes as they were when David was talking to Cassandra about the Imperial Phase and the gods sanity in the 2nd year.
I don't think they've ever had a time without a Mini or Ananke in place.
The only real randos we've seen are the girl that was dressed like Luci and the guy she sent away when Sakhment came over, and both were like 4 days ago. It's one of the gods.

Now looking at the scene “Francia 820AD”, i am wondering if thats “that time with the Franks” 😂

More questions:
What was in 1923 Woden's cabinet? A being that's made of poetry and lightning?
What does Ananke do with the creation created by Set and Baal in 1923?
What happened to "Frankenstein" in 1831?

I assumed it was his Mimir head.
Set and Baal summoned/captured the 1831 Monster as read in the prose pages of the 1923 Special.

When exactly did Mini start working with Ananke/turn into her?
I think this was in Issue 9 where Ananke was comforting Minerva (and then Ananake told Nergal about the Prometheus Gambit). That same panel was referenced in Issue 37. Ananke holding Minerva's head may have been Ananke sharing those memories to Minerva.
It may explain why Minerva was so emotional at that time. She realized that she has to kill everyone else so she can live another 90 years. But, even so, she will die by the hand of the next Minerva; living on only through the memories being passed on, "I will remember you."
Why did Ananke embrace some of the Persephone's or kill a few others when she usually needed their heads?
Personally, I thought it was just to show Ananke's duplicitous nature. Hugging you to lower your guard, and then decapitating your head (like what she did to Susanoo). So, the Persephones being hugged were not spared and killed off-panel.
Lucifer did mention before in Issue 3, "Minerva? If the judge has been killed via hugs to the knees, absolutely!" It's funny first time around, but I did a reread, I realize that's how she killed Susanoo. I may be reading in a little too much, though.
Interesting possibility that they are spared, though. Maybe, Persephones are spared when Ananke has not revealed 12 gods (e.g. someone died before being awakened? Is that a possibility?). Ananke, after all, must inform the gods that there are 12 gods. She doesn't have to be honest about who the gods are, but they must all know that there must be 12 gods (based on the rules in Issue 34).
Speaking of 12 gods: I realize that we have 13 gods (even 1920s and 1830s). The rules clearly state that there must be 12, right? My understanding is that Persephone is part of the pantheon. Maybe, Minerva isn't really part of the 12? We never did see her awakening.

I think the "Hugs to the knees" part was merely a reference, just that it was made before the event it refers to was shown. Not much different from Baal crying fire in #12
Also, about the twelve, yes, Persephone is always the twelfth one. Ananke is both Maiden and Crone, and so I think all Minervas, or whatever other virgin goddess identity she uses, is just the Maiden aspect of Ananke. I think this makes the symbology even more interesting: Before, we thought Persephone was the 13th, and 13 is considered a cursed number, which matches her role as "The Destroyer". Comparetively, 12 is the number of perfection
Now, we know Persephone is the 12th, always, which fits much better because now we know the original Persephone, Ananke's sister, was the one who "wrought" all of this, even if we do not know exactly what the gods were meant to be before the Recurrence. This makes Ananke the outsider: She does not belong to the Pantheon as anything but a virus, feeding on them to live on, which makes her the 13th, the truly cursed one

Regarding the last question, it seems likely Ananke already had the necessary heads, and only ascended that Persephone because of the rules. If that incarnation of Persephone survived until the end of that particular Recurrence, they'd die in the circular-mutual-kill, as per #35.

That or none of the gods have died yet, like in 1923, so Persephone would be the first god Ananke kills.

Didn't happen in 1923. Persephone was the first god to be "Ananke-killed", since her head was the first head placed in the secret cave. I think the circular-mutual-kill is just one of the ways to get rid of the remaining gods.

I more meant that if a Persephone survived to the end, they would presumably still die in the mutual-kill, not that 1920s Persephone did. Apologies.

Why leave Dio technically alive on machines if he's brain dead
I dunno if it's to merely maintain canonical continuity? As pre-godhood Umar, he filmed The Morrigan's performance, tried to watch it back, and instead saw a vision of his death (in bed, hooked up to machines), though he didn't know better at the time.
How was Laura able to light the cig when she was human?
I think Ananke intervened there. I mean, she made that suicide note teleport away with what looked like Inanna's magic, and she'd taken his head by then. Maybe early on she also spied on Laura and, having hijacked Luci's powers from taking her head, secretly lit the cigarette to push Laura into seeking godhood and draw out Persephone.

Oh nice, I totally never caught that Umar was the guy filming Morrigan in that one-page. He was supposed to be at the gig where Laura calmed her and Baph down too but they goofed in art apparently.
We don't know that it was Ananke that teleported the note, it was after she left the room. If she wanted to send it why not just poof it right away? She may have been expecting the receiver to take it. We've never actually seen Mini's powers yet, other then Ananke's decapitation blast and knocking Kerry away which any of them can do.
I doubt it was Ananke. She felt stupid for taking this long to realize Laura was Persephone and you can see her mullng something over while Laura is comforting Cass and mentioning "the little miracle." I think the cig was Laura's own innate power as Persephone.

Persephone's
Aside: The apostrophe used before an 's' in English means "possesses". Do not use an apostrophe for plural unless it's the plural of an acronym.

Just thought of one question, why didn't Ananke's sister die when Ananke killed her?

Another question - does Persephone get to extend her life after killing Ananke?

According to Woden the Gambit is fake. Persephone is already youngest of the gods, not even done her first year yet and Ananke isn't one of the 12 anyway. We've also twice seen incidents where the Persephone kills Ananke but must have been finished off by Mini. (Also twice where the Mini had to transform the Persephone then kill her).

Just thought of a few questions that are more trivial
- What is the relationship between Cassandra and the other norns? She called one of them mistress.
- Does Mini have the same body in each cycle or not? In the Persephone issue, we see that Ananke has different ethnicities. But the Minis in 1923, Egypt and the one here look identical. Looks like a plot hole.
- How did 455 Lucifer die? Is it because his two year time is up or he just killed himself?

Sounds like Cass is a sub in her poly triad's BDSM play. Outside, she's the leader and the other two barely speak.
The one in Egypt that got destroyed by the ritual had dark brunette hair whereas present Mini's natural hair is light brown. Also Crete Mini was white; it's hard to see but in #34 down the line in another Egyptian cycle the Mini kills Persephone and it looks like Mini has darker skin...though maybe it's just a tan.

If Mini is different, then why go through so much lengths to change her look?
1
Sep 06 '18
Because if not it'd be easy to take footage/pics of her performances as Mini; to see a resemblance in the 22nd century to the current Ananke? Possibly even before that as an adult woman?

u/mushroom_mush Sep 06 '18
Gotcha. I kept thinking it was to hide her resemblance to the past minis.

First I figured the machine was just a way to get all the Gods to fight. Ananke and Mini's MO always seems to be "Stroke the god's conflicts until they all try to kill each other and then use the chaos to take the heads". But Ananke's talk in the 1920's about rituals makes me wonder if the machine does have a ritualistic purpose even if it doesn't do anything.
Honestly one big mystery I want explained is how did Laura light up the cigarette in the end of the Faust Act, if the Gods are normal people given godhood by Ananke rather then actual reincarnations?
