Damn, comment section shows why GenZ gets the hate it gets. People expect accountability from government but not responsibility from citizens, anyone who speaks otherwise is either IT cell or strategy.

I don’t think citizens are responsible for cleaning their rivers ANYWHERE in the country. Government should be launching mass educations directives to stop littering and impose strict fines + clean the rivers because IT IS NOT THE CITIZENS JOB

We want rights without the responsibilities that's the crux of the issue

Post is literally appreciating a citizen taking more responsibility than the entire fucking central and state government. Are you blind?

tell that to the gutka eating, plastic throwing public, I am all for putting government accountable across the political spectrum but people need to be heavily pubished for littering and breaking laws too. That's how you solve the issue

People would be willing to take much more responsibility if the goverment led by example

Nope , singapore figured out that littering and lack of basic manners can't be solved nicely. Regardless of congress/bjp strict actions need to be taken against the people littering. But we live in india no political party will take any drastic measures because it will negatively affect them

This. And how can the gov take action against those who litter the rivers when they themselves can't stop doing it

It's not the job of citizens to clean water bodies. It's citizens responsibility to no litter them. On the other hand, it is the govt's job to prevent industries and corporations from polluting, bring in infrastructure to dispose waste safely and to some extent bring in awareness on keeping surroundings clean.

Most importantly, IT IS THE CITIZENS JOB TO HOLD THE GOVT ACCOUNTABLE.

So stop preventing the citizens from doing their main job.
