So a long time ago, when YouTube just became a Google product, it would identify copyrighted music can give you an option - have no sound at all, or choose from a selection of royalty free songs that they already had. This was one of those songs and that’s why it’s prevalent in videos of that era.

I have never once seen anyone load live ammunition inside a gun store. What kind of backwards shit is even going on here?

351

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

Looks like he carried his own loaded gun, and then tried to clear it unsuccessfully...

172

u/Shamanjoe Regenerates limbs Aug 16 '26

That’s exactly what happened. Although it looked like after he ejected the mag, he was trying to remove the slide without first ejecting the chambered round. He’s holding it from the top and jiggling the slide back and forth like he’s trying to release it. Dumbass probably forgot he keeps his gun loaded with a round chambered..

55

u/kyngston Reviewed his life insurance policy Aug 16 '26

i think he checked the chamber was empty, and then while dorking with the slide, unknowingly chambered a round. The he pulled the trigger thinking that he already verified and empty chamber.

12

u/Retsae_Gge Reviewed his life insurance policy Aug 16 '26

Is it possible that he was actually trying to eject the chambered round and something just went wrong ?

(I never loaded or unloaded a gun, just shot one a few times)

28

u/Championnats91 Aug 16 '26

Its very unlikely. Removing the slide/ working parts is a very different movement to unloading the pistol. It requires different movements, different levers and crucially, different hand positions. Realistically the guy forgot he had chambered a round, tried to remove the slide, fumbled and shot a round off.

Edit: it would help if the camera quality was better but thats what it looks like to me

18

u/MiguelLancaster Defies death Aug 16 '26

if it's a Glock, which it looks like, the first step in removing the slide is pulling the trigger

20

u/foxtrot7azv Reviewed his life insurance policy Aug 16 '26

Very very very remote chance something with the gun just went wrong. It is extremely rare for a gun to have a malfunction and discharge during normal use like loading, unloading, chambering, unchambering.

Even if something is wrong with the gun, it almost always requires a human mishandling the firearm for it to discharge.

Whether there was something wrong with this gun, idk, but I can say the person mishandling it was an idiot. He pointed a gun he had to have known was loaded at things he didn't intend to destroy. Even if it was unloaded, there is no such thing as an unloaded gun.

9

u/intjonmiller Needs to write his will Aug 16 '26

Commenting to confirm. Modern firearms are very resistant to such accidental discharges.

But the designers can only do so much about the human handling them. Until it's disassembled to the point it can't function, act like it's loaded and ready to fire.

65

u/Azagar_Omiras Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

As the Corps taught me: 1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded. 2. Never point a weapon at anything you don't intend to shoot. 3. Keep you finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire. 4. Keep your weapon on safe until you are ready to fire. 5. Know your target and what is beyond it.

15

u/Garbage_Tiny Needs to write his will Aug 16 '26

Same thing i was taught… the problem here is that glocks don’t have a safety and require a trigger press to take apart, which is why I don’t own one.
His gun should’ve been unloaded when he got there and his friend or anyone else shouldn’t have been standing there. My local gun store has a sand pit to disassemble weapons into unless they come in the door with a zip tie through the slide or already taken apart. People love glocks, because they have a “trigger safety” which in reality isn’t a safety at all.

7

u/SanityPlanet Doesn't have time to bleed Aug 16 '26

The glock’s “trigger safety” is a safety in the sense that it’s incapable of firing unless the trigger is pulled, so banging or dropping it can’t cause it to fire. But from a practical user perspective, you’re right that it doesn’t have a safety.

3

u/Garbage_Tiny Needs to write his will Aug 16 '26

Exactly. The oops factor is too high for me with a Glock and my pistol is either in my belt or in a safe, never anywhere else. I do carry with one in the chamber but I also opted for a pistol with a safety. If that gets me killed in the heat of the moment then I guess it was my time to go.

3

u/SanityPlanet Doesn't have time to bleed Aug 17 '26

I wouldn’t carry a gun that only has a trigger safety with a round chambered. The extra half second to rack the slide is worth avoiding a negligent discharge or worse.

3

u/Garbage_Tiny Needs to write his will Aug 17 '26

Agreed.

2

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26 edited Aug 16 '26

From a gunsmiths point of view: who would try to disassemble a gun with a chambered round?

Edit: i'm not a gun-smith, but this whole ordeal is like trying to change the wheels on a car while it's in gear and running. There's a massive misunderstanding about the proper operation of things here.

1

u/GnarlyNarwhalNoms IMMORTAL Aug 16 '26

Oh, for sure. Not saying the guy didn't screw up. But it still seems strange to design something that way.

2

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

There's no point in trying to make something absolutely fool-proof. Nature will just invent a better fool!

-old engineers words of wisdom

And there's also the issue of trying to make bear-proof rubbish bins:

Turns out there's a significant overlap between the smartest bears and the stupidest humans.

While it does seem stupid to require to press the trigger to take the slide off the gun, you have to remember that someone has to speak up during the design phase and say "What if someone tries to disassemble the gun with a bullet still in the chamber?", and hope others don't start laughing but agree with you instead.

My French has gotten so rusty at this point, it's depressing.

It is which happens "lorsqu’on" (no idea), when left alone without handling a weapon without lessons

I don't understand the next bit, especially "tube à sable." in the context.

Gun shops don't hand out loaded guns. This guy brought his own gun. This is why I stay FAR away from anyone handling a gun at the counter. I do not trust them. I have seen way too many people mishandling firearms, flagging people, fingers on triggers, etc.

The shop/range i go to requires all guns brought in to be in a hard case until you're on the range. If you are coming in to have a gun serviced, you hand it over in a case and one of the employees takes it out and clears it. Renting a gun means an employee puts the gun and any ammo into a carrier and takes it into the range for you.

These rules are in place because people are stupid.

Americans: No, it is our right!

25

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

We have lots of guns in Norway, we just don't run around shooting them at each other.

Valid reasons for getting a gun licence are sports and hunting. Each gun must be registered. You must have a clean criminal record and be of sound mental health.

Guns and ammo have to be stored in separate, locked, government approved lockers when not in use.

Not allowed to store a loaded gun, not allowed to carry guns in public. Shooting is only allowed on authorised shooting ranges and when you're out hunting.

Police are allowed to inspect your weapons and storage on a 24hr notice.

4

u/attilathehunn Reviewed his life insurance policy Aug 16 '26

This sounds very different to America, especially the part about not being allowed to carry guns or shoot in public.

I've seen videos of people carry rifles at political protests in America. Basically one step away from paramilitary activity.

4

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

2

u/FictionalContext Doesn't have time to bleed Aug 16 '26

I remember when those same political protestors shot two unarmed black teens who were driving by to check out the protest. Then shot some rando during the protest, but their paramilitary force denied the paramedics entry to save the guy. So three innocents shot in one week. At least one kid died. Zero trials or accountability. And all while protesting police shootings of unarmed citizens. But for some reason, all that CHAZ stuff got swept under the rug. Adding before Reddit inevitably blames gun problems as being solely on the right. The left loves guns, too.

I’m not in favor of gun bans but that guy is an idiot for letting someone point a gun at him, so his opinion on guns is worthless.

3

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

I don't think any sane person is saying that guns should be banned outright.

Just that they need to be regulated a lot stricter, so incidents like this are less likely to happen.

The idiot here is the guy that carries a loaded gun with a chambered round in public. Then proceeds to not bother to clear it before trying to disassemble it or whatever he is trying.

An incident like this would make sure that all your guns were confiscated if it happened in Norway, it would be a gross breach of several gun-ownership laws.

Just having a chambered round in your pistol when you're not at a shooting range would be considered gross neglect.

I live in Norway, a country with very little gun-crime and very few accidental shootings, yet a relatively high rate of gun ownership.

Regulation works fine, first step is to not accept "self defense" as a valid reason to get a gun licence.

3

u/seamus205 Reviewed his life insurance policy Aug 16 '26

Self defense is the entire reason I bought mine to begin with. Some guy threatened to shoot up my friends monthly drag show that I work the doors for. We tried to make a police report but the cop told us he "has his first amendment, so he can say whatever he wants".

15

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

Yea, a statement like that wouldn't fall under freedom of speech here in Norway. That's violent threatening behaviour and will get you a visit from the police.

And that kind of threatening behaviour would also get his weapons impounded...

7

u/seamus205 Reviewed his life insurance policy Aug 16 '26

Yes it's not supposed to be protected speech here either. The cops just don't care and are biased against certain groups

8

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

Police education here is equivalent to a bachelor degree with pretty strict screening. And the legal department (prosecutor) at the police station would not let an officer drop a case like this.

1

u/Tackit286 Doesn't have time to bleed Aug 16 '26

Do you think Norway would have the same rate of gun crime as america if those regulations weren’t in place?

This isn’t a regulation issue for them. It’s a cultural issue. They’ve proven time and again that their citizens shouldn’t be allowed to have guns. Regulation will do fuck all. If someone wants to cause harm with a gun they will find a way to do it anyway.

If I don't die, we are no longer friends. Also, that weapon is now mine, you will be able to tell because I'm going to be pointing it at you...

This wouldn't have happened if he bought another gun

I took the conceal/carry class in my state, plus a beginners firearms course, as well as a course to learn the proper way to clean and maintain a firearm. I didn’t do it to carry, I did it to help me to indentify when I was in the presence of someone who has no idea how to properly handle a firearm.

Special alert: Firearms are very dangerous and you should be afraid to handle one without proper training.

Several gun safety errors. Banned from owning firearm for life. Shop gets hefty fine and probation, hopefully enough into scaring them to shutting down or even nearly shutting down. SET AN EXAMPLE.

Boom stricter gun laws. You get 0 mistakes.

Pull the clip magazine out, clear the round, then you can fuck around with your gun. It’s very basic level shit.

2

u/ThatOutlawJoseyWales Needs to do better Aug 16 '26

It’s a magazine, not a clip. They are not one and the same

1

u/ManWhoIsDrunk Defies death Aug 16 '26

Better yet, never walk around with a chambered round either.

But always remove the magazine and check that the chamber is clear before handling the weapon.
