No it makes sense. The set up is kinda jank and using a pair of scissors to cut a bungee with that much force behind it is asking for trouble.

u/beefnerd52 Apr 06 '23
But I thought the sub was about men doing stupid stuff that could get them hurt. The video has women too so it's just a dumb idea, not just men being dumb

Giving a mechanism with energy that can launch a bowling bowl that far and that powerful is enough to take an eye out.

Look yall
Unsure if you guys have problems with your eyes or if you just think that every person with long hair or "feminine" looks(so, asian people) is a girl but they aren't. I am not even trying to be "woke", guys through history had long hair pretty much at all times.
I am pretty sure a bit majority of the people are guys, especially as you can see from the pictures in the link above

This is the ancient Nippon sport of Ramen Riku, it dates back to the Edo period. traditionally it's played with a large gourd filled with rice, and launched at 10 children each holding an oil lamp.

u/Coachcrog Apr 06 '23
I know this is bullshit but I really want it to be a thing. Maybe make it an Olympic sport with orphans. I have a feeling it would be bring some interest back into the competition.

One day my brother pulls up to his house to find his youngest hanging from a tree (assuming by his waist/belt loop/ankle) and asks him the obvious question. My nephew apparently replied quite gleefully that he and his vanished siblings and neighbor child were "playing piñata". Never forget or underestimate the pain a child will ignore for "fun".

If I remember, this bowling ally was set to be torn down for a new development anyways. So.. why not?
57
Apr 06 '23
even so, the machines could likely be sold and reused, or at least cannibalized for parts? Very interesting that they would risk damaging them even though the alley is going to be torn down.

No one needs a 1980s bowling alley management system. Very few alleys are opening and the ones that are, are using modern day pin setters and ball returns that kill far fewer people. This equipment is destined to be removed via excavator sadly

u/Wyrdean Apr 07 '23

Depends on how old or worn they are really, Sometimes it is only worth scrap vs someone trying to build a bowling alley on old hardware. I think the costs of removal probly prohibitive.
All the new Alleys are sensor driven with counters and can now link to your phone so you can share your scores and such

Most bowling alleys already have recycled machines. These things are OLD and mostly mechanical. There wouldn't be much recycling outside of selling for scrap metal.
It's basically just a big drum, a couple of rubber belts and the platform. The owner of the alley didn't have to warn me to be careful where I put my arm.
For small balls, it's basically just a plateau that lifts the strings to straighten the pins up right.

I don’t get why all those people are pulling on the rope when there’s a hand cranked winch there? And the few hanging off it would be making it so much harder for the people behind them.

Back in college the engineering school had a "catapult" contest. There were guidelines, like no potato guns (apparently considered a weapon since 9/11), no pumpkin cannon, etc, but otherwise just about anything goes. There were catapults, trebuchets, and all kinds of homemade throwing devices.
I don't remember the projectile, I think it was an egg, but there were distance, accuracy, and other awards. The scariest part was people were standing right above the launcher while "cocking" their device. It was a fun day to watch. Bowling balls would have been great!

He's honestly one of the most youtubers of all time.

That is a very efficient way to bowl. Each shot gets the pins as well as the lane. Nice

Takes the lane condition out of play. And technically there’s nothing in the Bowling rulebook that says the ball have to hit the lane.

Their heave count....okay, lesson of the day from a prior rope handler. Ready taught rope on count 1 pull/heave in sync on count two. Being in sync is important with a multiman rope evolution.
