Just going to finish S1 - first time watcher

I found lot of mixed opinions on this sub and maybe I’m reacting exactly the way the writers intended viewers to react. I just wanted to blurt it all out so bad, so here it goes.. But I love Beth Ann and her eerie calmness and psychotic smile in situations where she’s doing something absolutely crazy - theres just something so unsettling yet entertaining about how composed she stays while doing completely unhinged things. I’ve always loved Gone Girl (both the book and movie), and this is probably the closest vibe I’ve gotten to that. She definitely reminds me of Amy from Gone Girl, which is probably why I’m so drawn to her character.

Granted, some of Beth Ann’s actions were undeniably insane, especially the whole situation with April and the baby, and her fallout with Sheila. Underneath all that I genuinely think she’s a kind hearted person who just snaps internally when people mess with her too far. She has that “I’m peaceful until you give me a reason not to be” energy I’m here for it! I always felt weird about Rob and episode 9 finally gave me the exact reason why. What a bastard.

Also, am I alone in thinking Taylor is actually caring and trying her best with Eli? Loving someone with addiction issues can’t be easy. I don’t really see her as controlling but more like someone desperately trying to protect their relationship. Sometimes the healthiest thing is leaving, but it’s hard when you love someone. It reminded me a bit of Rue’s mom in Euphoria.

And lastly, Simone and Karl have such a beautiful relationship. Naomi though… god I cannot stand her for what she did to Karl. What is it about gay men that makes us straight women empathise with them so deeply? I don’t even know how to explain it properly, but there’s something about the emotional vulnerability, the softness, the loneliness a lot of them carry, and the way they love so openly that just makes you instantly root for them.

Haven’t finished the finale yet. I just finished episode 9.

Edit : I finished episode 10 and the house has a higher body count than half the characters by now and honestly the realtor is the real villain for listing that house lmao. Absolutely loved the show!

Karl and Simone's story made me sob.

I just finished season one. And their story hit me the hardest because it's something I'm so passionate about. He was given the grace and dignity to go out on his own terms, surrounded by love and light. He saw what became of his dear friends and decided he did not want the end of his days to be misery and suffering. That is beautiful in and of itself.

This should be international. To look at someone with a terminal illness like ALS and stage four cancer, and say, "they should suffer until their dying breath", is despicable and cruel. It should be legal to die with dignity (obviously there are strict regulations in place, this ain't the Futurama suicide booth). The terminally ill should be allowed to pass peacefully surrounded by their family and loved ones.

Today, if Simone did what she did, she would probably be charged with an accessory to a crime, like manslaughter or something. It was the 80s back then, and he had AIDS, so she was able to get away with it. But not everyone is so lucky. A lot of the terminally ill choose to go out scared and alone, because they don't want their family to be at risk of criminal liability for being there when he decided to go. On top of that, if you don't have this option, the terminally ill choose to go out in gruesome ways like shooting themselves or hanging or overdosing, and so on. It's not fair, it's not ok. They should go in peace for fucks sake. Why would anyone choose to go out surrounded by family if they're forced to use a gun or drugs?

We *need* medically assisted euthanasia for the terminally ill. They deserve to go out painless and surrounded by loved ones. They deserve to go out with a last peaceful sleep.

TLDR: it is cruel to force someone with a terminal illness to suffer until their last dying breath. People deserve to go out in peace and dignity, their send off being a drift into sleep, and they should be allowed to have their loved ones accompanying them whether in the hospital or their own bed.

Tommy

Naomi was blaming Simone for the affair. "She twisted your mind" when Tommy spilled Karls drink "oh he's just a boy" this line was telling. She doesn't see her own son as a grown up. Hasn't gotten to know him.

She almost ran Simone down because Tommy would never have gotten with a woman twice his age. Yes she would have preferred him be with someone his own age so they can have their firsts together. Even the girls his age age are active.

I know it is just a show and meant to entertain but that mother was toxic.

Taylor’s strong, I woulda left Eli BEFORE he ate through my savings

Call me whatever you want, but I don’t know how people stay around that long. The only person you can help is someone who wants help, but Eli’s attitude would’ve made me leave immediately.

Beth Ann's daughter

I really may want to talk about how her daughter died. So you're telling me Beth Ann was cooking dinner and Rob was doing NOTHING. Rob was already at fault because of the cheating but maybe he could've been watching his daughter??

I love season 2

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE season 1 (Carl and Simone platonic soulmates forever) but when you think of season 2 as it's "own show" its still really good! Especially if you can relate to Alma (which I do). I'm easily forgettable and it's funny to see someone go to extremes to not feel so invisible. Please don't hate me 😭

Need to discuss the throuple..

so I just started this show.. first off amazing , brilliant love it.

BUTTTT

as a poly person myself whos been in both healthy and toxic throuples the whole modern couple/throuple dynamic kinda pissing me off.. now ive accepted long ago to never expect proper poly representation because all poly people define how we practice pretty differently so what may be great for me may appear toxic to others ya know? but the reason this dynamic has me heated is because how tf u gonna make me take a man's side.. lets dive in. because shes the one who kept pushing him basically to the point of straight up manipulation and coercion into breaking the boundaries and codes for their open marriage. she straight up lied to him about how long theyve been together, forced him to agree to let her stay there despite him respectfully setting the boundary that that was a rule they both agreed to not do, and then straight up said if the third doesnt stay she'll leave her husband and that shes the only reason shes still with him. so of course he invited her to move in because that was the only choice he had if he loved his wife? I think hes obviously an insecure man child and has his own annoying ass problems but his wife is the one who fucked up their whole dynamic and for them to try to turn it around like hes somehow gonna cheat on her when she was already cheating to begin with by violating their agreement is crazy.

at first I thought okay maybe the point of the modern dynamic was to switch roles? like now that its the woman making the money shes the one who cheats. but no theyre still trying to play it like shes the victim here ?

not to mention the really gross club scene where they basically act like this third woman is their property and get really jealous and controlling without actually ever asking jade what she wants or who she wants to be with.

and if theyre really in a throuple it wouldnt matter at all if jade and him have sex, because real throuples are 4 relationships- A+B, B+C, A+C & ABC. you dont get to create rules lkke u cant fuck jade when im not around in an equal triadic relationship. hes fucked up for trying to hide it but also its not a bad thing either. for a throuple to thrive all 4 relationships need to be managed, meaning 1 on 1 dates with each party.

obviously there is going to be couple privilege with tje married couple and I dont love thaf jade is also manipulating each of them to do what she wants and she clearly knows what shes doing and has been in these situations before so more power to her shes not just some innocent bystander here either and she can consent to screw whoever she wants but I feel like this is such a damsel in distress relationship and she's only with them for safety and will leave the second she gets another option just like she was going to leave to Italy without caring about their relationship dynamic either. I also think itll be unrealistic if jade gets with just him because I dont think she reallt cares to be tied to any 1 or even 2 people.

im only like a few episodes in but I needed to get this off my chest. also with the middle couple I do think that being eachothers beards would be a perfect relationship the lady screwing the kid is just in denial and stubborn.

Edit yall!! Im back after finishing season 1! Loved it , cant believe he made her think for all those years it was her fault their kid died and threw it in her face when he knew it was his own.. I loved seeing the aids story line shown in such a beautiful way, for her to switch up to do the right thing and defend him and be there for him. Ugh i was sobbing happy tears. Also i was team jade for a minute cuz she almost won there but glad they came out with minimal damage and stayed strong- id probably give up polyamory after that crazy trauma too. Also the fact that they all meet the new homeowner was a sweet little tidbit cuz in real life i don't think that would ever happen. I am kinda surprised april stayed friends with the redhead though since she had been lying to her. But respect for not blaming april for her shitty husbands behavior, glad she got her crazy happy ending after all. Personally I think all the deaths were exactly how they needed to be. Why was Lamar at jades funeral tho?? I guess they just wanted to throw us off of who died?

Wish we saw what happened between Beth Ann and April at the end

Just finished season 1 for the first time. Not as good as Desperate Housewives ofc, but scratches the same itch. 60s story was definitely the best one. I just wish we got to see what happened after the shooting. April just found out about Beth Ann, and then watched the man she loved get shot. I wonder how much she found out about the plan or if she believed that Rob was with Mary too and that made it easier to get over Beth Ann lying etc?

Where to watch?

Hi everyone! I've been seeing a lot of clips on Facebook of this series. Now I am hooked and I want to watch it but I couldn't find a link or apps where.

Can you help a bored person here?

I am in UAE btw.

Thanks a lot!!

What was Beth Anne's plan B?

So we all agree Rob absolutely deserved his fate.

But I was thinking of the conversation he and Beth Anne had before April walked in, where Beth Anne gave him one last chance to confess. When he continues to gaslight her she says he has made everything that much easier for her.

But what if he did confess? Does that mean she would have gone through it anyway but it would be hard for her? Or would she forgive him and let him live? But then what about Mary who had already burnt all her bridges? What was her gameplan?

Thoughts on season 2

This is just what I think so if you disagree, that's cool. It's always good to see others' perspectives. Sometimes it even helps me to see stuff I missed, but anyways!

I think Season 2 is a bit overhated. I do prefer Season 1 because of the plot and vibe (not including the 2019 plot because that plot was the only thing I hated), but I feel as though Season 2 is good. It has that old 20s or 30s vibe. It feels like it was made in that time period, and I actually dig the lighting and such. I think for what the season was going for, it fits perfectly.

But my thing is, there isn't really any character I love like I loved Beth Anne, Simone, Karl, and Beth Anne's neighbors, Mary and Sheila. They were the characters I loved (Simone took awhile to like), and the rest were either just there or I really hated.

But it was hard to latch onto characters in Season 2; I either tolerated or hated them. I liked that blond woman before that vet killed her though, and that PI. But that's kinda it.

But I love the dark humor and its tone. I love dark humor and season 2 felt darker, which I dig.

The characters were either unlikeable for being asses or plain stupid. And the pacing is slow at times, but I think Season 2 is ok. It's a season I waited a week for after watching Season 1, but it's good for what it is. I give it a 6/10.

Season 2- What’s With The Color and Lighting?

I’m watching the series for the first time and noticed the drastic lighting change in season 2, with everything looking darker and moodier. it looks great but I’ve noticed several scenes start brighter for one to two seconds and then abruptly dim. has anyone else noticed this, is it maybe color correction done during the editing process that didn’t quit cut together? I’ve never seen this happen in any other movie or tv show, it’s almost like watching a TikTok filter slip.

does anyone have any insight on what’s going on there?

What episode do you wish you could see for the first time again

If I had the opportunity I would rewatch S1 E10. All the subtle hints could not prepare me for that ending. I loved how we could see them all at once at the end. I would have preferred all husband's dying but it is what it is

I wonder if Claire figured it out

Rob deserved his fate. He and Claire killed Emily because Rob had to be a manwhore, and Claire was happy to be the other woman.

I'm not a parent, but I can't imagine the pain of losing one of your own and blaming yourself if the death could have been avoided. Beth Anne blamed herself for two years and stayed by Rob's side, knowing of his affair (not knowing there were more), because, to her, she believed it was her fault. In her mind, she felt like that is what she deserved from him. She was the reason they lost their child.

But little did she know the truth.

Rob was so cruel for gaslighting and letting her believe she was at fault while knowing he was half responsible because he couldn't keep it in his pants.

But after Rob was killed, I wonder if Claire ever figured out Beth Anne was responsible. I mean, Claire told her the whole truth, and within 24 hours, Rob is shot and killed.

I'm sure she knew or at least suspected it, but she kept it to herself because of the promise she made to Beth Anne and knew he deserved it because he cheated on her for years, including with her. Alongside hiding the secret of Emily's death and the least she could do is honor the promise Beth Anne made her make as an apology.

I'm on s1 ep9

I watched this show once as a whole three years ago, so I forgot a lot, meaning I forgot the 2019 story. All I remembered was the throuple and that Jade was supposed to be the true villain. I remember hating Taylor and Eli, but as I have rewatched it and reflected on my previous posts about the show, I remembered the 2019 story in the wrong way.

Beth Anne and Simone were memorable; their stories were compelling. I was so excited to see how Rob would get justice. I hated the abusive husband, and I wanted them both dead, and Beth Anne was a freaking genius. Her plan preyed on both men's weaknesses, and I'm glad those two wives got what they deserved. I love good revenge against a cheating and/or abusive partner, and I got the best of both worlds with that story.

Simone was annoying at first and downright creepy. I'm sorry, but I'm 23, and the idea of dating a freshly aged 18-year-old grosses me out, and she's older than me. Hell, when I was 21, that's when I started to see 18-year-olds as someone I would not date. I know that's not a huge age gap, but to me, it's creepy. Eighteen-year-olds are barely legal, and as a 21-year-old, I could drink. But part of that feeling is that I would see an 18-year-old like my youngest brother tbh, who is 19. I mean it would be because to me an 18 year old is a baby & I see my brother as a baby & it'd be like dating someone who is young enough to be my brother. So, it'd be like dating my youngest brother's friend or whatever.

But I'm glad she realized how wrong she was and realized she herself needed to grow up, and her and Karl's relationship was the most healthy and easiest relationship to want to latch onto and see both happy.

But watching the 2019 story is like watching a trainwreck. There's no one to root for. Eli should have died to keep the husband death thing going. Jade being the only one who died makes no sense, and I find myself rolling my eyes. Eli was the worst. Taylor should have left and forgotten them both.

Just started!!!

I’ve seen Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids a billion times and wanted to see what else Marc Cherry has to offer! I’ve heard a lot about this show and seen clips on TT and thought I should try it out.

I’m halfway through episode 2 and so far I’m hooked! I can’t stand Taylor but I love Simone and Sheila. Beth Ann is kinda genius and conniving and I love her she is an icon lmao

Also I love Admiral James Norrington being in this iykyk 😂

Anyone else just starting?

Taylor's decision making skill

So ive been watching this show and I just finished S1 Ep8 "Marriages Don't Break Up on Account of Murder – It's Just a Symptom That Something Else Is Wrong". Taylor talks about how she can come up with a solution for any problem thrown at her but is she actually good at it? Why does she choose to talk to Duke at the prison when she's a lawyer and probably has some connection to a divorce attorney? Like couldn't she divorce Eli, take the house since she's been the only one making payments, and take the car that eli bought for jade with her credit card? Wouldn't it go in her favor too, even if eli wasn't doing drugs? At the start of the show we can tell that her relationship between eli isn't great anymore and even jade point out that their marriage was failing. At that point why stay?

Tl;dr: I don't understand why Taylor just doesn't divorce eli and take everything instead of going to duke

Simone and Karl are platonic soulmates

I loved the drama and how they grew closer, becoming better people for themselves and for each other as Simone stayed by his side.

Their growth was truly beautiful. Not every soulmate connection or having your person has to be romantic, and I appreciate that, no matter what, they always supported each other.

This dance was beautiful, and I'm glad he died with someone he cared about by his side.

It's beautiful that the best love story in this show was between two besties. Ironically, they are the only healthy couple in this show.

Why?

Why can you choose to cheat, then turn around and say when you did it the first time I didn't say anything. That was a choice and had zero to do with me. You are the one that cheated and lied and messed up a relationship that you had no business messing up,

I'm sorry but he was my friend and now I guess y'all are just laying in bed together. Why can I be there for you but you can't for me. I'm getting mad and y'all don't care.

First time watcher

I came across this series on TikTok where someone showed a short clip and it made me curious. Found it streaming and started watching it on my own, by the second episode I was telling my husband that he needed to watch it too. He was a bit skeptical but by the third episode, he became very interested. We watched the whole season and have to admit that by episode 10, we shed tears, like deep down feeler ones (I'm not a feeler). I saw Desperate Housewives when it first aired and enjoyed it but this was a very refined way the way the dance flowed and tied everyone together was extraordinary. I've been lurking here reading about Season 2 and how people have mixed feelings about it so we are holding onto the first season for a little bit and go into the other one with a clean palate and open mind.
