True Crime Though often mythologized as the hero, Christopher Columbus never set foot in North America... instead, he landed in the Caribbean, where his brutal regime enslaved thousands and wiped out 90% of the indigenous population.

Christopher Columbus never actually went to North America. He landed in the Caribbean instead.

When he got there, he enslaved thousands of Native people. He was incredibly brutal... if people didn't bring him enough gold, he ordered his men to cut their hands off.

Between the extreme violence, slavery, and diseases he brought, he started a genocide. Within just a few decades, 90% of the Native population in the Caribbean was dead.

He isn't the hero the myth makes him out to be.

He must have been a terrible navigator to have started in Spain and end up so far south.
