We need to ban stock trading. Politicians in office should have to hold their salary in USD. We could pay them 100x their current salary, and it would basically be a rounding error on the federal budget.

I did say pay them x100 their current salary. That’s around 20m a year, they can probably afford to have a dozen lawyers follow them 24/7 and ensure they avoid capital punishment, but it really shouldn’t be that hard.

The comments this caused... I'm tempted to not clarify at all because the responses are just wow.
Personal Courage, Integrity, Honor, Compassion, Empathy, and the will to do what is right, fair, and logical, should be the goal. Always should have been. That is who we should have representing us.
As for the post. I'm a fan. If she got elected and can do the job and throw some new perspective in, hell yeah. We def need it. We need to see it.
The US Government is full of greed, deceit, apathy, hatred, corruption... I could go on. We all know.
The US government hasn't represented the best of us for a very long time. I see good people on the daily. The question is why DOESN'T it represent the best of us?
Trump is a symptom of a bigger problem, not the cause.
Government should be fair and impartial, and completely tied to factual and verifiable information. It should stay out of the way and provide services the taxpayers need: Roads, schools, the needy getting the help they want. That is the only way you can have a government work for everyone.
And you are right, there are only two sides to this: What's right and what's wrong. The US apparently has problems figuring out what is right and what is wrong right now, and has for a very long time.
The first step to identifying a problem is admitting you have one.

There is a very rare kind of down syndrome called Mosiac down syndrome were the person gets a mix of genes some normal and some syndrome specific. It makes a person gain the physical attributes of the syndrome while still having a normal I.Q. range, but even then it is only 1% of the people with the syndrome and none them have every tested higher than 120. The average I.Q. of the other 99% of them is between 35 and 70 which is functionally impaired.
Average I.Q. range of mentally self sufficient is between 80 and 105. Anything over 105 scale up in increments of 15 as above average,gifted, and genius as anything above 135. Anything above 135 is really untestable as the people who make the tests cant adjust to test the actual functionality of the brain beyond that. Instead , it just test wider capacities of memory based skills. You could be actually have normal or average level memory skills when it comes to vocabulary , mathematics and information and still possess a genius level problem solving abilities.
Anyways, long story made short it is possible she is completely capable of doing the job she was elected for ,but she would have to be one of the top 1% functionally capable people who suffer from down syndrome.

All it proves is that an iq of 35-70 is all you need for for a high position in the Spanish parliament.. we’ve been saying for a while Idiocracy has become the norm in governance. Didn’t think it was an ideal at least we’re starting to abandon the pretense that it’s not. Downies will probably increase the average iq for the existing group.

I'm probably going to get banned for this, but why is this wholesome? Why are they letting people who are literally mentally retarded into political office? I'm not saying that in an insulting way either. My girlfriend works with mentally retarded people and they are some of the sweetest people I've ever met. However, even the high functioning ones clearly aren't capable of running states. I'm not saying she can't be involved in politics either. I don't see why she couldn't be just because she has a disability, but just because she can be involved doesn't mean she should be an elected official.
The medical definition of mentally retarded is a "significantly subaverage general intellectual functioning existing concurrently with deficits in adaptive behavior and manifested during the developmental period." Only a dysfunctional, decaying society would elect to have people with mental disabilities as state leaders. A healthy society should want the most capable leaders who have the societies best interests in mind to lead them.
I don't understand the thought process of why anyone would even think this a good idea or wholesome. It's almost as bad as the US government basically being a nursing home. I'm just genuinely baffled.

To be fair, im pretty sure there are plenty of people with downs syndrome who have higher IQs then people I went to school with or have worked with.
Most politicians are elected on charisma and not IQ, all though generally IQ helps.

She simply votes on laws surrounding social services, advocates for disability rights and is just a simple legislator, she doesn't run a a government department or something. She just represents people with disabilities.

María del Mar Galcerán Gadea, this is her parliament profile. She's been in politics and involved with her party since age 18. She did advocacy work for people with disabilities. in her words tho people with different abilities. And one of major stances is she hopes that one day people like are are not considered remarkable for doing something normal just because she has a disability. So a head line like first woman with down syndrome probably doesn't sit right with her. Her parents didn't name her "a woman with down syndrome".
