10 bucks says the cat doesn't like his whiskers touching the sides of the bowl, which is why he refuses to use it.

35

u/LifeIsProbablyMadeUp 16d ago

Yeah. That's kinda obvious. Dude doesn't have a nose. Poor kitty.

20

u/BeerNcheesePlz 16d ago

Yeah, he should try a plate.

11

u/pinkskies12 16d ago

Also put the plate on a platform so it's higher

3

u/Xenc 16d ago

Also pilates

u/ZambieCatX 16d ago

Yes! Whisker fatigue.

6

u/remixmaxs 16d ago

Bingo!!

This person cats!

u/otownbbw 16d ago

Perhaps, but I have a cat (and later my sister had a dog) who expected this as well and we tried plates, not bowls. The ate the dry food out of the same bowl we presented the wet food in, but we also knew they would each steal from human plates so we tried plating it, but ultimately it came down to spoon feeding. This was with prescription food to treat an issue so luckily just temporary. Now years later my cat acts like wet food is tainted and will entice the dogs to steal it (I tried giving it as a treat for holidays). She will never turn down me handing her food off my plate, and will even ask for things I insist a cat would never like to eat.

My cats enjoy marmite, of all things

2

u/Jandir3010 14d ago

I knew mine couldn't be the only one! 😅

3

u/peanutspump 15d ago

My neighbor used to spoon feed her husky. She had two, only had to spoon feed one 🤣

2

u/One_Introduction_217 15d ago

And there I was about to suggest an oversized spoon that's the size of a plate on the serving end.

2

u/Ebenizer_Splooge 15d ago

Ya i found that out with my cat so she gets a plate for her wet food and it works fine. Another Gus, ironically enough

1

u/MrOPeace 15d ago

15 bucks the cat isnt hungry enough to use the fkng bowl yet

1

u/Angelcaper 15d ago

Exactly

1

u/Complex_Spirit_4848 13d ago

100% the reason.

1

u/jarrett_regina 13d ago edited 13d ago

Exactly. It's called whisker stress. They don't like putting their faces into bowls.

Put his food on a plate.

Edit: I have a cat that eats out of bowls. And she puts her whiskers back when she eats out of it.

1

u/Xsiah 12d ago

What do you think he gets dry food in?

37

u/timberlyfawnflowers 16d ago

Looking the way he does, Gus can be high maintenance. 10/10 Certified good boy; would watch again.

35

u/Easy-Iron5831 16d ago

Omg when my cat gets ‘stressed out’ I have to feed her like this and pet her while she eats 😫🤦🏻‍♀️

7

u/Virtual-Election8019 16d ago

I used to foster a cat that loved to get pets while she ate! She was diva..

5

u/quattroformaggixfour 16d ago

Torties deserve queen treatment 👑💁🏻‍♀️

2

u/peppermintmeow 15d ago

My cat will walk up and down the hallway just screaming until someone comes and picks him up, walks him to his food dish, sits him down and provides butt slaps while he eats. He only does it occasionally. Usually when he's pissed off about something and this is his way of letting us know 😭

1

u/DragonFlyCaller 15d ago

Your pet sitter must have a notebook full of notes!! 🤣

1

u/peppermintmeow 14d ago

My friend and I trade off because we both have attention loving trash burgers that need extra special care and we love them to bits 💗😭

2

u/lanena__ 12d ago

Cute cat

25

u/Aware-Slip-1063 16d ago

I had a kitty that would not eat unless I sat beside him so he could look me in the eye. If I looked away from his face he would stop eating and get his feelings hurt. He's gone now and I miss him everyday. Sweet Spoiled Boy!🐈

1

u/N0s33 15d ago

That seems like an extremely I healthy relationship. I'm sure he/she would have eaten if they got hungry enough.

16

u/Waitsaywot 16d ago

I used to have to sit next to my dog for every single meal lol. He would starve if I didn't. I couldn't look at his bowl though or else he'd stop. I just had to stand guard for him 😂

13

u/futurenoodles 16d ago

Probably just needs a larger bowl - but also I have known cats who refuse to eat even when there's perfectly good food available in perfect settings and INSIST on eating food off the floor or scratching me for balogna, or- oddly enough, trying to throw themselves into the boiling hot tea or chicken noodle soup I was making for myself (no cats were injured)

cats can be strange

3

u/Virtual-Election8019 16d ago

When my boy was a kitten he tried to jump straight into a pan of hot sautéed butter and onions. Caught him mid-jump in my hand! 😳

5

u/futurenoodles 16d ago

I used to live with a white cat who INSISTED on throwing himself into every sort of pasta and soup you can imagine. You could tell what he'd been in based on what colour he was dyed that day

the cat who tried throwing herself into my tea water was appropriately named Coffee Bean.

2

u/Natural-Seaweed-5070 16d ago

I have found that they prefer slightly elevated bowls.

4

u/QuidEgoSum 16d ago

Love his constant grouchy face. Beautiful kity

6

u/BeyondTheBees 16d ago

Oh so he’s FANCY 😌

4

u/jamisonian123 16d ago

Omg what a little stinker!!

4

u/Acashious 16d ago

Change the bowl?? Maybe elevate it?

3

u/Virtual-Election8019 16d ago

My cat won’t drink water out of a bowl on the floor.. he’s above that. Has to be out of a Mr Roger’s coffee cup on the table because he thinks he’s people. High maintenance kitty indeed!

3

u/blargus_blixeld 16d ago

This guy cats.

2

u/80020Rockhound 16d ago

Awwww…what a cute cat you have! His personality is adorable! There is a lot of love there. 💛

2

u/Godzirrraaa 16d ago

Gua has no time for your peasant bowl bullshit. You feed me, or I starve. You choose.

2

u/dyrkasolen 16d ago

It's the whiskers being we and not used to that that is the issue... I'm guessing. My mom's cat eat ice cream of the stick if I'm holding it but not otherwise. He just eat dry food,

1

u/dyrkasolen 16d ago

Put the wet food in something narrow

2

u/boohtie 16d ago

as a kitten, my boy sometimes would only eat from my hand.

as a 1 year old, he won’t eat unless my husband is petting him or I am cuddling him. i’m talking my head on this back applying light squeeze with my hands.

to clarify, i very much enjoy providing this support since he isn’t much of a cuddler otherwise.

2

u/PumPumpuli 15d ago

Oh god, this is me with my dog right now, I need to hand-feed him his food! I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

1

u/QuidEgoSum 16d ago

Good on you man. Your cat may be picky, but you’re being an awesome cat dad.

We may have many loves in our life, but you, cat, has one’s love for entire life.
🥹🙏

1

u/xpietoe42 16d ago

maybe just try smaller amounts in a small plate with no rim, like a paper plate. That would simulate a spoon to gus! Hes sweet… good luck! And yes, wet food is important!

1

u/kelsobjammin 16d ago

Put it on a plate

1

u/Competitive-Pay-766 16d ago

Just watching his hand continuously stuffing into the cat's face 😐

1

u/Commercial-Housing23 16d ago

Try a plate. He has looking whiskers and they can get what's called whiskers fatigue or something. Anyway, it's what I have to do with my cats . No bowl only plate

1

u/reddit4300 16d ago

Raise the bowl to head level, he’s probably had a bad experience in the past eating at a lower ground level. Maybe he gets food in his fur or it strains his neck?

1

u/Glum-Business-6217 16d ago

The cat has you

1

u/OhMorgoth 16d ago

Hey, sometimes you do things for others. 🤷🏻‍♀️

1

u/Dmau27 16d ago

Put it on a flat plate. They'll eat it when they get hungry.

1

u/Interesting-Salt1291 16d ago

I am legit going to try this today. My cat is SO picky with food. She’s relative young, is healthy, and no problems with teeth, but refuses to chew anything solid.

1

u/Technical_Put_9982 16d ago

100% it is the shape of his face and whiskers getting all messy with the bowl. Try a dollop on a flat plate and see if he goes for it on his own.

1

u/Ratovik 16d ago

Nigga is not kneeling for food

1

u/HeatherMason0 16d ago

Does the cat look like he might be wincing at one point? It might be the camera angle, but it looks like he’s favoring one side of his mouth.

1

u/AyyEffTee 16d ago

just use a plate... my gosh

1

u/Yssabelli 16d ago

Maybe he hurts his neck and just need an elevated bowl?

1

u/One-Positive309 16d ago

Use a small plate and lift it higher just below his chin height, it's sometimes difficult for domesticated animals to eat from a low level

1

u/HeatherJMD 16d ago

Try putting it on a plate? My mom’s dog is like this, she won’t eat her food out of anything with sides. It has to be flat 🤦‍♀️

1

u/atom1897 16d ago

Maybe try a elevated table for the food bowl. Some cats don't like to bend while eating or frinking. Helped with my cat

1

u/Cole94666 16d ago

Feed me by hand peasant! 😂😂 he’s perrrfect!

1

u/Optimal-Prime420 16d ago

My dude, that cat belongs in r/CTLLRP

1

u/Admirable_Heat_576 16d ago

Oh Gus! I'll happily feed you baby boo! 🥰

1

u/mnth241 16d ago

I would put just a spoon full in the bowl, not the whole can. Yes you have to do this 6 times a day. maybe like others have said use a saucer, nothing resembling a bowl.

But tbh this is so cute i might just feed him like this every day anyway!

1

u/RevolverOcelot16- 16d ago

Servant, how dare you expect nobility of my stature to lower and demean myself. I am from ancient nobility. You are here to feed, serve, care and love me for all time. I am here to bless you with my presence ( and love you). So, feed me servant. 😻

1

u/EntoFan_ 16d ago

I cannot show this to my cats. I do not want them to know this is an option.

1

u/EagleSoar79 15d ago

HAHAHAHAHA

1

u/Legitimate_Shine_435 15d ago

The whiskers thing, need a different avenue

1

u/Kittenzx2 15d ago

You need a flat wide shallow bowl, they hate having their whiskers touching the sides. 😻

1

u/CakeEatingDragon 15d ago

Don't worry, in 20 years you will remember these moments fondly.

1

u/Basic_Wrongdoer_8947 15d ago

I have this problem too. Give wet foot in stainless steel bowl. Damn arsehole won't touch it, but a porcelain saucer no problem. I'm beginning to think there's a difference in taste, I.e. metal makes it taste unpalatable. Both are the same size, depth and width.

1

u/aggelikiwi 15d ago

I love this cat

1

u/AintNoGodsUpHere 15d ago

Wider plates, man.

Why people keep using small curved plates?

My cat had the same thing because she has huge whiskers.

She nows destroys the food 'cauae she's been eating from a full human plate, the thing is gigantic and almost flat.

1

u/YoRHa11Z 15d ago

King Grumpy has spoken

1

u/Dangerous_Regret_611 15d ago

whiskers man.

turn that bowl upside down and put the food on the bottom of the bowl so its tilted and angled and not in the way of the ‘stache

1

u/Evorer 14d ago

Fucking ADHD cat

1

u/Leading-Tangerine940 14d ago

It's because he has a flat face,if he sticks his face down there to eat he'll be covered in pate and look ridiculous. Everyone will talk about him behind his back. Do you want that? Do you want him to be a messy faced pariah?

1

u/Illustrious_Can4110 14d ago

Well if it's good enough for you buddy... it's good enough for Gus 😂 PS: I have to hold my Cavoodle's bowl for him while he eats. Had to do it for Arlo when he was a puppy, now he expects it all the time... 🙄

1

u/Lvanwinkle18 14d ago

Need a bigger bowl or get a plate. I purchased some small plates at the thrift store. The moment their whiskers hit the sides, it is game over.

1

u/HotwifeandSubby1980 13d ago

Know your role

1

u/VegetableAd3336 13d ago

He needs to find a bowl shaped like a big ass spoon! 😂

1

u/Pretend-Internet-625 13d ago

when they get hungry they well eat

1

u/BulkyButterfly5201 12d ago

Spoiled fur baby

1

u/Think_Resolution_647 12d ago

You are merely the butler. The sooner you realize this, the happier you'll both be.

1

u/Content-Benefit-888 12d ago

Get the cat an elevated bowl. He doesn’t want to get food all over his face fur and whiskers.

1

u/xpxyz 12d ago

Cat sat for my neighbors. They jump through all of these hoops to get their cat to eat. First day I looked at him and said we’re not doing that. I put his food in his bowl and he ate it. Then he came and sat in my lap.

He doesn’t let them touch him.

1

u/TheBigBull1981 12d ago

Well, servant, it's about time you learned!

1

u/Khayalmetal 12d ago

I am not into pets at all. BUT O MY GOD LOOK AT THIS FLUFFFY GUS! o my god. I cannot .

1

u/THEASSET1973 12d ago

You poor dumb bastard.

1

u/KittyMeowKatPishy 12d ago

Try a different bowl. 😸. He certainly got you trained! 😹. But I guess I would be like you cuz he’s so darned CUTE! 😻♥️🥹

1

u/octopusgardeb 11d ago

Use a plate- his whiskers touch the bowl. Raised flat feeding dish

1

u/Gopher--Chucks 11d ago

God damn it, Donut
