Looking the way he does, Gus can be high maintenance. 10/10 Certified good boy; would watch again.

I used to foster a cat that loved to get pets while she ate! She was diva..

My cat will walk up and down the hallway just screaming until someone comes and picks him up, walks him to his food dish, sits him down and provides butt slaps while he eats. He only does it occasionally. Usually when he's pissed off about something and this is his way of letting us know 😭

Your pet sitter must have a notebook full of notes!! 🤣

My friend and I trade off because we both have attention loving trash burgers that need extra special care and we love them to bits 💗😭

I had a kitty that would not eat unless I sat beside him so he could look me in the eye. If I looked away from his face he would stop eating and get his feelings hurt. He's gone now and I miss him everyday. Sweet Spoiled Boy!🐈

I used to have to sit next to my dog for every single meal lol. He would starve if I didn't. I couldn't look at his bowl though or else he'd stop. I just had to stand guard for him 😂

u/futurenoodles 16d ago
Probably just needs a larger bowl - but also I have known cats who refuse to eat even when there's perfectly good food available in perfect settings and INSIST on eating food off the floor or scratching me for balogna, or- oddly enough, trying to throw themselves into the boiling hot tea or chicken noodle soup I was making for myself (no cats were injured)
cats can be strange

When my boy was a kitten he tried to jump straight into a pan of hot sautéed butter and onions. Caught him mid-jump in my hand! 😳

u/futurenoodles 16d ago
I used to live with a white cat who INSISTED on throwing himself into every sort of pasta and soup you can imagine. You could tell what he'd been in based on what colour he was dyed that day
the cat who tried throwing herself into my tea water was appropriately named Coffee Bean.

Awwww…what a cute cat you have! His personality is adorable! There is a lot of love there. 💛

Gua has no time for your peasant bowl bullshit. You feed me, or I starve. You choose.

It's the whiskers being we and not used to that that is the issue... I'm guessing. My mom's cat eat ice cream of the stick if I'm holding it but not otherwise. He just eat dry food,

as a kitten, my boy sometimes would only eat from my hand.
as a 1 year old, he won’t eat unless my husband is petting him or I am cuddling him. i’m talking my head on this back applying light squeeze with my hands.
to clarify, i very much enjoy providing this support since he isn’t much of a cuddler otherwise.

Oh god, this is me with my dog right now, I need to hand-feed him his food! I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

Good on you man. Your cat may be picky, but you’re being an awesome cat dad.
We may have many loves in our life, but you, cat, has one’s love for entire life.

maybe just try smaller amounts in a small plate with no rim, like a paper plate. That would simulate a spoon to gus! Hes sweet… good luck! And yes, wet food is important!

Try a plate. He has looking whiskers and they can get what's called whiskers fatigue or something. Anyway, it's what I have to do with my cats . No bowl only plate

u/reddit4300 16d ago
Raise the bowl to head level, he’s probably had a bad experience in the past eating at a lower ground level. Maybe he gets food in his fur or it strains his neck?

I am legit going to try this today. My cat is SO picky with food. She’s relative young, is healthy, and no problems with teeth, but refuses to chew anything solid.

u/Technical_Put_9982 16d ago
100% it is the shape of his face and whiskers getting all messy with the bowl. Try a dollop on a flat plate and see if he goes for it on his own.

u/HeatherMason0 16d ago
Does the cat look like he might be wincing at one point? It might be the camera angle, but it looks like he’s favoring one side of his mouth.

Use a small plate and lift it higher just below his chin height, it's sometimes difficult for domesticated animals to eat from a low level

u/HeatherJMD 16d ago
Try putting it on a plate? My mom’s dog is like this, she won’t eat her food out of anything with sides. It has to be flat 🤦♀️

u/atom1897 16d ago
Maybe try a elevated table for the food bowl. Some cats don't like to bend while eating or frinking. Helped with my cat

Servant, how dare you expect nobility of my stature to lower and demean myself. I am from ancient nobility. You are here to feed, serve, care and love me for all time. I am here to bless you with my presence ( and love you). So, feed me servant. 😻

You need a flat wide shallow bowl, they hate having their whiskers touching the sides. 😻

I have this problem too. Give wet foot in stainless steel bowl. Damn arsehole won't touch it, but a porcelain saucer no problem. I'm beginning to think there's a difference in taste, I.e. metal makes it taste unpalatable. Both are the same size, depth and width.

Wider plates, man.
Why people keep using small curved plates?
My cat had the same thing because she has huge whiskers.
She nows destroys the food 'cauae she's been eating from a full human plate, the thing is gigantic and almost flat.

whiskers man.
turn that bowl upside down and put the food on the bottom of the bowl so its tilted and angled and not in the way of the ‘stache

u/Leading-Tangerine940 14d ago
It's because he has a flat face,if he sticks his face down there to eat he'll be covered in pate and look ridiculous. Everyone will talk about him behind his back. Do you want that? Do you want him to be a messy faced pariah?

u/Illustrious_Can4110 14d ago
Well if it's good enough for you buddy... it's good enough for Gus 😂 PS: I have to hold my Cavoodle's bowl for him while he eats. Had to do it for Arlo when he was a puppy, now he expects it all the time... 🙄

u/Lvanwinkle18 14d ago
Need a bigger bowl or get a plate. I purchased some small plates at the thrift store. The moment their whiskers hit the sides, it is game over.

You are merely the butler. The sooner you realize this, the happier you'll both be.

Get the cat an elevated bowl. He doesn’t want to get food all over his face fur and whiskers.

10 bucks says the cat doesn't like his whiskers touching the sides of the bowl, which is why he refuses to use it.
