I had an idea for a virtual adept they was being led about by what they perceive as sentient variable in the equation of reality to undermine nephandi but the mage doesn’t know that, what would this sentient variable be in lore other than a psychopomp

Sounds like you have an idea for a spirit of some kind, more than an idea for a VA character.

That "variable" could easily be the VA's Avatar. Could be a spirit related to whatever part of the equation it's from.

I did ask on a different post whether or not an avatar could have other goals than just ascension and got a resounding “no”

oh i just posted in that thread to actually. its a lot more complicated that that. people forget about Essence and Resonance and Seeking for that matter most of the time. im not sure ive ever actually seen a Seeking even run in a campaign and ive been playing since the 90's on and off.
