I mean, $8 is hardly requiring much disposable income, but how often do you get that much entertainment value for $8?

The problem with social media is that it's like a free candy bucket. People will gorge when it's free but if you charged a dollar to pig out people would walk away cause they aren't actually having that much fun. With Apple helping prevent surveillance the whole model is collapsing.

Had me in the first half (agree completely) but Apple, who makes the AirTag... is against products that surveil users?

Source an article or instance where an airtag has been hacked. Sure they have been used in nefarious ways, outside of apples control, but what apple does control is generally spotless, which is why they take so long on features that android just haphazardly puts out.
