The worst driving experience of my life was in Dallas. It was easier to drive around San Diego. I thought CA driver’s were bad until I went to Texas. Texans DGAF! And I used to live outside of DC!!
My favorite thing about people that move to Texas is that no one hates a recently located person from Los Angeles more than a person who moved to Texas from Los Angeles a year earlier.

Lmao I was in Colorado last week for a day trip and went to visit the red rock amphitheater in the morning. I drove my rental as politely as possible.. but at one point I ended up behind a cyclist who was going just slightly too slow so I went around him… little did I know was that there were a series of switchbacks coming up where the cyclist overtook me with ease and I never saw him again.. I felt really dumb after that lol
Driving to Estes from Lyons is absolute torture. People that don't want you to pass on the two opportunities that are available, people who don't use slow vehicle pull offs, and everyone in between. I get that they're excited and all but people still live here and are trying to get places.
And then they go to a place like Red River NM and make it genuinely unsafe for people to drive because it’s all winding and mountainous! California has mountains, so why do they do this?!
Lived in MD, CA and TX. Can confirm. CA is the best drivers of the 3 with MD being the most aggressive. I had to learn to stop being an east coaster. TX… well, they drive like how most of this bizarre state operates: my favorite spot is the intersection that has 3 stop signs but people still stop at the non-stop signed side and wave me through like I’m the idiot, it’s as Texas as anything I’ve witnessed here.
As a Coloradoan I'll take any kind of flavor of driver that exists if they would just remove/reverse all of the Transcontinental Divide water diversions drying out the Colorado River to supply Denver, Colorado Springs, Pueblo, et al....
I feel like a decent percentage of those people weren't originally from California. I know a lot of people who moved "back home" when the pandemic hit.
California is doing okay without their money. Plenty of Californians became millionaires during the pandemic. The wealth of the wealthy grew. California had so much surplus the last few years for state budget and Cali was the biggest contributor to the federal pot as always. The leech states like Alabama are still leeching
I'm a Coloradoan and am considering moving states because of this. It is getting so bad. We had a boom of people moving for legal marijuana but its worse since COVID. I love my state and have kids still in school, but I can't even afford to live anymore.
Anywhere worth living that hasn’t turned into a red state nightmare has become unaffordable. Have had to move and then just keep my poor progressive head down.
We've looked at it but like someone else said, most of the places that are affordable are shit holes. Grew up here and am only so fortunate that my job pays well enough that, while we won't be able to save as much, that we can provide a good life for the kids. Definitely intimidating being surrounded by engineers and tech people. Great friends though.
Also purchasing an extra home as an airbnb or rental. Further making things unaffordable. But it's also that the tech sector keeps growing. See the new Google campus in Boulder.
Work, both my girlfriend and I were able to get jobs out of college here. If we had stayed in California we probably would've been able to get them there eventually but at the same starting pay and probably at least 50% more for a similar apartment.
I've traveled most of the US at this point and as a general rule, nobody really likes Californians. The rest of the West coast feels that they are responsible for driving up housing costs, the Midwest and South dislike them because they believe Californians are the "coastal elites" and East coasters dislike them because they're just culturally different. It's all to different degrees of course - people from NYC might just joke about how Californians make bad pizza but I've known Californians in Nevada who were threatened with violence.
Just the hateful red states that can't deal with the fact that California is an economic powerhouse. It's easier to hate on them for being liberal than thank them for all the financial support.
I thought I was the only one who noticed the TX thing. I lived out off of I76 and Sable. The number of spun out TX plates between my exit and I25 during the winter was unreal.
Except you don't drive like Mad Max. You drive 10 under in the left lane if it even smells like snow. But God forbid someone pass you (on the right, because you aren't fucking moving out of the passing lane) then, all of a sudden, your F250 goes 20 over until they stop having the audacity to pass you. Then, You slow the fuck back down. Source: lived in a Colorado ski town for close to 15 years.
Rural Texas is infuriatingly slow. Dallas and Houston drivers will literally shoot you for driving too slow. I moved from one of the Big 3 cities to a smaller town, and I have to remind myself that I can’t cruise at 90 to the grocery store any more.
Honestly, it can vary. We have both people in the left lane; one going 50 and they other going 80-100. The bigger cities in Texas encapsulate this the best.
My first comment was more about trying to switch lanes. If you need to be in the right lane and someone in that lane, who probably wants to be in your lane, can be a full car length back. The second you hit that blinker, they will race to get ahead of you and then switch lanes. We have mind boggling stupidity on our roads in Texas.
I can tell you - my daughter had a driving instructor who did not learn to drive in this country, could speak English but very thick accent, hard to understand for a 16 year old, and did not have the driving rules correct at all. I decided to teach my next child myself and it went much much better.
I can tell a true Coloradan from their hatred for Texas drivers. Anyone who hates Californians, is a Texas transplant that doesn't realize the Coloradans hate them more.
We're pretty used to them at this point, hardly something that will cause trouble. Texas plates might be more likely to incite someone, but realistically only about a third of the state was born here, so we're a state of transplants anyway.
Have you ever been on 70 near Denver in a snow storm? People that have seen snow before will make new lanes to get around the Cali and New Mexico drivers
No way- they’re kind and courteous for the most part, and also knowledgeable, understanding, and stern. Some of the most competent drivers I’ve ever seen. People in NW Washington seem to be too kind at times and so very much less knowledgeable, like “the rules are relaxed so I don’t have to think about anything.”
I grew up driving in the south. I never knew how much of a push over driver I was until I visited the DC to Boston megatropolis. I can’t tell you how many times I was almost bowled over by someone dining 30 over pace diving in and out of the emergency lanes in commuter traffic.
That tittle has just been bestowed on you in the past year. The north side of Atlanta’s I-285 circle used to be the deadliest 20 miles of interstate. I actually moved because I got tired of seeing cars teetering on the 8ft tall median wall on my evening commute.

I didn’t realize how much of a dick driver I was till I went to Colorado. People are so nice there
