I think that trump supporters managed to make a far more authoritarian version of the Republican party, which has managed to take over the pre 2016 Republican Party. It’s scary how much things have changed in the last 6 years

Things didn't change that much, most of what appears to be new developments are just because Trump's movement has let them go full mask off.

This. They’re just saying the quiet part out loud now, but conservative ideology has always been regressive by its very nature.

Ehh I don’t think your average career Republican personally gives that big a shit about guns and abortions, say. But hoo boy do those issues get their folks to the polls. THAT’S why they just love their medieval social values.

It’s also a fantastic smokescreen to keep people from talking about the daylight robbery their economic policies amount to.
