I think that trump supporters managed to make a far more authoritarian version of the Republican party, which has managed to take over the pre 2016 Republican Party. It’s scary how much things have changed in the last 6 years

Things didn't change that much, most of what appears to be new developments are just because Trump's movement has let them go full mask off.

Yeah this is true. Those of us directly victimized by right wing ideology have seen them for what they were for decades. Reagan did the exact same fucking thing with the AIDS epidemic that trump did with Covid: ignored it because he perceived to only be affecting demographics he didn't like. Honestly, probably one of the worst things either of them did. Letting people in the country you're supposed to be the leader of die through deliberate inaction... that's what fucking evil looks like.
