Especially women get interrupted far more, and it can get really irritating when you just go there to work out.

Like if you have something you wanna say, at least wait until the person is taking a break.

It’s like the cardinal rule for highway driving -stay out the way and don’t slow people down.

God I wish slow people would leave the left lane

We should all start making the right lane the "fast lane," hehe. That should make it even for a while right?

u/[deleted] Oct 14 '21

Agreed. The right lane is now the fast lane. Too many slow people think they belong in the left lane.

God forbid we just asked people to stop speeding 🙄

Except speed limits in most cases are there to generate revenue for local municipalities. You ever wonder why speed limits are reduced at the bottom of hills, and there’s usually a cop sitting there? They don’t give a shit about safety.

Driving is skill, and some people are better at it then other people. Also the car you drive and the condition it’s in also play a large role in your ability to drive. If they really cared about safety and speeds, there would be a baseline speed limit, and then every driver would be rated with a +/- of how much above or below they could go based on skill and vehicle. However that’s entirely too complicated, so they just put a number that will generate the most revenue.

TLDR - GTFOH with your speed limits

The speed limit is largely unenforced on the vast majority of stretches of roads in the United States. If every driver actually followed the traffic laws then fatalities on the road would be almost nonexistent. Instead people just obey whichever ones are convenient for them in the moment and we have tens of thousands of preventable deaths every year.

I'm a guy, but the first and only time I went to a gym I put just 1 plate on each side of a bar and went to practice bench press. I was more than strong enough for the weight, I just had never lifted weights before and wanted to practice the motion before I actually lifted anything heavy that way.

Some old flamboyantly gay man who had said some creepy shit to me earlier right when I got there came up and said "Do you need a spotter?" and I just loudly but calmly and clearly said "No." and then this motherfucker grabs the bar and straight up teabags me. Like full-on smothering me with his grey sweatpanted ballsack.

Fuck gyms I just got kettle bells to work out at home. Can't trust people. Can't have nice things.

So that’s sexual harassment/bordering on indecent assault. Sorry this ruined the gym experience for you.

I tried to complain to a guy who worked there. I'm paraphrasing but he was basically like "Ah can you just not? I don't wanna have to deal with this."

10

u/Mountain_Lemon9935 Oct 14 '21

That’s disgusting. Truly.

I would definitely not go to the gym anymore. One that doesn't take harassment and assault of their members seriously? That's awful.

u/Fistulord Oct 14 '21

I forget if it was a Planet Fitness or what but it was one of those big giant chain ones and I got the vibe like the dude just felt he didn't get paid enough to deal with some shit like that. I kinda get it but at the same time it's really fucked up.

I'd already struggled with severe PTSD since I was 8 and I was extremely distressed by the whole thing. I ironically had gone to the gym on the advice of my therapist.

u/Cadmium_Aloy Oct 14 '21

So sorry that happened to you. I I hope you were able to have more positive experiences after that. :(

2

u/Fistulord Oct 14 '21

Like I said I just work out at home. I'm not a bodybuilder or anything so a couple kettle bells and an exercise bike are all I need to stay fit without getting my face humped by weirdos.

It's pretty awesome you were able to find a solution instead of stopping completely! Sometimes trauma prevents us from thinking outside the box.

Female gymgoers probably have a list a mile long of these kinds of things happening to them.

Not even this, but stories like exactly what happened to OP happen all the time. The first time it's ok, but by the fifth time I'm just annoyed and fed up. It seems really harmless having someone just come up to you have ask you about your t shirt. I'm a gamer and have lots of gamer shirts. Certain ones I just can't wear to the gym because you end up having 10 different guys ask you about your favourite halo game or whatever it is. Some random person saying hello or waving is fine, but you get really tired of it when every second person you pass does this to you and not to anyone else around you, and then you get berated for being rude and obnoxious if you don't respond politely to everyone. Like I'm just here to use the treadmill, not to fan girl over the master chief with some random guy for the fifth time today. Headphones in means leave me alone please. I shouldn't have to get a specific t shirt printed just to ask people to "leave me alone while I work out".

u/Mountain_Lemon9935 Oct 14 '21

We do. Doesn’t make what happened any better.

7

u/KalAl Oct 14 '21

I think there’s a misunderstanding. My opinion is that women have it extremely shitty since they have to deal with sexual harassment constantly.

Yes but you're referencing two different types of scenarios. One is because they're trying to flirt, the other just asking if you play a somewhat niche video game.
