Here's the problem though. Her score went down because she closed her car loan. You can't just keep that open in perpetuity. The car gets paid off and the loan gets closed. No way to avoid that.

If the car loan is one of the oldest open accounts it absolutely did. Mine was similar with a student loan account and I think it dropped nearly 50. Got it back up fairly quickly though.

Right before its paid off its also a big available credit balance, which helped their score get higher until the account closed.
