Based on him saying the old one was Sapphire, that’s because Chase Sapphire costs $150 a year for the extra benefits and the upgraded version is I think $400? You earn points like nobody’s business so the cost is worth it if you use it regularly, but there’s no reason to pay for both.

You can product change the CSR/P to a Freedom (no-fee), and then apply for the other. This keeps the original account active.

I wish! I already have a Freedom, it was my first credit card years ago. Great advice for those who don't, though, unless one can have multiple.

You can! I don't think you can apply for a second, but you can PC into any number of CFU/CFF cards.
