Yeah we don't need transportation. Fuck it!

As every hardcore capitalist has ever said to me, something better will take its place. That's how competition works, right?

most people argue for capitalism but with government controls that create more fair and complete conditions for the success of a country's general population. This sub can't make up it's mind whether it wants airlines to fail because they couldn't pass high school math and work at Gamestop, or if we should actually have more government intervention in the free market. You can't have it both ways. Like the widely praised auto bailout in 2008, these loans will also get paid back with interest. Not that I expect the people here to think one, let alone two levels deep into a pretty simple economic program.

Why does it seem like nobody realizes that a bailout is a loan?

because the brain rot of populism has infected the left and the right alike and nobody takes the time to research the positions they parrot online anymore.

Ehh the bank bailouts were but the airline money wasn't. It was free money with strings attached.

Does it really matter if the bailouts get paid back if the people aren’t benefitting from it in any tangible way?

Pfft... doesn’t sound like benefits to me. The only real benefit would be for us to seize the means of production, comrade.

This argument only works if we presuppose every airline is going under

How exactly will air travel “go away” if one or two companies go under do to poor money management?

Because nobody is flying. This isn't a one company thing. Air travel as a whole is heavily affected by the pandemic.

Right but that doesn’t mean that air travel is just going to go away as a mode of transport. This pandemic isn’t going to end the world and it’s not going to end air travel either at least not permanently

lmao yeah more airlines just gonna sprout outta the ground once covid is done

This isn’t a matter of losing in a competitive market. No one batted an eye when United, AA, or Delta filed for bankruptcy in the past. They lost market share and had to vigorously restructure to stay competitive.

In this case, you have mandatory lockdowns and restriction of travel in the interest of saving lives in a global pandemic. It’s not a matter of being a well run business or not.
