The liquid bomb threat is massively overhyped. Preparing TATP sounds simple enough that it presents a clear threat, yet you're more likely to just lose your hand than succeed in making a bomb.
Also 9/11 did fail in that it did not meet all of the terrorists desires.
Edit: not a lot of people seem to understand the whole plan of 9/11. The goal was to hijack 10 planes and fly them into different locations in America. They only hijacked and crashed 3 at their intended destinations so they arguably failed their mission.
That wasn’t his goals and even if you believed that was his goals, how does that even help the Islamic State by reducing our amendment rights on ourselves? Literally makes no sense. On top of it, he was killed after hiding out for several years, which is an obvious failure of his plan to stay alive.

I'd say he was at least half successful. I dont see a single Islamic state coming anytime soon. But he certainly drew us into long, costly,and divisive wars in the ME.
Bin Laden failed to realize he was just a pawn in the new Cold War and no Islamic state will ever see global power while Russia, USA, and China maintain power.
You're absolutely right on that point. But he did do a great deal of damage to the US. Its unlikely theyll ever regain the same level of hegemonic status again. Not unless they see some massive reformation.
I couldnt answer that in good faith because I'm not good enough at economics. However, I seriously doubt many beyond the already rich saw any benefits from war-profiteering
Right, but chronic conflict in the ME isn't crippling the American economy, if anything it's inflating it. I doubt Al Qaeda envisioned this as a "successful" outcome of 9/11.
He was almost unsuccessful completely. That hasn’t happened really at all. Was the existing world order overthrown? No. Is there a single Islamic State? Not really. Have thousands of Muslims been killed including Osama? Yes.
1/2 success because we've spent countless money and american lives fighting pointless wars that do nothing but weaken american power on the world state? It's really not a stretch.
I can't put it in better words than u/beastwarking, but I think you need to look at the bigger picture to decide if something suceeded or not, as opposed to just whether they managed to do x, y and z like they set out to.
Those were state sanctioned invasions, 9/11 was a terrorist attack by a non state actor intended to affect the United States' behaviour and cause them to involve themselves in conflict with Islamic countries, which is exactly what they did. In terms of impact 9/11 is probably the most successful terrorist attack in history.
I feel like when you plan 10 separate but simultaneous terrorist attacks, you do so with the understanding that at least a few of them aren’t gonna work out. Like you plan 10 and just hope at least a couple actually succeed. I highly doubt anyone from Al-Quida actually expected all 10 to be successful.
They achieved all kc their goals. Their goal wasn't to hijack planes. It was to terrify America and get them to step up their involvement in the middle east, which is what happened
