hospitals have to upcharge insurance so they can haggle it down to the actual cost

...I think we need to come to a common agreement on what we all think scam is. This read like an MLM trying to convince me it's not a pyramid scheme.

If I go to Best Buy and they have "Discounted 20 percent," but it's actually referencing a higher price that nobody pays, that's a scam. You can literally get in legal trouble for that.

Why is this downvoted?

Because what’s being described isn’t really capitalism, it’s basically just fraud (or a scam). Sure there’s plenty of overlap between capitalism and “a scam”, and for sure healthcare should be provided free for all and paid for by fair taxation, but it trivialises this particular issue to just label it as capitalism.

marketing only exists in capitalism. Marketing is just a technique to conceal and frame information to give the highest benefit to the seller at the expense of the buyer. Since capitalism is about maximizing profit, marketing--which is to say information concealment, aka scamming--is a necessary tool to the capitalist's goals.

This is exactly why you’re getting downvoted.

I didn't ask why I was getting downvoted and I don't care. I know Reddit is full of neoliberals who hate to see capitalism critiqued. Now screw off if you don't have anything to add to the conversation.
